Why The Elites Prop Up The Blank Slate

Dennis Mangan nails it:

But it also occurs to me that Orszag and his ilk have another motivation beyond pushing their blank slate theories, and that is self-justification. Those like him who have made into the elite are made of sterner stuff, practicing their 10,000 hours, and thus deserve to be part of the elite, unlike you proles, wasting your time on TV and Nascar.

No, connections and intelligence have nothing to do with becoming a Cabinet member, or even a New York Times columnist. All that success comes from the superior morality of someone who buckles down to the task.

There is a lot of speculation about why the elites (and at present, the elites in America are mostly megaphone-wielding whites) are so insanely and stupidly gung-ho about the infinite malleability of human nature and the policy implications that follow therefrom.

  • They want to drive a wedge between themselves and “the wrong kind of white people” using the underclass as pawns so that they face less competition from those most likely to give it to them for the top career slots.
  • They are brown-nosing amongst fellow SWPLs for those ever-crucial status points that can only be signaled by hating and obfuscating the common sense that is the currency of thought with putatively less enlightened whites.
  • They are true blank slate believers.
  • They are creating artificial social obstacles designed to make it difficult for less intelligent whites to navigate their way into polite society, thus selectively filtering for only the most socially savvy to rise to the top.
  • They are paying the danegeld and rationalizing their extortion.
  • They are secretly ashamed of acting in ways in their own lives that deny blank slate theology, and therefore seek to assuage their guilt. Hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue.
  • They want to squeeze the middle class — their main competitors — and establish a virtual hereditary aristocracy of globalized ruling class transnationalists. Patriotism, religion, tribalism, and ethnic kinship all work against that goal.
  • They are bored with national prosperity.
  • They abhor hopelessness.
  • Do-gooderism is their replacement religion.
  • They are sadists who like sticking it to dumber people.

All the above reasons have a kernel of truth, but for a glimpse at what motivates the seemingly self-duping elites in their crass status whoring and propagandistic myopia, you have to peer beneath all that straight into the thermal core of their souls where self-conception resides and the ego sloshes in a cauldron of lifeblood. This is where Mangan’s answer hits upon the ultimate truth —

A defeat of the blank slate robs the elites of their self-satisfaction. Their pride is the beast that stands guard at the last gate, claws and fangs bared, a giant warhammer held aloft to stop those who would raid the castle. At this gate — the last stand before they must relinquish everything that defines their smug superiority — they will spare no quarter for platitude smashing barbarians. Here they fight with a viciousness that belies the nobility of what they claim to fight for.

If genes for intelligence, conscientiousness and discipline account for half or (probably) more of one’s success in life (i.e., success over others), then what does that say about the elite that doesn’t remove a large plank propping up their zealously guarded pride? What successful person really wants to hear that a big reason for their success was…

    I’m a successful businessman; of course dumb luck plays a great deal in it. I think of it like sailing, you try to catch every breeze perfectly, but in the end the wind and ocean are most responsible. I’ve had good fortune and bad fortune, I like to believe my reaction, preperation, thought, effort, etc helped me cash in on the good fortune and alieve some of the bad. But I know that I am very lucky. Over 99% of the Internet startups of my time are gone.

    If someone is benefited by good brains, good family and good upbringing, they should be thankful, not take it as an insult to their personal pride. Its a small soul that has to take credit for their every success.

    I’m not arguing that people don’t inherit beneficial/detrimental traits. But, the difference between bad and average, and average and good, can be influenced by study and practice. And in a society where most people are average, this is the difference between being stuck in the lower-middle class and making something of your life.

    To keep with the theme of this blog, most guys are fives, will marry fives (or lower), and have two kids who will be fives themselves. However, with decent game (i.e., study and practice), they have a good shot at regularly landing sixes or sevens. God forbid, if they correct their diet and regularly hit the gym, they also have a shot at (SHOCK) becoming sixes or sevens, landing eights (and, albeit rarely, nines), and starting a family with someone above their original potential.

    Can study and practice allow someone with no inherent potential to become great? No. But, it can allow them to become good enough to gain an advantage over their peers.

    Spread this over a couple of generations, and you can see why so many SWPLs profess this point of view.

