Men Turning Their Backs On Modernity

March 7, 2013 by CH

Masculinized women. Feminized men. Witch hunts for white boogeymen. Enfeebling government largesse. Humiliating reeducation camps. Self-aggrandizing social media. Ruling class treason. Corn and porn. Hypocritical, status whoring SWPL leftoids robotically sermonizing about a diversity they spend vast energy fencing off from themselves.

It’s enough to make a guy want to say “Fuck it to all that.”

And some men are doing just that, before the diseased forces of modernity permanently infect their sanity. Commenter Dan at Mangan’s writes,

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a dozen years ago. It was not a misdiagnosis then. I was a mess with run ins with the police and mental institutions and a suicide attempt where my life had to be saved, while managing to graduate with honors from an Ivy league school.

Since then, I’ve had totally smooth sailing with stable marriage and four kids so far, a long tenure at a successful job, a nice house, large savings and so on, and some political activism while I tapered off medication almost completely.

Here are some lifestyle changes:
– Going from binge drinking to no drinking
– Going from massive caffeination to no caffeine.
– Going from lots of all-nighters to sleep every night
– Going from atheism to faith (if you are an atheist and not suicidal, you aren’t trying hard enough)
– Becoming conservative, not just politically but behaviorally
– Going from being the life of the party to being a bit square

When I changed, my friends said they wanted the old me back. Ha. The old me was mentally diseased and headed for a graveyard.

Mental illness likely has a genetic origin, but the particular ills of modern society — a recent innovation in human cultural ecology that is undoubtedly exerting powerful selection pressures on first world peoples that perhaps rival the great genetic selection events of the ancient past — could be exacerbating tendencies to psychological distress. Evidence is mounting all around us that Western people — whites especially, and white women the most — are unhappy, frazzled and dangerously delusional, even though they can’t quite put their fingers on the cause of their anguish and quixotic need for comforting self-flagellation.

Some turn to medication. Others, like Dan above, rearrange their lives in hopes of warding off the gray shroud of ennui. And they rearrange in a way that, intentionally or not, closely conforms to the kinds of lives that men led pre-postmodern America. They become less of what the modern society demands more of, and embrace the opposite of that which the modern society inexorably pushes one toward.

The men who turn their backs on modernity become less secular, less spastic with stimulants, less beholden to participation in the rat race, less burned out by digital addictions social or sexual, less political, less engaged in media-fed triviality, less liberal (yes), and less status-conscious. They may even become less sociable, as it seems a precondition of eschewing the trappings of modernity is a willingness to ostracize oneself from the hedonist herd.

This is not a lifestyle choice for everyone. Some of us like our freedom and sexual cornucopia, and can better manage, or compartmentalize, the peculiar stressors of secular modern society. But many people would find much comfort and peace of mind by essentially flipping the bird to the trajectory that the West is currently on. If you believe that maximizing human happiness is a noble goal, then you wouldn’t stand in their way.

Excellent post, CH. I can see a lot of those self-destructive behaviors in myself, but I’m working to change them.

      lzozozozolzolozoz

in bloated william bennet’s “book of man,” he leaves out the heart and soul of western civilization. a better name for bennet’s book would have been, “the book of fanboy manginas.”

jesus battled with the old, pedantic, dead-souled scribes in matthew 23, for which he was put to death. king leonidas had to consult with the corrupt, rotting, old counsel. in braveheart robert the bruce’s corrupt father had a face of rotting flesh. bill bennet reminds me of all of these, after a seven-day vegas-bender whence millions of fiat dollars, earned from an insincere, copy-and-paste “book of virtues” were gambled away.

ye shall know them by their fruits, it has been written, and bill bennet is the godfather of all the debt and debauchery–of all the divorce and destitution–of the incessant asscocking, buttcocking, and desouling of the culture and currency–of the false, fiat virtues he is paid fiat dollarz to espouse and promote as the hollow man blimps up on CNN.

bennet ignores the central, exalted message of genesis, and then ups the ante (as a gambling addict) by debauching and debasing the iliad faster than a neocon can debase a dollar to fund the perpetual warfare/welfare state. to top it all off, bennet ignores the most-decorated war veteran of all time in his “book of fanboy manginas.”

