Heck, even if you fast-forward through the beach music scene of the 1960s and head out towards the era of Bullitt, Dirty Harry, The Rockford Files, and the Eagles, I bet that California was still just a wonderful, wonderful place to live.
I can vaguely remember the California of the 1980s, and it sure did look like The Gipper was having the time of his life up at Rancho del Cielo.
Personally, I’d be happy if I could shake Fess Parker‘s hand before he dies – they just don’t make ’em like that anymore.

I lived in SoCal during the late 80’s. It was still good and there were many hotties on the beaches (my favorites were Malibu and “free” Zuma). The 80’s was good. I lived in Thousand Oaks (T.O.). It really did look like the movies. You go into a restaurant or even the mall and there were many drop dead beautiful women (and good looking guys) all around you. Most of the women in their 30’s and 40’s were of the MILF kind.
Today its all different. There are a lot fewer “white” people and the non-whites that have replaced them are generally not as physically attractive. There seem to be far fewer clubs, and the ones that remain are all concentrated in Hollywood to West Hollywood area (many of these are better than your 80’s style clubs). Generally, however, SoCal is no longer the bodacious babe land.

California WAS a Paradise. It started to go wrong in the mid 1980’s when Illegal Immigration became a tidal wave.
Coupled with Clinton’s 1993 gutting of Defense Spending and closing down SoCal’s Aerospace industry for good, most Middle Class Whites could not afford to live in California any more. Certainly not along the beach where the weather is good. The few that stayed went to horrible places in the Summer: Temecula, Riverside, San Bernadino, Antelope Valley, etc.
Heat about 110 or so, and very smoggy.
Meanwhile the Venice/Santa Monica Boardwalk is totally Ganged out. Various Mexican gangs, cholas, MS-13, with the obligatory barely hanging on Black gangstas, and smattering of trendoid hipsters.
Newport Beach is better, but go north to Huntington and it’s nearly the same thing, south to Laguna and it’s Gay or rich spoiled brat (the various MTV reality chicks all hailed from there). Girls 17 going on 40, and various plastic surgery disasters filled with collagen bee stung fish lips and pulled back faces.
Critically, there are no families around. One thing a bunch of families do is indicate the presence of safety and security. This makes women more relaxed and open to approach, since the surroundings cue that there are plenty of folks to help them (fathers generally don’t tolerate harassment of people) if they get into trouble, unlike urban/edgy environments particularly such as Santa Monica, Venice, Melrose, etc.

I graduated from UCLA in 1983. It was then maye 85% white, 10% Asian, and 5% other. And, yes, the Beach Boys were right, the cutest girls in the world. Walking across campus you would see dozens of 9s and hundreds of 8s, many blonde.
I was getting a new passport in West LA a few years ago, went in early, and was told to come back in the afternoon to pick it up. So I decided to make a nostalgic visit to the past. I do not think I saw one student with blond hair. The black and Hispanic percentage, very low, appeared unchanged. And surprisingly not many more Asians. I saw one girl who was visibly an Ashkenazi Jew.
The vast majority of students looked to me like Sephardic Jews, dark Mediterranean Caucasians. In retrospect I think most were what Steve Sailer calls West Asians, Iranian or Azerbaijani.
California is just not a Caucasian place anymore. It has Hispanic underclass/working class and a business/upper class composed of non-Europeans. I don’t think having a population mainly from rough, non-democratic places is good for the social climate.

You guys are all nuts – firstly, UCLA is overwhelmingly Asian – way more than 10%, probably over 60%, and many of those “whites” in the 80’s were Jews anyways, as is the case in all the elite unis.
Yes, Cali is less white than it was but no less than any other major American urban landscape – New York, which still has gazillions of hot white girls walking the streets, strikes the first time visitor as truly inundated with non-whites.
I’m not saying Cali isn’t fucked – but no more than any other part of America.
SoCal still has gazilions of hot girls – interestingly, whatever magnetic pull led to the overloading of white beauties in SoCal now draws the hotties of all races – the Asians there are hotter than elswhere in the country, the Persians there are hotter than elswhere, and the whites are still hotter than elswhere in the country (maybe not NY).
And blonds are the less hot variety of white girl anyway, so no great loss there.

You’ve only witnessed the latest incremental step in our out-of-control immigration, which might not look that radical if seen from the perspective of, say, ten years (although I’ve actually seen many natives report how much worse it has gotten over the last 10 years.