I recently had a girlfriend tell me that as long as her kids were popular and decent at sports she didn’t care that much about their grades. Even my dad used to be the most concerned about how I did in gym class.

    The 10,000 dollar question is actually almost the perfect number.

    10,000 times 10 equals 100,000.

    A hundred thousand is around what you need to move from poor to elite in comparison.

    Not every person can be president obviously but every person can put the ten thousand hours in and be a hell of a lot better off.

    It took me 6570 hours to reach elite (for me).

    Maybe that is why I ultimatly rejected it as being to easy.

    If I would have used it though it would have put me in perfect position to become the next level of elite and be in a position of power to get used to the power and then go for the next level of elite (for me).

    I have a more simplistic view. People who got or maintained wealth through personal effort tend to reject the blank slate. This is why the farming class tends to be more conservative, because for it wealth requires more personal effort relative to other classes.

    Even in finance, I’d say that people who work at IB or trading desks tend to be much more denialists of blank slatism than people who work is less effort-intensive areas like Sales or Research.

    Because today a great part of the ELite does not make personal effort (i.e, NGOs, NY Times columnist, top-tier public sector workers…) and actually depends on someone else’s efforts to get their money, the blank slates serves as a rationalization of their status.

    To all the people whose jobs do not add anything to GDP and thus depend on the transference of someone else’s work results, the blank slate gives them the excuse for it. THe blank slate allows the idle classes to blame the ones who pay for them, instead of themselves, and justifies the alliance between the idle classes at the far right and the left side of the bell curve needed to outnumber the wealth producing classes

But the real mark of success, and all of these people know it, is the man who achieves through virtue, honesty, diligence and genius. A Napoleon or Wellington, Marius, Scipio, Ceaser, Phillip of Macedon, is worth 1000 Louis Bourbons. Every elite lives in fear and denial of this very knowledge.

    Long term aristocratic families in Europe have long known this and seek to raise their children with artificially induced hardship in order to give them character building experiences. This is the principle reason nobility saw military service as critical once it became no longer their main pastime. This is also a major element in the concept of noblesse obliges. As we know, even in Europe, many do not achieve these ideals. Our elites, being once removed fom the Old World culture, have only a superficial concept of this and in their lack of thorough analysis, have instead chosen to pretend they have invented their own flavor of rationalization for why they are superior. We will always admire more the man who overcomes hardship to achieve success. That is why so many of these people seek to mimic that idea. It is also why I believe in the free market, so it doesn’t have to be mimicked by so many.

    In a way sure but there is a thing called missiles and you can point them at things and if they are within a 100 miles of every target then you know when they launch a high volume (they have what 10,000) at one time and also know where everything is because of satellites of their own then you know whoever strikes first is gonna do most damage. Lets say it was a coordinated multi country strike though in us and out.
    Then you just realized you lost your military and all that are left are liberal fags. Or lets say for instance they suddenly decide to create some I don’t know optical devices to be able to actually aim a fucking gun correctly.

    The US historically happens to be the best at allowing talented people to have world-historical (or simply world) impact. Some places do not. It’s that simple — can’t have one without the other.

    “Equality of opportunity” isn’t a fallacy – an ideal, perhaps. “Equality of outcome” that the left has written into “equality” is certainly a fallacy. Outcomes have never been equal under the most draconian totalitarian regimes in history.

    If equality of opportunity is a fallacy, then so is the notion of any type of equality, since that of “opportunity” is a rather restricted subset.

    You speak of decadence as if this is something unique and inherent to the US. But, in historical (and even contemporary) terms, this is just ridiculous. Even today, Europe is considerably more decadent (in throes to multiculturalism, socialist elitism and cultural Marxism) than the US.

    America’s history of great religious awakenings runs counter to the meme of decadence you’re positing. If you do not understand this phenomenon, you don’t really understand the US.

    By setting an impossible goal, they made the organizing principle the impossible task of creating equality. Hence establishing the need for the state’s encroachment.

    Something tells me, Duxbury, that you are not an American. Certainly not in spirit.

    You need to have some context in order to understand the concepts the Founding Fathers (FF) expressed in their documents.

