Why was Osama Bin Laden’s body buried at sea before third parties could confirm its authenticity through DNA tests? Based on the experience of the last ten twenty thirty years, do you autonomically believe anything the government tells you these days? It would have been a simple matter to hold onto the body for the media to confirm it was Bin Laden.

No one is getting re-elected with unemployment so high, inflation of food and fuel, housing stillin the dumper, and an impending fiscal collapse from national debt reaching over 15 trillion. People don’t seem to realize that the US Fed is the largest customer of US Debt – ‘printing’ money.

I think we’re all in almost 99% agreement that OBL is dead, the navy shot him and he has been identified in a variety of ways. I have no doubt and I’m glad he is dead.
That said, Obama will not be re-elected because of the economy. Bush 41 had a 90% approval rating after the first Gulf War… and then got beat by Clinton because of the economy. This economy is far worse now, than the recession of the early 90s. The economy was even turning around before the election.
Not even the most glowing praise of Obama’s new hawkish stance on our worst enemy brought about through torture at gitmo will save his election chances. The only thing that’ll save Obama is a complete loser on the GOP side. Kind of like a John Kerry of the right.

The man got what he richly deserved in Pakistan in the last two days- is that really so hard to believe?
Fact one: He was being sheltered by the unlovely ISI.
Fact two: He made broadcasts, which were authenticated, which referred to events in 2008 and 2009, including a reference to the current President. That kind of discredits the Migz theory that he died in 2002.
Fact three: Even the Pakistanis have admitted he was killed there, something that is a pain for them to admit.
Fact four: No one else was appointed ceremonial leader of his blasted organisation in the past 10 years.
Fact five: His brothers in arms in the Gaza strip issued a tribute in his honour.
Fact six: DNA evidence.

Partisanship aside make no mistake, today is a good day for the United States. Sure, there will always be another enemy to rise up and take the place of the previous. So what? You cannot win any conflict adhering to this resigned attitude. Killing OBL sends a message that we still have perseverance. Reading in this forum really shows that many of our men today do not have the fortitude and grounded character that made American great. Pakistan’s interests are much broader than that. They were indeed accomplices in harboring OBL, but their interest in doing so, as well as other efforts in the AfPak region to hinder American operations, is aimed at removing the United States from Afghanistan entirely.

An Islamist/puppet state in Afghanistan gives them a human and materials resource boast to balance out what they view as an aggressive Indian government, as well as ample ground for a retreat during a ground war. Remember that the height of Pakistani aggression vis-a-vis India was during the rule of the Taliban. Through a shared Pashtun heritage, Pakistan was the chief sponsor of that medieval government. Finally, the Kashmir conflict is largely funded by the Saud family, who have a unique interest in uniting the Middle East under the banner of fundamentalist Wahabi Islam. They cannot accomplish this as long as the United States holds two geographic footholds in the region.
Pakistan has only assisted US efforts when our military leverage and threats of obliteration (credit: Powell & Hill-dog) were at their height, or the machinery of their government is crippled enough to leave them with no other option (such as the collapse of the judiciary under Musharaaf). This operation only serves to expose the extent of their backsliding.
In my opinion, we are much better off in South Asia as enduring, strategic partners of India. India provides a much more stable platform to both confront Iran from the East and check China to the South. When you print money (quanitative easing) in order to “stimulate” the economy, you induce inflation and higher commodity prices. Not only did the cash printing stimulus utterly fail, as admitted by Bernanke himself, but it led to the soaring cost of gas and basic commodities.
And when you cut off permits for offshore drilling, refuse to tackle the debt crisis which drives speculators away from the dollar and into oil, and in general just fuck up everything you touch, that makes things that much worse.

When I walked into that bar last night, I bee-lined straight for the most attractive woman (in a two set). I did so while looking at the TV which was in a commercial, making it look like I was stopping by their table because it afforded the best view of the TV.
Then I turned to them and asked “I just heard on the street that Obama Bin Laden was killed”.
They laughed and corrected me that it was Osama and not Obama and, yes, he had just been killed.
I then pretended that I needed to know all the details from them, while I provided them the background of the Navy Seals and earned a big DHV for having served in the military myself. They offered for me to sit with them and talk about it. I number closed.
Today I’m getting high fives from foreigners as Americans are somewhat of a celebrity. They’re saying “Your boys did well for themselves”, etc.
Some dour types are saying “You don’t really believe he’s dead do you?” These conspiracy types, if female, would refuse to grant an American any status or cred for this.
In that respect, spreading conspiracy theories too much, that take AWAY from the bravery and significance of the US soldier, is not in the interest of an American male. I can imagine a lot of dour-faced West European feminists today who’re convincing themselves that the whole Bin Laden death thing is fake and THEREFORE they would not feel a tingle for any passing American male.
I’m seeing those types this morning and, believe me, you want to meet the women who are excited and happy about this event, even if their minds are open to the possibility that there was some fakery to it (example: It is entirely possible that a faction of Pakis gave Osama up for continued funding after Clinton told them the price of continued funding was to allow the raid and make sure Osama was home for it).

The big problem I see with this bin Laden assassination is that it goes against everything Obama has stood for. From enhanced interrogation techniques, to the inability to make a strong “buck stops here” decision without equivocating and philosophizing on teleprompter, to not wanting to hurt Muslims’ feelings, to the fact that OBL was killed and dumped mid-ocean rather than captured and brought back to the U.S. for trial.
That last point in particular. Every time a terrorist has fallen into his hands, including the Gitmo detainees, Obama has tried to treat them like simple criminals in the civilian judicial system. I find it impossible that he ordered OBL to be killed rather than brought back and given a team of NYU lawyers at public expense, and the forum of a year-long trial in NYC to turn himself into a Muslim Messiah playing to the press and the Muslim world daily from his comfy cell.
It won’t surprise me if we begin hearing surprising things leak out about this operation, such as Obama not really being the one in charge, and indeed, it taking place without his complete knowledge or control beforehand. I’m thinking this may have been some sort of soft-coup within the White House. This is just too unlike Obama and everything he’s stood for in his short political existence. I’m curious who is really in control now.

I have seen a few people mention Osama used a woman as a human shield…this was reported but now the government has admitted it lied about that. Just like they lied that dropping him into the sea follows Islamic law.
It is also being reported that the DNA they had to compare against was bin Laden’s sister. If true that means we get about 90% certainty that they killed either Osama or one of his siblings…note that Osama’s dad had many children. If they had compared it to one of Osama’s children as well, that would have raised certainty to 99.9+% that it was actually Osama and not anyone else.
