Yes, the best, but… Once, almost fourty years ago, I got shocked, dumbfounded, angry looks at a Baltimore costume shop when I asked to get a priest outfit as a costume for a Halloween party. Needles to say, they refused to cooperate. O tempora, o mores!

I’m Catholic. I think the costume is funny. And that it makes a good point. It’s the fault of priests to begin with that this image event exists. Who made a costume like this possible? Not me! It’s priests themselves, whose abuse of minors has colored not only their field but the entire religion.

I also think female teachers have tained their profession by bonking 12-year-olds, and would like to see a costume reflecting that!

Female teachers bonking twelve-year-olds are rarer than their male counterparts, according to all the statistics I’ve seen. Doesn’t mean they should get away with it, though.

But the abuse done by the catholic priest has a lot of elements that make it particularly bad:
1. catholic priests abused true children (prepubescent). There is a huge difference between a 14 and an 8 year old.
2. cathlic priets vow to remain cast
3. catholic priests choose boys, and homosexuality because it´s a deviant behaviour requires more maturity than heterosexual behaviour. I also took the work to read the link provided by Alias Clio and I think justice would have been better served if the male teacher had married the teen girl instead of sending the man 30 years to prison and the girl ending up doing minimum wage labour.

I agree that there’s a difference between abusing children and pubescent youngsters, but perhaps not a “huge” one, especially where the youngsters are tricked into sex with the use of drugs, alcohol, and other forms of covert manipulation.

In any case, many – indeed I think most – of the abuse cases in the recently revealed scandals in the US Catholic Church did NOT involve the abuse of pre-pubescent children, but of boys in the 12-18 age range. This discovery stirred up much controversy in the US and it ended up in the coining of a neologism for people who abuse youngsters in this age group – “ephebeophile”. (I’m not certain of the spelling.)

Meanwhile, I would agree that the priests’ crimes were morally worse for them (not necessarily for the children/young people who have been assaulted) than for public school teachers because priests occupy a special position of trust.

The crime is also much worse because it involves homosexual acts. Homosexual acts require a lot more maturity. For teens wanting to have sex with young attractive adult members of the opposite sex is normal. However, the fact that these acts were homosexual makes one presume abuse. When I was 15, I was attracted to my 24 year old female German teacher, but never to a male.

One reason why the abuse of boys in early adolescence, by men or women, is so heinous is that boys of that age are so (how shall I put this?) sexually “trigger-happy” that they may respond sexually to any kind of advances against their own will and desires, and end up deeply confused about their sexual orientation as a result. So I think I would agree with your suggestion that this form of sexual contact requires greater age and maturity in the younger partner.

I don’t agree, however, that male or female adults in a position of trust have a right to make advances to their young pupils even when the latter are past the age of puberty – let’s say in the 14-18 age range. Teachers are “in loco parentis” and ought to respect the fact. There are also issues of administrative fairness involved in such situations even where all the participants are adults, which means that if a student and teacher wish to pursue a sexual relationship they ought to wait until they are no longer in a student-teacher relationship.

First of all, the age range you mention should be 14-17, at 18 you are an adult, period. It’s true that school teachers ar
-+e in fact “in loco parentis”, but what about a private tutor for example? Who clearly is no loco parentis? I’m not a fan of teacher student relationships, however if the relationship is consentual and heterosexual, the other partner at least 14 years old, absent of abuse, it should only be cause for expulsion of the teacher, not encarceration, specially if the teacher is young. Abuse for example would be offering better grades or threatening punishments for sex.

Up here in our homeland, teachers are considered to be in a “position of trust or authority” like parents and medical professionals. They can’t have sex with someone under 18, whereas the general age of consent is 14.

Ephebophilia is a cop-out term used by panicked gay activists like Andrew Sullivan to gloss over the fact that adult men who sexually abuse pubescent boys are gay men with a taste for chicken, (remember when they were called “chicken hawks and it had nothing to do with the Iraq war?) just as an adult man who abuses pubescent girls is straight. Neither are pedophiles. Sullivan and his ilk know perfectly well that lusting for teenagers is part of male sexuality, and the abuse scandal is just proof of the fact that Catholic priests have been disproportionately gay for several decades now.