    The predominant political mode of organizing of the society at the time was monarchy. Whether constitutional or absolute, this system based on privilege by virtue of birth (nobility) was considered by FF outdated and inappropriate and inadequate for the modern times and they came up with the concept of “We, the people” as a self-governing entity to signify the radical departure from the political order of the times.

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

    The “created equal” denotes the concept that no one should have a legally codified privilege by the virtue of birth or heredity, and in it is implied the concept of equality of opportunity–no initial favoritism of one man over another. Once again, I emphasize “legally codified privilege”. Of course, some men grow up short, some wide, some slow, some become lame. But that does not preclude any of them to achieve any goal they choose, a priori.

    You may point out that some men are born into “privileged” families and by that virtue they have a head start. But that is not something that is legally codified. Anyone with an ambition, will and hard work can overcome social constraints because there is no legal barrier standing in the way. That is the meaning of the “created equal”, and by implication equality of opportunity.

    So, what about that “pursuit of happiness” stuff? This is not some carte blanche for hedonism as you interpret it. It is tied to equality of opportunity and the meaning is that when men set their goals, which is part of their Liberty, achieving these goals results in Happiness, which they are free to pursuit, because they are not beholden to a “legally codified privilege” and they have unalienable right to Life,a fundamental right that underwrites the rest.

    Now to the decadence. What is decadence? Decay and decline. What is the primary cause of the decadence? As we move further away from the original “We hold these truths to be self-evident”, we are losing out moral and intellectual clarity. The more the equality of opportunity is supplanted by equality of outcomes, the more is the initial set of self-evident precepts eroded and our moral compass is fading into oblivion.

    The solution to blank slatism is not to buy it. Simply take a good look at yourself, what you like to do, and what you’re good at, and push forward as far as you can.

    Since people need a leader to tell them what to do though, teachers can draw a line in the stand, and stop letting themselves be forced to essentially play the violin to cows.     My dad went from enthusiastic about changing the world and “each one teach one” to counting the days until his retirement. My mom, who teaches kids with learning disabilities’ heart breaks every day. I wonder how she doesn’t actually have the nervous breakdown she has been on the edge of every day after school for nearly 40 years.

    It’s not that anyone should give up on any group, but they should be being taught according to the realities of their culture, situation, and yes, racial tendencies, not under some imaginary standard, which is what blank slatism is.

    I’m sorry, but Black students need to have the threat of someone whooping their ass in order to behave. We’re naturally critical, assertive, socially pushy people, and if there is blood in the water…

    I’ve been told similar things about Russian kids from certain areas. Teachers here went through maybe two or three years of the kinder, gentler way before they intelligently went back to “we will physically restrain you and then call your parents”.

    Most of the kids who are real problems in school here are those from single mother homes. Single father homes don’t usually have hellians.

    Someone, I’m sure, is going to scream child abuse, but you know there is a difference between physical discipline and abuse. Kids need to have limits, and some kids with some kinds of tendencies need to have those limits enforced more realistically than theorhetically than others.

    Taking spanking out of the schools is a good idea because the teachers aren’t the parents, and don’t necessarily know the kids as well. Blank slating people as all the same and all aided by the same type of upbringing, and removing even the ability to restrain kids, as well as tying the parents hands against spanking was just dumb and devastating.

    Now, threats of lawsuits have teachers scared, and threats of jail have the parents scared…while real child abuse goes on barely dealt with because it’s mostly women or mom’s drunk boyfriend doing it.

    So it’s a ripple effect, but an extremely damaging one. When you consider the minds that have been wasted because of something that doesn’t even cost money: the ability to say no to a kid and have it mean something.

    Some psychologist decided that everybody is irreparably damaged by the threat that if they hit another student, their teacher is going to yank them out of class and their parents are going to whoop their butt, so everybody has to tow the line.

    It’s easy to say not to kill yourself over a bad relationship, but when certain things happen, those feelings will come up.

    The times in my life when I felt like that were not really because I felt damaged or violated, but because I felt stupid…too stupid to live.

    It was mostly feeling like I’d let myself down, and being unable to look at myself in the mirror after being such a complete and utter fool.

    I got over it by understanding that the people who loved me would miss me, and that I have a responsibility to them. Second, a chick killing herself over a guy makes him think he’s worth more than he really is, because he doesn’t know that the truth is that at that point, it’s not about him, but about her hating herself.

