I’ve noticed recently that google pushed news results (which include current events) a bit further down on the main page, whereas they used to be near the top. It’s annoying, as I am usually looking for current news when I search, but it makes sense. The relevant info for the Lincoln Memorial is not what’s happening there now, but the landmark itself. If you were doing a report about it, you wouldn’t give a flip about Glenn Beck. If you want news results, click on the news tab. The Glenn Beck story is top there, even on google. I don’t think this is a left-wing conspiracy.

Google needs to evolve from a search engine into a Request Engine. As a hypothetical example, if one searches for “Sammi Hanratty bikini” nothing turns up. Drats. These non-hits should be cataloged, collated, and forwarded to the searched-upon-party so she will post some bikini pictures pronto!

I don’t know if this has been said already, but Google makes its profits off of advertisers that buy top spots on the search engine results. If you are unhappy about the way Google presents its stories then be unhappy about the big businesses that shell out money to spew their propaganda instead. For example, British Petroleum paid large sums of money to gain a top spot on a search for “BP oil disaster” or anything related so that people would be directed to their site. For all the doubters here…..anyone searching Google Maps for “Lincoln Memorial” (as they might do if they wanted directions there, maybe to go to an event or something), receives in return the location of and directions to the Franklin Delanor Roosevelt Memorial, NOT the Lincoln Memorial. (This is true as of right now, 2am PST)

Athol had the good sense to save a screen shot of the effects of typing “I want my husband to …” into a Google search engine box. I in fact tried the exact same search back in March or April, and got the result that the top search result was “I want my husband to dominate me.”
Try the same search today, and you can tell that some feminist ordered the Googlers to eliminate what had been the top choice. They will do ANYTHING to hide the truth of their natures, and Google is in cahoots with them!

A more famous example of this happened a number of years ago- the top Google result for “miserable failure” was George W. Bush (the White House home page). There was some liberal group that wanted to game the search engine to point to that, and maybe that’s plausible. Here’s an article:

Certainly SEO (search engine optimization) is a whole specialty because so many businesses depend on the placement in search results. They can be tweaked and gamed. But it defies logic to think that a few hundred people could manipulate something to the top of Google search results. I wouldn’t put it outside the realm of possibility that some staff were in on the prank, and this one as well, but probably not management.
I’ve been to the Googleplex, and it looks like the Stanford campus as reimagined by Fisher Price. Buildings in block primary colors like Legos, games and toys everywhere. There’s definitely an infantile feeling to it, to the whole culture. There are good parts to that – the 20% rule they have that employees are expected to work on whatever creative projects that they are interested in. Most of those don’t pan out at all, only a few become mainstream. It may just be the phenomenal money generated by targeted text advertising allows them to stay in a sort of suspended adolescence, corporate culture-wise, and masks a lot of sloppy management and organizational stuff. otoh, I’m sure the leadership would tell you they’ve built a unique and successful culture. Test of that would be if/when they slip from the top of the heap of Web companies and feel some real competition.

Danger, you’d have to use a “kike” to make a comparison. Jew in itself is not derogatory, if it is meant that way, it usually is apparent from the context.
I did not get the same results as you did on “nigger”, maybe because the results are passed through google.ca (I am at the moment in Vancouver).
Canada has (still) HRC, which US don’t, so maybe google feels the need to fill in the niche.

An excuse for this would be that “jew” is not a pejorative but the other ones are, so the searcher may not have been looking for negative information on that ethnicity.
However, i searched “Mexican” – a word that also has a double meaning for a people and a pejorative and the warning was not there.

The idea that Google ™, the company and brand, would change this, is laughable at best. Such a charge reveals a brash ignorance concerning how the internals of such a company truly operates as well as ignorance on how an internet-centric business is run.
I’m amazed at the belief that Google is a giant well oiled machine when it comes to the technological infrastructure. Even the most top-down analysis of IT companies, especially Google, reveals that the internet is held together by duct-tape and silly putty. I’m even more amazed that otherwise intelligent individuals, like many of the commenters here typically, would entertain for a second the prospect of corporate foul play here. Even if they did, a Glenn Beck rally is far off Google’s radar. They’re far more concerned and tied up battling Oracle.

The reason that the Beck result comes first is because it’s a New York Beta Times article. If recent, and if of significance, any NYBT articles always pop up in the first page of Google results.

Paranoia seems to be the Achilles heel with the blogger and his commenters here.
Anyone from any political persuasion could do some Google searches on some chosen terms and come up with “evidence” that Google is part of a conspiracy against that political persuasion. It’s a silly exercise in discovering a “political bias” in what is obviously a search algorithm without any such bias. It’s science for stupid people.
When CR writes about Game, he is almost always original, saying things that few others dare.
When he writes about broader social and political ideas he is almost always parroting some embarrassing ideological hackery that even the sources of the messages don’t believe themselves.
As a die-hard reader of this blog, it honestly saddens me when I see CR being made a dupe like this. It’s so beta.
