Sarah Palin, The Mirror

September 12, 2008 by CH

This made me laugh:

Yes, Sarah Palin didn’t know what [the Bush Doctrine] is. But neither does Charlie Gibson. And at least she didn’t pretend to know — while he looked down his nose and over his glasses with weary disdain, sighing and “sounding like an impatient teacher,” as the Times noted. In doing so, he captured perfectly the establishment snobbery and intellectual condescension that has characterized the chattering classes’ reaction to the mother of five who presumes to play on their stage.

Memo to Charlie Gibson: Never open your mouth unless you know the shot.

I no longer care about Sarah Palin’s qualifications for the job of VP. I’m just enjoying the overreaching hate she elicits. Not that I would know anything about that…

When I first heard about the pick, I thought that it was a bit gimmicky, that there were surely a lot of better choices. But assholes like Charlie Gibson (who by the way I had never heard of before this; did Dan Rather die or something?) have turned me around completely. All Catholics should now vote for Sarah Palin.

Trying to ask a gotcha question is bad journalism.

When the “Bush Doctrine” question came up, I began thinking how the diplomatic history of the present time will come down with regard to the modifications to the state system set up by the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. After all, the recognition of Kosovo, and the Russian’s attempt to force independence for Abkhazia and South Ossetia hearken back to the difficulties the Swedes, French & HRE folks had in settling the question of Dutch independence and fitting it into the nation-state model they were setting up which has lasted, lo these many centuries. People often forget that the 80 years war and the 30 years war ended at the same time.
Oh, I could have snowed Charley Gibsen like a blizzard in the upper Missouri valley. And, I would make a lousy vice president.

    Roissy –

This has little to do with your current post, but your take on Palin’s husband is totally WRONG.

He is anything but an apha.

    Here’s the evidence:

    1) Just because he ice fishes, skins moose, works an oil rig, races snowmobiles, or whatever the hell else he does, does NOT make him an alpha. That is the biggest crock and fallacy I’ve ever heard of. As you yourself have noted, the ONLY thing that marks a man as an alpha is how he handles his relationships with women.

    2) Look at his perfectly-trimmed little goatee and haircut. WAY too prim and precise for the kind of alpha you think he is.

    3) Sarah Palin actually cheated on him, in a widely-publicized affair with his former business partner, which he then “swept under the rug” (according to the National Enquirer, which has some credibility in that they were the only paper reporting on John Edwards’ affair for a long time).

    4) For god’s sakes, Sarah Palin is a hyper-ambitious wheeler dealer and spotlight-grabbing politician, who has 5 kids while spending all her time walking the halls of the Juneau state house texting furiously on two BlackBerrys at once. NO true alpha would EVER tolerate a wife like that.

    5) Who minds the kids, anyway? And who do they intend will mind the kids if/when (god forbid) Palin is VP? Obviously that job would go to Todd Palin. Decidedly, definitively un-alpha.

    6) As a heterosexual male, I have to note how stereotypically good-looking Todd Palin is. Exactly the kind of airhead male arm-candy that many intensely-ambitious alpha females (like the typical DC lawyer bitch Roissy always lampoons) favor. The Palins were high school sweethearts who eloped, but that doesn’t make him any less a “trophy husband” for an ultra-ambitious, self-absorbed career woman. Sarah Palin married a good-looking, subservient, easily-dominated airhead with less education than she has, which is precisely the kind of man who induces wet-dreams in this breed of alpha female.

    T —

The allegations of an affair are laughable. The Enquirer had evidence wrt Edwards: Hunter’s hiring, her videos disappearing, a campaign staffer taking “credit” for the fatherhood while his wife and family stand behind him, both the aide & family and Hunter in campaign backer mansions, rent free, with “walking around money” and finally, catching Edwards at the hotel with Hunter.

That’s … evidence. I could claim I’m dating Jessica Biel, but where’s my evidence? The Enquirer has produced no evidence merely allegations, and concealing an affair in a small town is very difficult. Conducting one with that many children even tougher, along with spotlight that comes with public office. Everyone in Edwards campaign knew of the affair.

You are right in that Palin is not very “Alpha” — he took off a year from work to help Sarah in the transition to Governor, and quit also his 17-year job to avoid conflict of interest. He took weeks off to take care of Trig. But her Parents (still young enough) and sisters, brother have also helped care for the kids.

However, he is a champion snowmachine racer. His last race he came in only 4th, as he broke his arm and was slowed by that for the last … 400 miles!

I suspect Alpha/Beta stuff that works in a wealthy, Eastern environment like DC or NYC, or LA for that matter, does not in Alaska, where life is physically tough, money is good but expenses high, and there is a 7-1 male-female sex ratio, along with a “small town” atmosphere with zilch anonymity.

That Palin eloped with the former Sarah Heath after HS, given that ratio, says a lot. As does her relatively late entry into politics, and working all sorts of jobs, while for years her Husband was the main money earner.

It’s Alaska. Different than the lower 48.

    Sister, you’re changing!

And gack, OT, but man oh man the Slav. That fucking Slav. I naively try to converse with her, and what do I get?