    In my case, I felt like one of those French whores who gleefully serviced nazis…like I was coated in shit and the decaying entrails of my murdered ancestors. I’d slept with the enemy.

    The utopian ideas have two aspects. One public and another private that acknowledges that some people are more equal than others. If the entry requirements are lowered enough, then everyone would be able to pass through college. The diploma would mean shit, but how everyone will feel good about being equal and edumacated! That is, there would be special mentoring setups for these more equal, though for appearances, they would go through the college like everyone else.

    Well, at least that is the intent.

    As for immigrants, especially illegal ones, they are used for certain social engineering purposes. Once a specific set of purposes is achieved (at least that is the rationale), then the immigrants cease to have any utility.

    We need to keep in mind that a hundred years ago the progressives were a theocratic Christian sect, that wanted to use the power of the state to impose their religion on everyone through the public schooling system – to get rid of all these Catholics and Jews. Since the first amendment was a seriously obstacle to this, they discarded deism, becoming, like universalist universalism, non Christian Christianity, a religion without a god.

    Consider, for example, the doctrine that men and women are equal – therefore the same and interchangeable: Women, supposedly, can be firemen and soldiers. Men, supposedly, can marry other men.

    Understood as a species of Christian belief, it makes sense, because the Christians believe that the most important part of the self is immaterial. If it’s immaterial, then material differences have nothing to do with it. So Christians are free to believe pretty much anything they want about this most important part of the self, unconstrained by material evidence of any sort. They are free to believe that deep inside everyone, there is a core, an essence, that is not the slightest diminished by bodily infirmity etc. etc. I.e., the soul.

    The progressives jettison God, replacing God with, presumably, Nature. So “equality before God” becomes “equality before Nature”. That is, natural equality (of some unspecified sort). And this could be how the progressives manage to believe in some unspecified “natural” (biological or whatever) equality even though no evidence backs them up. Their belief is derived, not from evidence, but from the Christian heritage of progressivism. Their belief looks superficially like a scientific hypothesis because all the terms in it could be interpreted as referring to natural things, but it doesn’t really have any empirical content, because “equality”, while it could refer to something measurable, does not actually refer to anything measurable. Any attempt to measure something to test the claim of “equality” is attacked by progressives.

    Progressives are using naturalistic-sounding words to talk about equality, but they are behaving as though it didn’t make any sense to try to measure it, which is how Christians would behave with respect to attempts to rigorously test equality before God. Their reaction would range from skepticism that it could be done, to the sense that it doesn’t even make sense to try, and finally to the certainty that it is heresy to even suggest such a thing and the person suggesting it is evil and possibly a sorcerer and should be burnt at the stake.

    The progressive reaction to naturalistic attempts to assess equality is exactly the same as the Christian reaction would be.

    The Christian view of equality is entirely impervious to empirical evidence, and so is the progressive view. It makes sense, then, to interpret progressives, when they talk about male and female equality, and about black and white equality, as really talking about the Christian soul, even though they themselves do not realize this is what they are doing because they have forgotten why they are going through these mental motions.

    Fascism is here and has been here for at least 20 years, some may argue closer to 50 years. All current statutes and regulations that are substantive and not merely symbolic fluff that are passed in Congress and every state legislature are drafted by corporate/business interests. Very rarely the dems will continue to put forth something drafted by a union of some sort, but thats really pretty rare.

    I don’t believe Fascism arrived under the cross, but religion/patriotism/”That’s Socialism!” seem to be the strongest shields against any effort to change the status quo. Fascism in practice is pretty close to socialism…except the redistribution takes place quietly, to select groups.

    American fascism in my opinion began with the sixties revolution and its foreshadowing was earlier, with the Warren court. It was implemented so gradually, it was like boiling a frog — it was hard to feel the encroaching authoritaranism because it was so incremental. It became really palpable with post-911 security measures, humiliating and unnecessary airport searches being one specific example.

    I disagree. Union members are pawns. It’s the union bosses that benefit, what a racket!

    Note I used big-biz moniker rather than business. For a reason. Let’s use CBB for corporate/big-biz. Small/medium biz usually work on a somewhat ethical platform, because that is the way that yields the best results as they are not that removed from their social environment.