I live in Los Angeles.
It is true that the place is about 60% white. Most beautiful white people have all left for San Diego or San Fran or Boston or Portland. However, of the replacements, very few are Mexican. Frankly, Mexicans are invisible and stick to themselves. Instead, welcome the Iranian, Persian, Thai, Armenian, Indian and Middle/South American women.
California still has high standards of beauty. A 10 elsewhere is a 9 here. Hell, a 10 in DC is an 8 here. Party girls who arrive are stilled pressured to join a gym and settle for fewer drinks thrust into their laps.
Note that these women of other cultures have different attitudes towards sex and dating. My Thai girlfriend gains at least 1 pt for her lack of inhibitions around sex. Persians lose 3 points for their extreme inhibitions (don’t think they’re being coy; the closer they are to being FOB, the more they use sex as a weapon).
The white people are crowded into certain areas in Hollywood and SF Valley, yet SF Valley remains “uncool” for class reasons (laborers and white trash live there) and so the 9’s and 10’s avoid it unless they’re shopping. For some reason this makes 8’s easier to pick up in the valley.
One of the reasons LA has declined is due to the influx of wannabe PUAs. These are the men that hide their fear behind giving too much unsolicited advice, “manly” physical gestures, telling unnecessary stories, and rabidly pursuing women. They are everywhere. They get women, but no more than an i-banker in NYC does; they fill a certain role, and beautiful women are attracted and ultimately use these men for a thrill, the same way they would use a man of money on the east coast. These wannabe PUAs do all the work for the women – take them out and handle all the logistics. The result is that more women know the female equivalent to game in LA than anywhere else, barely edging out NYC. The trick to gaming women in LA is now more than ever to make them chase you; to have friends more beautiful and fun than they are, rather than any attempt to talk your way into her pants. Don’t try to show her a good time; make her come to you. Don’t ever take a girl on a traditional date – she will use you as her emotional tampon (Ryan, I wish you were reading this. Bridgette wants aloof Brett, not you, but likes your money and attention).
The cougars here more vicious and more deluded. They are ridiculously easy and still bangable. They are, for some reason, more shocked when you don’t call them back. I guess the hotter they are, the harder they fall on your cock.
It’s still an interesting place. It’s just no longer “easy pickings” for 9s and 10s unless the girl has just arrived and is looking to make it as an actress/model (still 75,000 women a year).

Last week they convered Tecumseh; this week, they’re convering the Trail of Tears incident, and how, for all their hard work to be “civilized” the Cherokees still wasn’t good enough for White folks. Sounds eerily familiar, from my standpoint.

About the Indians getting shafted:
It wasn’t that they weren’t good enough. They were different, lived in their own social setting (tribe), and occupied nice land. They tended not to generate money from their economic pursuits. The result was predictable. In Europe, they would just have all been killed off. The Europeans colonizers in Africa did a lot of the same thing, for the same reasons.
Plenty of Indians did integrate into European society in North America, but that was a very hard process for them. Here in Maryland I meet plenty of people who have some Indian ancestry. They essentially had to intermarry and lose their old cultural identities, including their language, religion, concepts of property, and role of men in society. There are very few accounts of adult male Indians going “European” while there are plenty of accounts of Europeans going “Indian.” We civilized men don’t realize how much we lose by being civilized, and just how difficult it is to be civilized. A great quote from an Eskimo (excuse me, an Inuit) to a white anthropologist studying their social structure: “I would never want to be a white man. All white men have bosses. I am an Eskimo. Nobody tells me what to do.”

Actually, I’m sure I’d enjoy the series. Not sure when it plays, though.
As for the Cherokee, I have plenty of respect for them, but the fact is that they consistently fought on the losing side of wars. That’s really what got them screwed. I don’t blame them for it, but it isn’t so much racism that did them in as bad judgment, and, more importantly, bad luck.
My grandfather was an Indian historian, and wrote several books about the Creek and Cherokee. I am fascinated by their history, and honor the people. They are very much a part of my own heritage. In all likelihood, some of that blood flows in my veins, and I am far from ashamed of that.

Huntington Beach may seem that way on a busy summer weekend or holiday, but it’s not that way when the tourists go home. Which is to say the locals are not ganged out, at least not yet. I’ve never feared for my safety at the beaches in Huntington or at the pier. Heck, during the off season I’ve walked the beach from the pier to Seapoint Ave and back, late at night, without the slightest concern. The cops and lifeguards don’t even bother enforcing the curfew during the fall and winter. They don’t expect trouble from the locals.

I am sure PBS will give a fair and balanced review of the treatment of Indians by the Europeans. What else would you expect.
In truth, with the exception of the Pilgrams at Plymouth, I know of no European settlement that was not quickly meet with lethal force by the Indians. Columbus’ overwintering crew was murdered, remember. Heck, the first modern Europeans to set foot in North America, the Vikings from Greenland, were driven out by lethal force. Imagine how much different the history of the Indians would have been if they had allowed the Vikings to settle in North America. The Indians would have been brought into contact with European civilization in 1000 A.D. (roughly) and been able to integrate European technology and become part of the European trading system and adopted beneficial European economic, technical, and agricultural practices. They would not have been overwhelmed and destroyed by firearms and small pox like they were after 1500, when the cultural gap was too great for them to bridge.
The quick Indian resort to violence was in the end their undoing.
BTW, you never stop hearing B.S. from the media. I just read some piece in Salon to the effect that the Europeans were immune to smallpox because of centuries of exposure to it. Total crap. The Europeans were very susceptible to small pox, but, they had it young and the survivors were immune. Remember Jenner and the cowpox vaccine? LOOOOL So laughable!!! Costa Rica is the only Nation of Central America that is/was traditionally European-majority.
That’s why they get so many (non white) immigrants, because they have created (surprise!) a somewhat nice country to live in. In the 70s Costa Rica was 80% white, today it is about 50% or so… still. compared to the neighboured countries it is the white one. That’s why they are being fucked up.