completely absent from bennet’s book is the awesome work of the jews in genesis:

14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

in the classical, judeo-christian, chivalric context, a man would man up as he would be guaranteed a non-asscocked, chaste woman who be shamed out of not acting on and serving every gina tingle and butt tingle. instead of serving her butt and gina tingles, a woman would be expected to serve god, man, and family. for this, she would be honored in a civilized context, and she would realize her greater mythology as a mother, wife, and grandmother, instead of an asscocked, aging spinster with cats, working to expand the fed’s debt alongside her ass.

completely absent from bennet’s book is the divine RAGE of ACHILLES–the very center and circumference of homer’s iliad. the first word of the iliad is RAGE, as achilles is robbed of his prize and property by his commander; and so, his anger ignited, achilles quits the greek army in the first showdown between man and state. zeus sides with achilles, exalting the Natural Law that John Locke and Thomas Jefferson would someday exalt in their respective poetry–the very same Natural Law that Moses exalted when he rebelled against the corrupt Pharoah–the Natural Law that William Bennet detests in all his blundering ignorance regarding the monetary system which robs the common man and places future generations in debt to send today’s best and brightest to die on foreign shores in foreign wars. achilles rages as he reasons, “if i’m the one fighting, doing all the work, why are you–the king and his william bennett vegas cronies who never ‘buckle on armor’ getting all the rewards?” indeed, so might a marine wonder these days, if he’s taking all the risks for a few hundred dollars a month, why does bill bennet get to sit back home in vegas, gambling millions away while ballooning up like a big old blimp of debauched, foul hot air? so it is that bill bennet is working for the fiat bankers in all his blustering, bloating books, which serve far more to debauch and desecrate–to contort and confuse–than they do to exalt and enlighten. why isn’t bill bennet telling all the army-wives to “woman up” and stop with the buttcocking adultery, and serve their men with loyalty as Yahweh commands them to, and as Penelope does in Homer’s Odyssey? It’s because bennet is well-paid in fiat dollar to hate on homer, the bible, and the honorable serviceman like ron paul, while bennett himself never served in any branch of the armed forces. CNN rewards him for his supreme ignorance of the spirit on the Great Books and Classics, which he makes his arrogance.

finally, bill bennet, who “never buckled on armor nor suited up for battle” in the words of achilles, also ignores the most-decorated general of our own era–the noble Smedley Butler:

      [quote]
“War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small ‘inside’ group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.”
In another often cited quote from the book Butler says:
I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.
[/quote] –http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Is_a_Racket –War Is a Racket is the title of two works, a speech and a booklet, by retired United States Marine Corps Major General and two time Medal of Honor recipient Smedley D. Butler. In them, Butler frankly discusses from his experience as a career military officer how business interests commercially benefit from warfare.

Compare warrior Smedley’s words to those of Achilles, who also questions the utility of war for the heroic soul:

      [quote]
Ulysses, noble son of Laertes, I should give you formal notice plainly and in all fixity of purpose that there be no more of this cajoling, from whatsoever quarter it may come. Him do I hate even as the gates of hell who says one thing while he hides another in his heart; therefore I will say what I mean. I will be appeased neither by Agamemnon son of Atreus nor by any other of the Danaans, for I see that I have no thanks for all my fighting. He that fights fares no better than he that does not; coward and hero are held in equal honour, and death deals like measure to him who works and him who is idle. I have taken nothing by all my hardships- with my life ever in my hand; as a bird when she has found a morsel takes it to her nestlings, and herself fares hardly, even so man a long night have I been wakeful, and many a bloody battle have I waged by day against those who were fighting for their women. With my ships I have taken twelve cities, and eleven round about Troy have I stormed with my men by land; I took great store of wealth from every one of them, but I gave all up to Agamemnon son of Atreus. He stayed where he was by his ships, yet of what came to him he gave little, and kept much himself.
      [/quote]

And so you see why the gambling, warmongering, chicken-hawk, mysandric, soulless Bennett is calling upon men to man up while debauching and deconstructing their heritage–it is because, at the fiat baneker’s behest, he needs the men to take all the risk, while bennet and the fiat bankers get all the rewards, celebrating their conquest of other men’s future wives with the famous buttocker and secretive taper of butthext tucker max rhymes with goldman sax, who the weekly standard casts as a six-foot tall hero, repeating the butthexer’s lies, while ignoring the true, selfless heroism of those Achilles and Smedley Butlers fighting and dying on foreign shores in foreign fiat wars.