    Here is how it works: CBB does not want to compete, it is better for them to create a monopoly, as then they can essentially price-fix the market. Another aspect to CBB ops is to minimize costs and maximize profits but not through the natural process of productivity only. They seek other avenues to maximize this spread.
    They do find extremely helpful tools–one of them, union bosses are just what doctor prescribed. By inflating union demands to the stratosphere, the CBB feels it gains a pseudo-moral carte blanche to move the operation to a place where the cost of labor is minute in comparison. CBB offers as a consolation prize to the union a package, of which a major portion is a golden parachute for the union boss.

    Both CBB and union bosses laugh on their way to the bank. (I haven’t see one poor union boss yet). The rubes? Who cares!

    I am not a big union supporter by any means, I am just commenting on my observations as a lawyer who drafts statutes and regulations and is personally familiar with the process. I agree with you that CBB is the mortal enemy of small business in this country, but for some reason, small business cannot find a political voice. The Repubs have sold out to CBB for years, and the dems want to over-regulate and tax them.

    But in defense of unions, they are not structurally a bad idea. There is a huge negotiating imbalance between the owner of productive forces and the individual worker. There is nothing economically wrong with the workers dealing collectively. It is in their practice that the unions are corrupt, but I’m not sure they are any more corrupt than any other bureaucracy or other organization. Like any organization that has to continually demonstrate their importance or relevance (in order to support those salaries that you mention) they do a bunch of stupid shit to make sure people know they still exist.

    Working conditions are much better now than in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and that is due largely to unions.

    Good comment. There are plenty of white people who don’t care all that much about academics. I recently had a girlfriend tell me that as long as her kids were popular and decent at sports she didn’t care that much about their grades. Even my dad used to be the most concerned about how I did in gym class.

    For girls, that’s an OK attitude. A physically-fit and graceful girl is more likely to be considered an attractive girl, and more likely to acquire a prosperous husband and breed descendants.

    For guys, that’s so-so advice. You need good grades to get into the good schools that serve as gatekeepers to success in the corporate world. If you’re in an entrepreneurial family, and likely to get set up in your own small business, academic success beyond being good at reading, writing, and math (pursuits which are increasingly deprecated in favor of politically-correct indoctrination) is optional.

    No. Ultimately, when the socialism gets to a full bloom, any traces of stratification are removed (while some token stratification is kept withing fascism) and you end up with a two-class system–the nomenclatura (the top 2% that hold all the wealth in their hands) and the rest, or as Orwel put it, the equal (rest) and the more equal (nomenclatura).

    In addition, if a young man is so concerned about pregancy that he will only agree to oral sex, the woman is allowed to use the sperm in her mouth after oral sex to impregnate herself and the man is still legally on the hook for child support. A number of cases have established this. I will include one example below.

    Bottom line, the courts have established that if a woman can obtain sperm from a rich young man, no matter what method she uses to obtain the sperm, she is able to get lavish child support payments.

    No reputable researcher or anyone who’s knowledgeable about the area claims that cognitive abilities are 100% determined by genes. It’s the leftist blank slaters who make the frankly preposterous claim that it’s entirely determined by the environment. Then through leftist PC control of the media and schools, they have forced everyone else to shut up about the subject when speaking to broad audiences, or at least to be extremely gingerly about it. They managed to get the Nobel prize winning co discoverer or DNA and head of a leading genetics research lab to be forced to resign for example — for speaking the truth. Specifically for saying:

    Culture/environment and genetic differences both play a part in the IQ gap. This long blog post on one of the leading blogs on genetics, GNXP or Gene Expression, references a lot of studies which strongly indicate that genetics plays a big role. It was occasioned by the forced resignation of James Watson for saying to a British newspaper reporter that development schemes for Africa would probably work better if they took into account the low average IQ of sub Saharan Africans. So the first part of the post focuses on establishing what we know about sub Saharan IQs. But the later part sums up a lot (by no means all) of the research which strongly suggests that genetics plays a large role and that differences aren’t just environmental/cultural. It also deals with the leading counter evidence, which isn’t large.

    BTW, are you aware Ruby that studies have shown that children from black families in the top income quartile get on average LOWER SAT scores than children from white families in the LOWEST income quartile?? How would environment or culture account for that? What accounts for it are 1) the genetic effect of regression to the black mean of 85 IQ and 2) that affirmative action coupled with being smarter than the average BLACK was what put the parents in that top income quartile.

