For those of you new to the blog, I wrote about the inevitable sexbot revolution back in August 2007:
A robot that is an exact replica of your favorite supermodel and that has feedback to sound and touch (for example, she’ll move her limbs and gyrate during sex as well as talk dirty and respond to commands) would supplant all other masturbation tools as the preferred method of getting off for men who can afford it. Once sexbots become affordable, internet porn consolidates to one or two websites for spank snobs who insist on “authenticity” and proles who must suffer the humiliation of not only being too poor to afford real women but fake ones as well. But, outside of self-pleasure and procreation, would sexbots replace real women?
For some men, yes. The replacement would be total, at least until the dating market adjusted to the new reality. For other men, sexbots would be a part-time replacement. The result will be a shift in the mating landscape that will put selection pressures on humanity equivalent to a massive plague or a catastrophic famine.
Sexbots are a very real threat to the established order because men’s sexuality is so visually driven. Compared to women, it is a rather simple affair to create an alternative sexual outlet for men.
Everything that has happened since is gradually confirming the predictions I made in that post. If I was off, it was only in the surprising speed with which we are marching into a world of sexually alluring artificial women. The sexbot revolution is coming, and the (arguably) most beta male country in the world is leading it — Japan. Is anyone surprised that beta males are at the vanguard of the movement? The latest development is an interactive virtual girlfriend with juicy boobs that you can fondle:

It is interesting to speculate on what impact sexbots will have on societies ruling ideology.
On the one hand, buying men off with sexbots and virtual reality sex will make them on the whole a lot more pliable. On the official level, I see more misandry.
On the other, women’s value in the sexual marketplace will plummet. Women will be treated as utterly disposable. On the unofficial level, I think this makes for a lot more misogyny.

The real impact of such technology is one ignored facet of human society:
Men will not work any harder than is necessary for an average existence. Technology deflates the price of products, and any attempt to prop up prices ends in pain.

It’s one thing to make a robot look passable as a human, but it’s orders of magnitude more difficult to make an android that actually feels, sounds, smells, and *seems* human. Without that genuine “human-ness” then these sexbots won’t have any advantage over spanking it to live action/animated/virtual porn. And researchers are nowhere close to replicating genuine human-ness in machines, so I think your predication is grossly premature.

i’m not a evo bio/psych reductionist, but i always like to think about the ramifications of natural selection. in the absence of polygamy the ideal female mating strategy involves either procreating with alphas and convincing betas to raise the offsrpring or domesticating and alpha. only a very small percentage of women will be able to accomplish the latter, so most women will have to make due with some form of the former.
this strategy has become apparent in our social norms. most men are expected to adhere to some behavioral standard when it comes to women, whether it be traditional chivalry or post-modern feminism, while a small subset of alpha males will be able to act with impunity. there’s no reason to believe that new technology will necessarily change that dynamic.
this thing could go either way. a large population of men who willfully remove themselves from the dating market may have any number of positive effects for those men who have the game to keep at it. on the other hand, it’s possible that we will see a whole bunch of laws and regulations that control access to sexbots and how they are used. so access to virtual may become subject to the same control that access to real women is.

many of you guys seem to be missing something. if this technology is widely available for use, then market forces will do their work. if, however, it is tightly controlled or banned, then the average beta is almost worse off than he was before.

The female facial attractiveness has increased little (due to cosmetics), it is the de-sensitivity of men that has increased much more. The expectation / standard of what is considered beautiful and what the guy is ready to settle for has increased due to media and pornification of women (which incidentally coincides with the increase of credit driven consumerism which is thankfully subsiding). The physical features of women have not changed radically. The standard of beauty has changed. And even has somehow convinced himself that he can certainly pull one. So he won’t settle for average. Well, sorry, there’s not enough young hotties to go around, that’s the reality. But you can’t really fool Nature because even in everyday life, guys will still be affected by a naturally beautiful or cute female. They cannot help it. This bot might not bring revolution. It could desensitize men even more, but it cannot completely pull them away from their biology. It is so evident in their facial features when they look at a pretty lady.. it seems like the smile appears on their face so naturally, they don’t even think about it.
It works the other way too, for females. It’s very hard to settle for someone who is not hot.
VR sex will never substitute real sex. Much less will it ever substitute emotions or intimacy, the authentic bond between the man and the woman. This bot will just be another form of porn, with a slight touch of necrophilia.

Yes, but that’s a difficult argument to make because porn has been institutionalized as legal over the last several decades. And because there will be too much money to make from it, powerful interests will frame it in terms of a constitutionally protected privacy argument.
If they ban and regulate this, then we’re in a totalitarian state and no rights exist at all. So I doubt it from a legal standpoint.