In his later years, Thomas Jefferson wrote, “They all fall off, one by one, until one is left with Virgil and Homer, and perhaps Homer alone.” Jefferson advocated the gold standard and railed against central banks. Jefferson penned the Declaration of Independence. And so you can see that William Bennett is a Judas, selling out Jefferson, Virgil, and Homer, all for a few fiat dollars and short-lived fame. Nay–he is worse than Judas, as at least Judas was paid in Silver, while William Bennet is paid in fiat debt for his soulless, ignorant debauchery, which he gambles away as sure as tomorrow is a new day.

As time goes on, men will find a rebirth and renaissance in reading the Great Books and Classics lzozozozzlo

As time goes on, men will find a rebirth and renaissance in reading the Great Books and Classics in their original languages, or in translations penned before 1950. For the bible I recommend the KJVB, or, if you must, the NKJVB. The Judeo-Christian tradition contains man’s greatest assets–his greatest myths–the very souls and spirits of his exalted fathers–their trials and tribulations–their exalted advice on women, marriage, justice, money, and life. Beside your bible, keep a copy of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey and Socrates’ Apology, for you will find that they have far more in common than not.

The Bible begins with Moses’ heroic, physical journey–liberating his people from the corrupt King. On the first page of the Iliad, Achilles rebels against his corrupt King. Both Moses and Achilles appeared to exalted Natural Law–of Zeus and Yahweh–and tough Mill and Locke would expound upon Natural Rights millennia later, Jefferson referenced not Mill and Locke, but our Creator in the Declaration of Independence. Indeed–liberty’s poet Thomas Jefferson wrote, “As we advance in life, they all fall off, one by one, until we are left with Virgil and Homer, and perhaps Homer alone.”

So fellas, go forth and read Shakespeare and the Bible as the Men that You Are. Read Homer and Virgil. Exalt in your classical, Judeo-Christain Heritage, for it was paid for in blood, sweat, and tears, and then given freely, to you.

And as Dalrock points out in the above video, understand that you will be attacked–often to the degree that you serve the spirit of Socrates and Jesus who internalized the external voyages of Moses and Achilles and blazed the hero’s journey of the spirit–understand that you will be attacked and persecuted by the false prophets, pedants, scribes, and pharisees–by the state officials who wash their hands while the feminist scribes author your crucifixion.

And remember, that even Jesus lost faith at the end. After the chief scribes and pharisees persuaded the people to free the murderous sinner Barabbas and leave Jesus to die, in the same way they do today, Jesus asked, “My God, My God, why has thou foresaken me?”

One can easily imagine the following playing out in our own time, with the controlling feminist’s/woman’s/corporation’s/university’s/mob’s preference for the perverse and sinful–for the debauched and degraded:

27:20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas (the murderer/buttcocker), and destroy Jesus.
27:21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
27:22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
27:23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
27:24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
27:26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
27:27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
27:28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
27:29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
27:30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
27:31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
27:32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
27:33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
27:34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
        27:36 And sitting down they watched him there;
27:37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
27:38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
27:39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
27:40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
27:41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
27:42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
27:43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
27:44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.
27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Now think about that. Jesus Christ–the man who has single-handedly influenced and exalted Western Civilization and the World as no other, lost faith in God in his final moments.

Aye, but let us explore one layer deeper, as we realize that “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” is but the beginning of the famous Psalm 22:1:

22 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

We don’t hear the rest, as Jesus has passed through the other side, but yet, we know what Jesus is saying, as we continue on in Psalm 23:

23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

What this means Men, is that as long as you hold true to your ideals, the false prophets and apologists have no power over you, neither in life, nor death. For as Jesus, the King of Ideals stated, “My Kingdom is not of this world.”