    Occam’s razor, that key heuristic (rule of thumb) of modern science, which Einstein restated as “Everything should be kept as simple as possible, but no simpler”, also now strongly cuts against accepting a 100% (or very nearly that) environmentalist theory for the reason for the extremely durable black / white IQ gap:

    All of the relatively simple environmentalist theories for that gap have been convincingly demonstrated lacked by numerous studies, mentioned in the reviews above. Only increasingly elaborate and amorphous ones are left.

    In contrast it’s abundantly obvious how average genetic differences might account for a lot of the gap. Then feedback effects into the culture and environment that that black kids live in might effect the size of the gap as well.

    Specifically for the Alternative Right, do you really suspect black people and the public at large to believe that you are worshiping at the altar of Hereditarian Biological Determinism simply in pursuit of the “truth” as Half Sigma and OneSTDV claim?     You ask for evidence; I point you to mountains of it; you then question motives. This is a thoroughly illegitimate way to argue. But is typical of the left on any of their “theological” issues. Like this one.

    There’s always going to be debate over the right policy consequences of course. But it would, as Steve Sailer points out from time to time, be a much more productive debate if the very likely truth were admitted as being such as foundational in that debate, instead of pretending that that’s unthinkable. As for debate over causation, the fine details of that are going to take quite a while to unravel but work is proceeding apace.

    The great preponderance of the evidence points to genetic differences being important in IQ differences, but not solely determinative. That is what the hereditarian stance actually is.

    The debate over whether there are any genetic differences between the races which influence the black white IQ gap is only there because it’s such anathema to the PC code the the Marxist or heavily Marxist influenced left. If this were most other areas of science, there would be a general consensus that the hereditarians are probably right. Note hereditarians think both culture/environment and genes play strong roles in both individual and group differences in IQ.

    The work on other mental differences between individuals and groups is much less extensive but tends to go the same way. Twin studies for example show a lot of heritability of personality. (Note that genes are something of a roulette wheel in each individual case.)

    My motivation is 1) yes seeking truth, 2) pulling down PC bullshite and 3) seeing social policy be argued more honest, with some changes.

    Since the 1960s a very large part of social and educational policy in this country has been about reducing the racial gap in schools. Most of the rest of it has been about improving the lot of girls in schools, unis and the workplace, boys and men be damned. I’m against both in many ways; certainly in the way it’s been going on. Though I focus a lot more on anti-feminism.

    This doesn’t mean I want to give up on improving education for black children in general and black men in particular.

    That’s not what HBD stands for. The term was coined by Steve Sailer. It’s the acronym for human bio diversity.

    It’s the insight that if you know anything about evolution and the role that genes play in evolution, you’ll realize that genes as well as the environment are hugely likely to drive a lot of the differences between people, including mental ones. As well genes are also hugely likely to be causitive at least in important part for group differences on average including in mental traits, when populations have largely not interbred for many millenia, except at clinial points of contract. (Where we’d expect to see intermediate characteristics.)

    Just because a given population is less prone to producing nuclear scientists doesn’t make it less human or valuable.

    However, pretending that all human sub-populations are going to produce nuclear scientists in equal measure is just plain dumb.

    So the nefarious purposes of the many people who use HBD for, … nefarious purposes are perhaps best countered. But the problem is that the typical reaction is to deny the validity of HBD.

    Which you can’t. Evolution practically requires it.

    So, … any further calls to defend decency and social order has to fall back on general humanity.

    Anyway, then we have to see that some of the arguments have little to do with HBD, though they may appear on the face of it to be racist.

    For example, CR’s position has been that it’s nice to live with people like you, who look more like you, and act like you. This was the glue that once did hold society together. Such societies, while often less dynamic, in a greater sense are much more stable and successful. Humans are simple beasts this way.

    Another is immigration. Cultural/racial replacement is little different from invasion. In fact, it’s safe to say that the immigration from Hispanic countries is like a low-energy invasion wave; the Left often even approves of this. They hate white culture, hate everything that America has ever done, hate technology, hate hate hate – and have some fanciful admiration for, say, an Ecuadorian peasant and his/her values. So: They say it’s more of a Mexican Reconquista, and we deserve it.