There is of course an asymmetry between males and females when it comes to sex drive, as male sex drives are higher. There are some slight differences in sexualities. But by and large, women also have desires. So it would only be fair and equal if males would be sexually objectified like the females are. This already happens. Brad Pitt. George Clooney. Etc. Men *are* objectified physically. It’s just that most women tend to evaluate men in more nuanced ways than men evaluate women — even as sex partners, hence the topic of this blog. If women were as motivated by male physical beauty as men are when it comes to women, the techniques discussed in this blog would not work, and instead we’d just all be advocating for men to get plastic surgery and become gym rats.
Women choose their sex partners. And they by and large do not choose it mostly based on appearance, once the guy is over a certain threshold. One of the differences between men and women. NOT socially imposed, because in today’s wide open sex market women have complete control over whom they are giving it up to.

Gotta agree with most of these posts. That the whole sexbot thing will finally rip power away from the attractive females who as of the moment control the supply of pleasure in our society. However I lean more towards the cloning idea. A virtual 10 will not beat out a real 7. Do put it in a modern context, would a typical man rather have sex with a prostitute 10 or a 7 who actually enjoys being around him? So what’s the difference? An advanced robot might do a better job of faking it? The need for connection, love and validation will still account for a lot.

Y’see, intimate committed relationships aren’t made up solely of contracts between two individuals. They’re also composed of contracts between those two individuals on one side, and their community on the other.
And currently, for men, those other contracts are extremely bad deals. One of the definite hallmarks of adulthood is future time orientation, i.e. behaving with intelligent foresight, and men who are paying attention know that their communities have, in general, become so corrupt, debased, and amoral that they will turn on them and effectively enslave them at a moment’s notice.
Which means that the rewards of pairing up with modern women simply aren’t worth the costs and risks anymore. It’s modern women, far more than men, who lack development as adults, so not only do you have to train them into acting like grown-ups, but you have to constantly monitor and adjust their behavior to keep the community and culture around them from driving them back into regressive infantilism. Yes, xsplat, I’m looking at you there. The costs and risks are simply too high for the meager, paltry, and all too grudging rewards that modern women are willing to provide, let alone the constant effort necessary to maintain their relative flotational sanity in the sea of a deranged culture.
Which is why the men who are capable of committing to intimate relationships but refusing to do so aren’t doing that because they’re losers. They’re doing that because they’re winners. And people like you try to shame them into servitude with labels like ‘loser’ because you’re so incompetently lazy and dependent upon getting and keeping them in harness. You use terms like ‘loser’ in order to beat them down and make them serve your needs at their own expense.

Acksiom, the most challenging and important task we all have as humans is learning how to deal with other humans (and the point of this blog, right?). If you aren’t able to deal with other humans on a sexual level, then something has gone wrong.
I understand why you might want to opt out of marriage or kids or even LTRs, but opting out of sex except with robots definitely seems like a minority decision (if it is a decision, sounds more like a rationalization). So I don’t see sexbots changing the world much, but rather just being another sex toy option.
I’m not trying to “shame men into servitude” (I have no problem with the existence of sexbots). But getting a sexbot as a guy seems like turning to multiple cats and lots of ice cream as a woman: it’s a substitute for what you really wanted, which you failed to get. Look folks, some of you are taking the idea of sexbots to an illogical extreme. Sexbots are NOT going to permanently remove betas from the dating pool. What they ARE going to accomplish is the de-valuing of the poon.
Has porn made men want to screw beautiful women less? Of course not. Quite the contrary. By using these cues, these women of lesser dating market value have been able to still command the attention of potential suitors whilst also holding on to their precious “princess” self-esteem. The slutty clothing lures us with the promise of sex that may or may not be had.
When the sexbot revolution comes -and it WILL come -the Princess syndrome will cease to exist. The porn revolution brought about a change in cosmetics. The sexbot revolution will bring about a change in behaviors.
Man’s #1 relationship need is sex. Pure and simple. Not lovemaking (always a bonus, though) – sex. And hey! It’s safe sex! Exactly. He’ll kick that shit to the curb post haste.
Think of the social implications to the girl: “he traded you for a robot”. Sound funny, like the guy’s a real loser? Not really. Almost all other males will sympathize and say “Hey man, good call. WAY better than getting married to her and then totally getting screwed.” Given this stinging rebuke, the woman’s pool of potential future male suitors will dry up as well. Her problems won’t just be with men, though. To be sure, she’ll have a small cadre of yenta sympathizers but there will be a much larger pool of woman who a) will mock her in a passive-aggressive fashion and b) will try harder to be the one that the guy “obviously couldn’t exchange for a robot”. Bwahaha.