Thanks again to Dalrock and Heartiste for bringing those classical, exalted ideals to life with with and humor, day in and day out.

I’m not 12. Going down on a woman is the first step to putting that shit on a pedestal. It’s supplicating to the pussy; if you’re going down to get her off or “prime the pump”, then you’re totally doing it wrong.

I kinda feel like that too, but the only problem with that viewpoint is that it may not really become a post-catastrophe America in a few years, maybe even our lifetimes. More likely, the decline would be very long-drawn and the opposing forces would still be powerful for a long time.

Crack Up Boom hear we come.

But Ray’s point is valid as well – Rome took hundreds of years to fall, etc. I think we’ll see the US fall last, since we have everyone else by the short hairs. That’s what happens when you are the world’s largest debtor.

Mike, I have considered profiteering in this market. But I am unsure that what is sold now can ever be repurchased.

I think ammunition may become so scarce and expensive just because of this ideal from the left.

I also have reloading equipment and supplies to make my own as well. I think that will be known as a very wise investment in the future.

This is a very valid criticism.

The old Bogart joke applies. He was found gambling in LA at an underground casino that was known to be corrupt/fixed, and when asked about it he replied “Well, it’s the only game in town.”

Point is, our current economy is literally make-believe. We are in the proverbial “bending down in front of the steamroller to pick up quarters” “investment” market right now. Will it persist? Perhaps. Ask Mr. Taleb – whatever occurs, it will be a Black Swan event that the existing big players do NOT want to happen.

So, bet on the House. Or bet against the House. Or do both. Your choice. So far, I’ve bet on both, and that’s largely worked out for me (AAPL is bashing my brains in, but other investments have worked well). I may change my view at some point. But keep your powder dry, as we are heading into an opportunity that has not occurred in decades.

Gunslinger, there’s another way that that happens. We mess with markets and debase our currency to the point where the welfare checks don’t pay for anything anymore. If you think this can’t happen, realize that it already HAS happened. We fvcked with the price of corn and with the dollar so much we raised food prices 15% and ended up causing the “Arab Spring” halfway across the world. Next time, the effect might be local.

All that has to happen is for the ATM’s to go down for a week or so, and the mail to stop running for things to go critical in a very short order. Once the freebies stop flowing from such a scenario it will get ugly very quick. And if you think the cops will be there, think again. They will be at home protecting their own.

Wisdom dictates that you start trying to become self-sufficient, and realize your environment. What will you do if the power goes out or the water from
your tap is no longer potable? Have you ever stopped to think about what you would do in such a case?

Currency devaluation. How long do you think this ponzi scheme can continue? What will you do when you go to the grocery and a gallon of milk is $20 and produce is practically non-existent, and very dear if it is there?

There are a lot of conspiracy theories and tons of disinformation, especially from the MSM. What should you believe? That is up to you. I just know I refuse to have my ass blowing in the wind when whatever decides it wants a chunk of it.

Regarding the “dating profile” jokes, I think that’s not far off.

Gunslinger (and I) use Soylent Green as a punchline (I know I do it often). Remember that in that movie there was a woman living as essentially a concubine in exchange for security and food. Of course, Heston shagged her for free for all the reasons we on this site already know, but that’s a bit beside the point.

Also, as Mike suggests, it’s equally possible the future is gonna have more “Omega Man” than “Soylent Green”. Yipe.

Hopefully the balloon never goes up, but looking at the charts I see almost every day on Zero Hedge, I find it difficult to see how that balloon ain’t gonna go up in my lifetime.

Living in a rural area keeps me somewhat in a bubble. The only upside to the downfall is that women may find it easier to edit their checklists. Kate et al, Soylent Green is a decent but dated movie. The premise was essentially Malthusian – that we would over-populate the world and run out of food. The government steps in and supplies the populace with “Soylent Green”, a food that they manufacture. The main character, Heston, finds out how Soylent Green is made. Let’s just say if you’re worried about horse meat in your Swedish meatballs, you’ll like the contents of Soylent Green even less.