    That’s the kind of self-flagellating, bitter anti-intellectual vitriol that the Left continues to ply us with.

    Countering either of these may or may not be racist (I say not), but HBD has nothing to do with them.

    HBD could be positively useful for identifying things like: lower general educational achievements by black Americans, as an endemic pattern. Perhaps alternative educational strategies could address this problem? Crime among black men: Perhaps two generations of imprisoning black males who are violent (10x out of proportion with any other group) and preventing them from breeding by putting them in jail would eliminate that problem. The resulting black males would be the descendants of the ones less prone to violence.

    There are other social policies which, while on the face of it, might seem reprehensible, but would be accepted as normal were it not for the blank slate ideology. For example, the idea that smart people should mate wherever possible with smart people -this goes on anyway. What we get is a self-perpetuating class of rather smart people, which is why elite whites in this country likely have more in common with elite Asians. Class trumps race: But class likely has some genetic component, almost certainly.

    Understanding humans and approaching them and studying them in the same way you’d study fungus or cockroaches or squirrels illuminates so many things, it’s hard to deny the usefulness of HBD.

    HBD is, in the end, just an admission that we’re animals.

    When they discuss it, they also take a determinist position, how ever they choose to deny it.

    I personally have no problem with HBD. Nobody on earth can actually exceed their potential. However, the over leaning on IQ as the be all and end all of human value screams of nerdy guys clinging to the one way they view themselves as superior to others.

    Then they treat high IQ Black people as if they’re inferior.

    This is why Obsidian gets frustrated. I don’t have the patience he does to deal with it. As far as I’m concerned, arguing with comparative cognitive midgets makes me feel dirty…like beating up a cripple.

    From my perspective, it’s like religious people who believe in the Santa god. They can’t conceive of a universe without one. HBD’ers took a good idea and went in the wrong direction with it. Nothing is wrong with the core “faith”. It’s the followers who screw it up.

    The belief is correct, but the believers insist that nature must somehow be playing favorites. Their heads are trapped in a bubble world of air conditioners and plasma televisions in which they’re the best at pushing buttons, and they think this makes them somehow superior to people who either don’t live in that world or don’t thrive in it.

    Africans, the genetic cradles of humanity, do not thrive in the button world. It doesn’t occur to those who can successfully sit or recline for 90% of their day, and still survive to a reasonable age, that some people are not well adapted to life in a bubble.

    The lower IQ’s are very likely an indication of this. People who don’t live in the bubble aren’t generally going to score as high unless they have exceptional skill, which would, in the case of Africans, account for there being the ability for that to develop in the first place.

    People who do live in the bubble but aren’t adapted well to doing that aren’t going to magically become able to, just because you change their location and education.

    Does this make them inferior?

    Well, you lay down in chains in the hold of a ship for months, then come out and have to work from dawn to dusk, be treated like an animal, and then have viable offspring who, until they’re coddled manage to have successful families despite still being treated like crap by almost everyone else around them, and then tell me.

    There are Europeans who’ve been through similar hells and have come out pretty much the same or less successful than African Americans in general.

    Everybody certainly isn’t equal in all things, but everyone alive today is the descendant of those who made nature’s cut. Determining value based on one aspect of viability and then determining the value of individuals based on generalities is as much fatally stupid arrogance as HSD (human social determinism).

    I could decide that chachabooboo is a better word for human biological determinism, but nobody else is going to understand what the hell I’m talking about. Using HBD as an acronym for “human biodiversity” is the equivalent of using “human bingabobob”.

    If what you mean is human biological determinism, then it’s dishonest to attempt to mask that by changing one word of it to something that isn’t even relevant to what you’re trying to express.

    I think I agree with Nicole on this. Her definition of HBD seems more logical, but I’m certainly no expert.

    It’s not how it’s used by those who say they agree with the evidence behind it.

    Furthermore “biological determinism” isn’t how those well aware of how evolution think it works with humans. There is a good degree of that yes, but also a lot of free agency. As well as environmental “determinism”, i.e. influences.

    Popular usage doesn’t change the actual meaning of a word or an acronym used by social scientists.