Sexbots will likely have the same impact as other forms of mass, effortless, solitary entertainment, like T.V., which seems to have killed off playing bridge, once a very popular game and a very social event, since it takes at least four people. It was a great game for married couples. That is, they will reduce the need to socialize or interact with fellow humans. Some people think this is good, some bad, some don’t care.
I was reading Conan Doyle’s life story. At his boarding school, the boys had to amuse themselves, since they had no T.V., computer games, DVD, internet, phones, girls, or radio. They did this with sports, hiking, and interestingly enough, putting on plays, lots of plays. Putting on plays was a big social event and everybody got involved and loved to play diverse roles.
Sexbots will just be one more nail in the coffin of our society. So what. The next Ice Age will straighten all this nonsense out.

He won’t have to worry about being set up for false DV or rape charges, buying her new furs, or diamonds, etc. in order to get sex. He won’t have to worry about being ass raped in divorce court either. If he buys a neglige for the doll, it will actually wear the stuff. The periods in most LTRs where the man gets adequate emotional sustenance from his wife end with children in most marriages. Then he becomes relagated to the role of a beast of burden who never does enough. Sexbots will look very good to that poor bastard at that point.
The big thing here will be convenience and availability. Much of the market value of women is due to the large numbers of betas they are able to reject. When demand drops from a few hundred suitors per woman to a few jaded and predatory alphas, it will indeed have an impact on their market value. There will also be many fewer fall back betas for the women who fail to marry their dream alpha early enough.
Basically, women are a high fixed cost in one’s life and most men, once they have experienced the myth of marriage and relationships, will prefer a sexbot, especially if they’re over 45 and have lost their ass in divorce court. Women will be demanding they be banned.

A friend of mine, on vacation with his then girlfriend, sort ruined the mood of their romantic dinner when he let his ID out and said:
“If it wasn’t for sex, men would end up hunting woman like deer.”
It wasn’t said with any rancor or hostility, it just came out as a evaluation of the interaction of the sexes. They both prided themselves on open, honest discussions, and well, heh, that dropped out…sort of like a turd on the table.
A bit harsh, but I think the idea was echoing this sentiment:
“1. Lots of men already don’t much care for female personality traits and only put up with them for the sex.”
Now, perhaps the female personality traits have worsened in the modern era with all the developments people like Roissy have pointed out. Maybe they were always there.
Point is, your average hetersexual man loves sex, loves alot of of things about woman (a lot of it having to do with sex, but not all) and craves the attention and interaction of woman. There is something alluring about the female which is even deeper than the primal urge to mate, which granted is a big factor.
Still, the problem is that for most men, maybe in fact all, you woman are frankly a pain in the ass, and we often wonder, sex or not, if it is worth the hassle.
As another friend often says, “No matter how hot or fine a woman you see is, SOMEWHERE there is a man who is tired of her shit.”

Let’s take it a step further and assume bio-tech allows the creation of actual living sex androids (Blade Runner, anyone?).
On the ‘loser’ front, if the trend line for dissing males and treating them as 2nd class citizens next to woman continues, who ends up being the losers? Is a Beta who marries his 5-6 who has now deigned to marry him, and is forced by law to raise all the children his wife has with the alphas she’s still chasing, and is lucky to get a mercy screw once a month, one he’s not really into anyway, a ‘winner’ becauses he’s got a real woman?
With these two possible trend lines, is anyone seriously telling me that a line of Daryll Hannah fully interactive bio-sex droids is not going to explode in popularity? They’d be like freakin’ game consoles now that Beta guys decide they need 1 of each brand of, only to the 100th power.
She offers sex, companionship, and without freakin’ nagging you about taking out the garbage or giving you shit-tests every other day.

Ok, Seram, after you and others have been repeating the problem with “todays women”, I’m starting to empathize with that view, and see how some men might feel a bot might be the best choice.
It seems strange to me because I’m used to love relationships. Sure, I’ve dated girls who treat guys like shit, but my experience is that for many of those, I was able to twist the tables and ensnare the spider-wenches. I was able to make the nasty girls fall in love with me.

I am not sure if you got my point. I know this risks toiling in a dying comment thread, but let me try to clarify.
Roissy’s point, and others, is that Beta males are what built the society around us. They built the affluent civilization that new affords women the ability to run around trying to secure Alphas in their sexual prime and spurn the Betas.
Thus, Betas are not ‘losers’. They are the building blocks of pretty much everything you see around you.

