You know Tman, I used to think the same thing. Then I started really thinking about what GBFM was saying. Lots of it is laced with ADD and run-on thoughts, but the basic idea is sound:

-By printing money and financing American debt, the bankers (Bernanke et al) allow the nation to finance its wars of protection to keep the trading paths open. Like the Brits of 19th century, trade insurance is the best benefit of the worldwide reach of the American military.

-Additionally, there’s an international backscratching going on between bankers and businesses to provide capital for their expansions and grant credit to their customers. People, especially women who were traditionally less able to work for wealth, can buy products with the fiat money, further tightening the feedback loop.

-The deconstruction of the nuclear family and de-emphasis of gender roles drives adult women into the workplace, where they serve as simultaneous producers and consumers for the machine, and puts them in competition with men ensuring social disharmony and an expanding need to buy shit.

-Conservatives like Charlotte Allen who believe in America as an example and exporter of positive values (this is a key tenet of the “neocon” philosophy) seek a return to traditionalism and away from the free-money/free-sex game, thus they have a dark fascination with people like Roissy and Tucker Max. Although they don’t exactly advocate a return to the 50’s, and in fact take full advantage of our no-rules modern world, their work in developing leadership skills and male social dominance are enough to keep a thinking socon interested.

I haven’t quite figured out where the butthexing comes in except as a metaphor for the wealthy interests screwing the common man and woman.

You can enjoy his quirks without even considering whether the ideas make sense when thought through, or whether they hang together at all. But hang together they do, in an odd sort of way. To me, once you dispense with style, it’s paleocon boilerplate – overly interested in internecine warfare, disproportionately obsessed with economics as opposed to ideas and naively isolationist in foreign policy.

Its primary mission is to wrest the mantle of True Conservatism ™ from the neocons. As such it employs over-the-top rhetoric which blames them for everything under the sun (as if the left’s decades of memetic warfare has not created the battlefield conditions they had to play on). And given the last 7 years or so it’s an enticing pitch.

But they don’t offer a superior alternative. They don’t grok technology, foreign policy or memetic warfare. So you’re swapping out one set of flaws for another.

It’s worse than this – the above would be a zero-sum game, but taking into account the diversion of one’s time and energy to the pursuit of cheap thrills, a negative-sum game would be a more likely scenario. So, the value is doubly negated by availability.