    When they say “HBD” they might, in their ignorance, think it means “human biodiversity”, but in actual use by the ignorant themselves, they mean “human biological determinism”.

    Their philosophy is not that people adapted differently, thus there is diversity. Their philosophy is that human’s potential is limited to and by their biology.

    That is determinism.

    Do I actually need to define diversity and determinism to you?

    HBD is not a philosophy, but a shorthand for those who accept the the clear preponderance of the evidence, as well as what we would expect from the mechanisms of evolution, show that differences in cognitive abilities and personalities are heavily but not entirely genetically influenced.

    There isn’t any absolute genetic determinism; the environment in which genes are expressed also matters. As does the ones in which the individual operates.

    The fact of the matter remains that Steve Sailer coined the term Human Bio-Diversity about a decade ago, and your attempts to hijack it won’t wash. That’s how HBD is used withing the Steveosphere aka among realists. Who are generally but not always conservatives.

    Compare that to the outrageous fight I had two days ago with that @Dalrerojo married White Knighter who thinks game is about insignicant males competing like sperm to get at justifiably cruel and choosy targets who can do no wrong and who, even if they lowered themselves to strip for men, would still be superior to those men.

    Nicole backed me up on that fight, which effectively meant she backed up what this blog is all about.

    So Doug, please back me up in fights the way Nicole does. Your a staunch advocate against feminism like I am.

    Its only been because of Roissy and maybe one or two others that men’s rights and anti-feminism have finally taken over the PUA studies field.

    There just isn’t any such use among social scientists.

    P, if ten out of twelve retards call human biological deteminism, homobingabobblity, and have done so for a long time, that does not change its meaning, nor does it make homobingabobblity a more suitable word to describe the approach to human behavior or the twisted, derivative, ideology that has grown out of generic White American male insecurity. The whole rest of the world has a real ethicity to brag on and coattail ride, but White Americans don’t want to be the descendants of slaves and criminals and disenfranchised Europeans running from whatever. So they have to cling to whiteness like it means anything to anybody else who matters.

    It only takes one credible scholar to use or define a term, and to do so properly within acceptable boundaries of the language, to make it a more valid term.

    How in the hell does “human biological diversity” become shorthand for “human behavior is largely influenced by genetics”. Biodiversity is only covering a portion of the overall biological determinism ideology, and it is impossible to tell, in usage by its White American adherents, whether they’re talking about just the diversity part or the overall determinism…because they don’t see a difference because they are midgets riding thr coattails of giants.

    Now, what’s funny about all this is that you people feel free to insult me, but when the shoe is on the other foot, suddenly I’m not playing fair.

    Don’t start none, won’t be none. Your calling me a Black whatever or backing people who do, takes not a point from my IQ.

    …but I don’t see how anyone who ever cracked open a book having anything to do with history in the 20th century missed the fact that eugenics was based on human biological determinism. If you’ve read anything recent on the subject of genetics, then you’d know that previous doubters of biological determinism got a shot in the gutt with the new understanding of epigenetics.

    See, this is why you need Black people.

    None of you would have figured it out. Why? Perhaps you are genetically socially retarded in the way that anyone who tells you anything that soothes your insecurity and boosts your ego, which you may have some genetically based need to base on your skin color (unfamiliar face oversensitivity) is believed without question.

    Perhaps it has to do with the Saxon bit of Anglo-saxon ancestry. You need to rationalize your oversensitivity with statistics that allow you to ride on averages instead of individual accomplishments.

    It wouldn’t have come out of nowhere. Plenty of Africans are just as tribalist and will, like in Rwanda, believe some megalomaniac who tells them that they are under attack and have the right to harm others physically or psychologically because they are different. Perhaps those traits were pro adaptive in western Europe, so you guys got like 400% of what an African normally would because you needed it back then.

    However, like the anger trigger of many Arabs, and the escapism of many Blacks, this embarrassing level of sheeplism is a blind spot that those of you who can, should try to compensate for.

    The definition of biodiversity is not the same as biological determinism, but you guys have been using the term human biodiversity to describe human biological determinism.

    I just showed you that determinism is the working theory, and that the biodiversity aspect is just one small portion of it that has been coined and is now used by non scientists as a replacement for the original and better term.