I use Soylent Green as a punchline to my posts because the essential truth of the film is that when you have a government that treats you like a resource, the outcomes for you as an individual are to be expected (e.g. not good). This story repeats itself everywhere we allow government to become our masters. And it seems like this once proud, independent nation is going to go the full magilla and finish what we started in the early 1900s and go full tyranny.

“Communism” and “Socialism” killed well over 100 million people in the 20th Century. But hey, when we do it, I’m sure it’ll be different. What could go wrong?

The flagship atheist Richard Dawkins seems to have a particular distaste for Christians/the bible while spending far less energy being active against radical islam, which actively compels followers to kill. The crusades are long behind us, modern day Christians are on the whole pretty peaceful. If Dawkins wasn’t a pussy, he’d spend most of his energy attacking Islam.

Richard Dawkins has encouraged the bible to be taught in school as a historical and cultural reference.

Something I really respect about him is that he said that it is best to promote the conversion of africans to Christianity in order to save them from Islam because atheism cannot make inroads in africa anytime soon.

Dawkins actually is no post modernist and does stand for western civilization above all. Hence, he does actually recognize the cultural virtues of Christianity.

The founding principle of Christianity holds that the ability to prove anything – indeed, the ability to create frameworks within which the idea of “proof” can even exist and make sense in the first place – the founding principle of Christianity holds that that ability is an aspect of the Divine Nature Itself.

Point being that if you’re the kind of guy who’s interested in “proofs”, then you might want to take Christianity out for a test drive.

If I discover within myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.

Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance, the only thing it cannot be is moderately important.

        – Going from atheism to faith (if you are an atheist and not suicidal, you aren’t trying hard enough)

What do you mean, trying hard enough?  Not believing in the unbelievable takes no effort at all.  Given the number of believers who keep writing about their crises of faith, it looks more like the opposite is true.

God-belief may be an artifact of humanity’s ability to intuit intention in other people (understand “agenticity”, have a model of mind).  Given that, it’s just going to be a fact that some people aren’t going to come to god-belief naturally, or even at all.  For believers, it’s an inconvenient fact given that so many advances in our society rely on people giving up the god-explanation for things and looking for true causes.

[CH: Agree. Dedicated atheists have a big blind spot to the good that religion can do in mass scale societies. Think guardrails for the reckless.]

        But the guardrails don’t come a la carte, and the baggage of unquestioning belief and following authority is not without cost;

[CH: There is nothing in life free of a cost-benefit analysis.]

just ask all the hundreds of thousands of children buggered by priests over the history of the Church of Rome,

[Cite. (I know it’s happened, but I doubt the veracity of the claim of hundreds of thousands.)]

as well as a number of 20th century examples one cannot list without having the name of Godwin invoked.

[The three 20th century world wars — two hot, one cold — were not wars of religion. Just the opposite.]

[CH: There is nothing in life free of a cost-benefit analysis.]

Indeed.  Which should not stop us from making it.  Even if you subscribe to the Straussian concept that the lower classes need some force of organization to keep them properly socialized and directed, it doesn’t follow that religion is the only such force, or the best.

(I know it’s happened, but I doubt the veracity of the claim of hundreds of thousands.)

To get 200,000 you need 100 per year over 2000 years.  It would be surprising if the total was that low.

[The three 20th century world wars — two hot, one cold — were not wars of religion. Just the opposite.]

Weren’t they?  Shintoism worshipped the god-Emperor and demanded unquestioning obedience unto death.  Communism/Stalinism:  different ethic, same obedience with dissent punishable by fast or slow execution (labor camp).  You don’t have to look too far back to see similar excesses in Christianity, and Islam doesn’t just tolerate but exalts them.  Whatever provides the guardrails for the underclass needs them for its own leaders too.

C’mon man, don’t be that ridicules, Any organization in the world would have had much, much worst statistic than Church has over 2000 years of activity in every part of the globe. There simply is too many people involved in the Church, and reasonable person would have supposed that not all of them, during whole of it’s existence were good. It is estimated that around 0,5% of Catholic priests in the whole world are pedophiles, which is much less than in general population (around 1.5%).