Yes, PatrickH, I’m aware of Canadian law regarding teachers and their relations with minors. I had wanted to emphasize the point that even when the younger partner is not a minor, there are sound reasons for discouraging such relationships between teachers and their pupils. As you say, medical professionals are not allowed to make advances to their patients even when the latter are well beyond legal age. I believe psychiatrists have a lifetime ban on doing so: in other words, even if they excuse themselves from treating a patient they are not then free to initiate a sexual relationship with him or her.

I left out the gay activists’ angle because it’s a whole new area of controversy to open up in this already controversial thread. It was certainly clear to me at the time the scandals broke that a man seeking sex with a 14-year-old boy was not likely to be a pedophile, but simply a gay man who liked his partners young, as many straight men do.

As for Catholic priests being disproportionately gay: yes, that appears to be true, in relation to the number of gay men in society as a whole, but I think the majority of priests are still heterosexual, if I’m remembering the investigations at the time of the scandal correctly.

These three are deejays from a popular radio station in Los Angeles. The guy in the priest costume is named Frank, the dominatrix is Heidi, and the one in the Elton John costume is Frosty.

Frank is an athiest and this photo was taken years ago when the scandals first came out. I understand Marie’s contempt for the costume, but like all costumes, they are meant to be tongue in cheek. We cannot pretend this didn’t happen and I don’t see it any different than seeing a comedian joke about it.

This helps us cope with the harsh reality that this indeed has happened and will continue to happen. It’s not about the children, it’s about the Catholic system, and the priests.

Regarding the Priest Costume: It was put together by a Radio Show Host Frank out of California. It’s him in the picture. This was his original concept, which he brought to fruition. Oh yea, and by far the FUNNIEST costume I’ve seen.

Marie I think you’re right, the fact that nobody ever discuss about the victims shows that there’s no message in it or whatever, that the interest is elsewhere, and I think I have a clue where the interest is in bashing priests : People fear that they are missing the point in life if they compare to a religious person, so the whole pedophilia thing, showing that the religious guys have problems, justifies their cluelessness.

Everything has reasons, and the finger pointing trend on priests hasn’t got ethical reasons.

I’m not a priest, I just know that people can get less clueless about life. That’s why I’m pointing this out.

There have been homosexual acts documented between domestic dogs and cats too.

Male primates have actually been known to pass up sex with a female to engage in sex acts with another male.

Saying that this behavior is against nature just means that you’re not paying attention to the research.

Yes, religious figures who abuse children are wrong. One of the reasons I don’t agree with organized religion, since it gives humans too much power over each other.

But in and of itself, homosexuality is a facet of human sexuality. It’s been around since the dawn of documented history, people, it’s not going away any time soon.

This pic is from Haloween 2002 or 2003, and they are talk radio hosts from Los Angeles. Don’t know if they are still on the air, or not, as I don’t live there any longer. From the “Frosty, Heidi and Frank show.”

Frank is the priest, and well, you can tell Heidi is the Dominatrix, and Frosty is the WTF is that costume.

I wanted to make this costume last year.. but I was too lazy. I finally took the time to make the costume today… It’s great. Cheaper than most costumes too! The most expensive part was the clerical collor due to the fact I just bought the priest shirt at a halloween store. The rest was maybe 5 bucks at Value Village!

I can’t wait to wear it.. It’s hilarious and completely tasteless. It’s even worse in person!

Frank Kramer is just about the coolest guy in Los Angeles, and the self described “General” of what has been come to be known as “Frank’s Army”.
Frank’s Army is not really an army at all, but a group (ok, a whole LOT of people), that imbibe in the “Cannibus”.
Yep…a bunch of dope smokers….but it’s all in good fun and all for the laughs.

Hey all, KINDOF pissed off that homosexual relations are being treated as different from heterosexual. The only reason they’re different in any way is the fact that if you decide to do homosexual acts, you need to be prepared for all the fucking persecution you get from the majority of the world (catholics included). There’s no difference between a man or a woman taking advantage of a younger-pubescent boy!

The only way it’s more ironic than a woman taking advantage of him is because catholic priests VEHEMENTLY preach against homosexual partners. Rather, catholicism allows practicing pedophiles to be their moral guidance.