Ah, Sister. Why is it I can have heated discussions with you and feel wonderful at the end? Remember you calling me “you fucking bastard” with no irony at all, and me laughing and loving my wild wooly Wolf all the more?

And yet the Slav puts in a few nasty indirect underhanded passive-aggressive digs, and my mood goes sour in an instant.

Why did I even give that diseased personality the opening? What’s the matter with me?

As I’ve said before, Todd Palin is not an Alpha in the clawing-to-the-top-of-the-corporate-hirearchy sense. He is an Alpha in a winning-barroom-brawls physical sense.

whiskey, points taken. But her entry into politics wasn’t late. She won a seat on the Wasilla City Council at 28 years old — maybe even 27.

That’s actually an amazingly early entry into politics for a mother, which suggests this woman has an overweening, unstoppable ambition and self-regard.

I’d say she makes Hillary look like a Stepford Wife by comparison.

Also, as someone on some blog somewhere pointed out, her jawline makes Ivan Drago look like Michael Moore.

Peter – if a man cannot be, or does not want to be, at the top of his own domestic hierarchy, then he is by definition not an alpha, no matter how many barroom brawls he can win.

Personally, I love seeing an alpha-alpha relationship and I’m tired of seeing supposedly “strong” women like Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Edwards standing by their philandering husbands.

Sarah Palin is the liberal establishment worst nightmare: A strong, feminine, conservative woman.

Roissy: “I no longer care about Sarah Palin’s qualifications for the job of VP. I’m just enjoying the overreaching hate she elicits.”

It’s always fun watching Dems blow a gasket, isn’t it?

Hey, my usual line about this kind of thing: “Dems think it’s all about winning debates. Republicans know it’s about winning elections.”

    Republicans suck too, btw.

Hey, earth to voters: politicians suck, as does the political class. They’re people who are interested in power above all things, by definition. Why would anybody trust such creatures, let alone put a little faith in one of them? One of the world’s most amazing spectacles is civilians cheering on any politician. Every election it happens: people actually expending hope that one of these rascals or bastards will turn out well. How idiotic can civilians be?

Plus these days the political class surrounds itself with so many handlers and presents itself with so much spin that it’s next to impossible to get a glimpse of what’s really going on in there. And when you do, what you discover is “These people covet power above all things.” Big surprise.

There may be a few exceptions here and there, a few people who semi-stand for a few coherent things. But — absent any actual personal experience of these people — how would you know for sure, let alone be able to tell?

Michael, it’s not just dems. I remember the net 8 years ago when lots of conservative Americans were enthusiastically and obviously deluded about George Bush, about restoring America’s dignified image after Clinton immorality and all that. I have a feeling that someone’s going to be a surprisingly similar disappointment if he wins…

    list of the Obama questions:

How does it feel to break a glass ceiling?
How does it feel to “win”?
How does your family feel about your “winning” breaking a glass ceiling?
    Who will be your VP?
Should you choose Hillary Clinton as VP?
    Will you accept public finance?
What issues is your campaign about?
    Will you visit Iraq?
Will you debate McCain at a town hall?
What did you think of your competitor’s [Clinton] speech?

    And the Palin questions:

Do you have enough qualifications for the job you’re seeking? Specifically have you visited foreign countries and met foreign leaders?
Aren’t you conceited to be seeking this high level job?
    Questions about foreign policy
    -territorial integrity of Georgia
-allowing Georgia and Ukraine to be members of NATO
    -NATO treaty
    -Iranian nuclear threat
-what to do if Israel attacks Iran
    -Al Qaeda motivations
    -the Bush Doctrine
    -attacking terrorists harbored by Pakistan
Is America fighting a holy war? [misquoted Palin]

Spot on. Liberal white males (I don’t feel right about calling them “men”) have a major homoerotic thing for black guys.

I will not vote for any ticket that includes John McAmnesty, but I wish Palin would have given that arrogant buffoon Gibson a dressing-down in interview. I think she’d have pulled it off, if adequately prepared.

Actually, I don’t believe you ever cared — you’re voting Republican coming hell or high water.

But I love the mental contortions you take in defending her in order to justify your vote. I have to ask though, do you read what you write sometimes?

Pregnant at 17, but at least not infertile and childless at 40! Rednecks are awesome (therefore we need some in the White House). Tatoo rings are cheaper than diamonds!

    Well,way down yonder in Louisville,
Lived a cat named Big Bad Bill,
    I wants to tell ya,
Ah the cat was rough and tough and would strutt his stuff
Had the whole town scared to death,
When he walked by they all held their breath,
He’s a fighting man, sure enough
And then Bill got himself a wife,
Now he leads a different life…
Big Bad Bill is sweet William now,
Married life done changed him somehow,
He’s the man the town used to fear,
Now they all call him sweet pappa Willie dear,
    Stronger than Samson I declare,
    Til the brown skinned woman,
    Bobbed his hair

I beg your pardon. The conservatives drive themselves up the wall because of their obsession with blk men. Just read about the different types of sex workers dems and repubs bring out when their conventions come to town, that will give you a hint as to which group has the biggest freaks.