What you’re saying is same as i would say: some of The red cross’s personnel had stolen blood reserves, since 1898 and thus red cross should be abolished, along with all of it’s principles.

        That’s not particularly intelligent.

I dunno, I practice Buddhism but was born into a christian religious family. I am pretty agnostic at this point but I can’t stand people who categorically dismiss religion because it can’t be proved. The only thing worse than religious zealots are atheistic zealots. The “I am so much smarter than you because I don’t believe in any diety” crowd.

Since I began practicing Buddhism, I abide by the “maximizing happiness” school of thought. I BELIEVE that at the very core of humanity, is this intense desire to be happy and an equally intense repulsion to discomfort (unhappiness). I believe that most people confuse the means to achieving sustained happiness. Many people believe it is found in gaining as much property and/or money. I believe it is simpler than that. As long as the basic level of sustenance is met i.e. food and shelter, we really don’t need much else.

Before I became a practicing Buddhist, I was the stereotypical designer whore. Everything I owned had to be “louis this, gucci that”. Don’t get me wrong I still buy those things on occassion, but I am NO LONGER consumed by the need to have it. I am in such a happier head space (and much better place financially) once I realized that all I really need is food and a place to live. I don’t compete with the “it’ girls anymore, I don’t have to know what Fall 2013 fashion trend is going to be….it’s a really awesome space to be in mang.

Hahah! I think this is exactly correct. Me thinks he doth protest too much!

Atheism is a religion. One cannot prove a negative – Atheists are going on faith.

I personally think it quite unlikely there is a God, and in any case am comfortable with the idea that He probably doesn’t spend any time worrying about/watching/judging me in my day-to-day, and I am absolutely positive that there is not a single of our current religions thats represent God faithfully (heh).

I am also quite sure I am not omniscient, so I could very well be wrong on all points.

I respect others’ faith, especially when they keep it to themselves. I dislike those who proselytize for Atheism even more than I dislike those who proselytize for the other religions.

I only like religions for the normative function they exert on the masses. But that itself is a two-edged sword, and can be quite dangerous. Jihad, anyone?

Thank you for seeing the distinction. If I had a nickel for every time someone conflated religion and faith, I could buy many Bernankified Dollars with those nickels.

Religion is man’s attempt to codify faith into a system. Faith just is – you have it or you don’t and it’s personal. I have much more respect for those that either have faith or like religion for its secular normative function and don’t try to tell me that their religion is personally sanctioned by Jehovah. The folks that think that their religion is the One True Way and is personally sanctioned by God… those people are Jihadis and probably mentally deficient and/or ill.

I disagree with this. I like it when religious people prosteletyze to me and it is healthy for atheists to try and shake people from their beliefs as much as possible. Why? Because this is what matters in life. Most of conversation I hear is about tv shows, celebrities and the weather. The mormons that come try to convert me on the street and richard dawkins are people that think about the greater questions of life. What is life? Why are we here? What should morality be based on? These are worth thinking about.

American society in particular encourages religious feelings to be kept private. I guess that’s so we can all get along or something. I prefer the society where we all feel free to speak to our neighbors about what we believe and why.

The christians that try to convert me in order to prevent me from going to hell make sense to me. If that’s what you believe, it makes sense to act upon it and try to help my soul. Likewise, I very much appreciate the Bill Mahers and Richard Dawkins of the world who explain why religion does not make sense.

Sometimes I see idiot brainwashed women wearing full burkas. I wish people would constantly go up to them and make every possible argument about why their grotesque barbarian pedophile worship farce of a religion is horrible. Yet, we leave them alone out of a foolish sense of tolerance.

People who express their beliefs publicly and debate them help the spiritual development of mankind.

Hey dumbass–the fact that you cannot prove a negative is exactly why there is no god; it is the mystic religionists who choose to blank this fact out and then dance around it, not the atheists. Because you cannot prove a negative–that is, because no absence of evidence can ever be presented as a positive validation (there can be no evidence for something that does not exist)–the atheists are correct and the mystics are stuck back in the dark ages.