Betas DO ‘deserve vagina’, in that its their seed and their offspring who will create and build the shit that keeps a modern society not only advancing, but hopefully not falling down around our ears. If you expect to do NOTHING to attract a woman, you better damn well be Adonis reborn or you are friggin kidding yourself. Women, who have numerous men after them, have to be selective or they would never get any friggin’ sleep.
The problem is that for too many woman, particularly in America, Western Europe, the selection process has boiled down to their most base desires and instincts. Again, being only human, men should be able to relate, but the whole of civilization is that we curtail or control our most base desires and instincts for the betterment of society. That’s why I DON’T chase down, run off the road, and beat the shit out of every ahole that cuts me off in traffic and then gives me the finger.
Relationships are great (I am married 8 years), but it requires true committment and appreciation of someone for more than the number of people that want to fuck them. That’s not a horrible criteria to put among others, but if its the sole one, then its not much of a ‘relationship’, is it?
So, now, getting back to the sex-Bots, with Betas locked out of the gene and dating pool based on the new reality of women (Alphas or nothing!) they are going to turn their technical talents to other things, and why not simulacrums of what is being denied them, and which fulfill at least some of their needs?
So, if they are losers for that, then what does that make women who chase after Alphas they cannot possess, and then turn to Betas who have no interest in them because their needs are mostly met with the Jessica Biel 3000, without all the hassle? What does that make the whole of society when the whole freakin’ thing comes crashing down?
If Betas are losers, its because in the end, everyone will be. Welcome to the club, ladies, but drinks are no longer free. Sorry.

You are seeing the “trees” of today’s unique and in many ways bad dating environment but missing the “forest” of the fact that men and women are complemetary beings and under better/normal circumstances, sexual relations are harmonious. ‘Bots are an improvement in degree, not in kind, over ‘rosie’ and internet pron.

Of course. You disagreed with me, but were respectful about it. Its how truth is uncovered.
I don’t think we’re actually in disagreement all that much. Today’s environment, and what it has wrought, and will bring, was what we were talking about, at least in part.
Nowhere did I say men and woman are not complementary beings, but rather the balance has been pushed out whack in today’s society.
The point of the Futurist, who brought me here, and Roissy is that natural forces will eventually set this aright, but before that, there is alot damage to be done, which will make the snap back all the more painful.

Soliciting a prostitute is also an improvement in kind over porn and rosie, but it also is not really what you are talking about as being the ideal. Yet, prostitution has always been a common thing in human society, fulfilling a need, as it were.
My original points about Bots is that A) to dismiss them as simply silly in concept was to completely deny current trends, and indeed human nature and history, B) once accepting their inevitable rise, to then deny their possibly huge affect on society was also short-sighted.
To sum up. I am NOT saying that sex-bots will be a good- -as-the-real-thing substitute for an actual woman. I am not quite as cynical as that (yet).
However, they will become an ever-increasing and serious competitor for real women *if* current trends continue, which is 1) Sex-bot realism evolves, 2) Human female behaviour devolves.
Let’s agree to disagree and compare notes in 5, and then 10 years.

Seran, your notion that the sexually undervalued betas will contribute less to society because they aren’t getting enough sexual healing feeling has been expressed many times. That betas go sexually hungry will lead to a loss of productivity that will lead to the fall of civilization is preposterous and I disagree with it. But even if I did agree, so what?
People who hold that view, that women are acting irresponsibly, and will get theirs in the end, have absolutely nothing interesting to say to me. So what?
What, as individuals, are you going to DO about it? Who cares if women act irresponsibly – what are you going to DO? Shaming women to fuck betas – is that the plan of action? What is the plan of action?
What I hear from people who put forth this view that society will collapse unless the women get their act together and fuck the supposedly productive beta drones (another assumption I argue against – production is caused by inventors who have incentive enough without sexual promise, and burning oil in our machines – drones are everywhere as people need to eat food, no matter how sexually hungry), what I hear from them is that the betas are deserving, and society should change such that we get society back on track.
It’s a completely uninteresting argument, because there is no grounding of reality in it. What are you going to DO. Do, do, do, do do.
Not should. Not could. Not would. That’s totally boring and useless.

The idea that truly realistic sexbots wouldn’t have any more impact than porn or prostitutes is clearly incorrect:
1. Porn can’t provide the up close look, feel and smell of a real woman.
2. Prostitutes who are 10s are expensive.
3. Having unprotected sex with a prostitute exposes you to disease, and even with condoms there is still some risk.
4. You can’t own your own private prostitute.

There is something that most of you are missing. Virtual sex can still involve real women, only fewer will be needed to supply demand.

I did not ask for or call for action in that post, just made observations. It was not within the scope of what I was discussing, and so it seems to me that you are continuing a conversation you were having with someone else.

I was going to argue your point #4, as men do have their kept women, acting as the sugar daddy which is the same thing as prostitution on retainer, really. But then I realized you were right; that ALSO takes a large amount of cash, similar to #2, so it is beyond the grasp of your average guy.
When Sex-bots (or really GOOD VR; think holo-deck) hit mass production and the price goes down on it like all other technology (assuming non-interference from the government of course), it becomes affordable like computers, plasma TV’s and all the rest.