But so are the so-called “secular humanists” of the left, who present their material religion of collectivism as allegedly based on reason and logic (they are anything but rational and logical). Collectivism is as equally ancient, primitive and barbaric as religion–but it is YOUR defense of individualism on the grounds of mystic faith that allows the Marxists to pose their shabby religion of collectivism as somehow “progressive and scientific”.

As for me, I am a far-right passionate defender of individualism, capitalism and freedom solely on the validation of reason, rationality, and logic–and I’m also an atheist. Objectivism FTW

So, for the sage person that calls me a dumbass, let me illuminate. Nothing you’ve said in your post refutes anything I’ve stated, and in fact I agree with the principles of Objectivism. Nothing I have claimed, suggested or proffered defends individualism on the grounds of any sort of “mystic faith”. I think mysticism is fun, like I think paying for a palm reading is fun, and it is equally valid (which means it is NOT).

As an Objectivist agnostic, I have run into your kind many, many times. Your logic does not hold. My points are:

        1. Building a religion on an idea that cannot be validated is … err… sorta dumb, no?
        2. We cannot know all of the workings of the cosmos in our current state of humanity and knowledge of the universe.

So…. feel free to agree with me at any time.

I recognize that folks sometimes want to do the “my Uzi weighs a ton” argument, but frankly it’s just sort of small and sad. If you have the floor and have the facts and have the nuts, the day will be yours. Let’s see it. Otherwise, recognize that there may be a god, but we don’t know, and in any case He’s not a personal God, and in any case none of this is relevant for our lives.

Ow, please explain the Universal Moral Law, and how you came to know it. Further, please explain the steps you took to validate it, and your findings on this validation fact mission.

OK, that was intended to be snarky but also a real question. As someone who has gone down this rabbit/worm hole countless times, I know you can’t answer these requests.

So, what you have is a faith. That’s cool for me. This is why I object more to Atheists than those who believe in God, because Atheists state that they’ve looked at the science/numbers/whatever and have concluded there is no God, whereas religious/faithful people state that they believe in God.

An Atheist cannot prove that there is no God. He can theorize that there is no God, and perhaps make a convincing case that there is no God. Yet he will claim that his science makes his case irrefutable. Which is a logical fallacy.

A Faithful person will tell you they can prove there is a God, in which case I will ask to see the proof (I am still waiting). Or they will say they believe that there is a God, in which case I will state without sarcasm that I wish I had their faith, as it would be a tremendous comfort.

P.S. Thanks for the kisses, Legion. May Christ be with you as well.

There is no evidence, and there will never be, that the world strictly operates on logic. It most probably does, but we will never have these scientific proofs.

Ha! This is good stuff. But recognize that there could be something prior to the Big Bang without disproving God, and also without proving God. The Big Bang is only the beginning of what we perceive as “reality”. In “reality”, the Big Bang could be “restart no. 4,231” or some such. And, all of these “important events” (for us) could be mere flights of fancy of some being much more intelligent than us (e.g. “not real”), or could be a computer simulation (who made this computer?), or could be …. we can go on forever.

I think for us meat machines in this “reality” in this current known multiverse and at our stage of development, the Truth is probably unknowable. And so instead of fighting bloody wars amongst us about runestones and the cryptic ravings of possible/probable lunatics, we should cleave to those ideas that give us comfort and impetus and which promote our tribe’s advancement, and leave it there. And the ideas of other tribes will compete (Reason vs. Religion, Christianity vs. Islam, etc.). Nobody said any of this would not mean blood.

For me, the only “truth” for us is the moving of our DNA further along the time-space line that we perceive. And that Danzig both rocks and is unintentionally hilarious.

But anyway this just shows that religion is indeed a solid crutch, and people turn to it when reality makes them weak. Most people are by default mediocrities of spirit, so perhaps we need some kind of religion to keep the masses from collapsing into despair.

Weird that you mention them – recently I was driving out in the middle of nowhere, on an old country road, when I stumbled upon a group of several hundred folks gathered in a big old field at what turned out to be a Sons of Confederate Veterans turkey shoot.

I stopped and parked the car and got out and walked around in the dark and ate some food from the concession stand and had a blast [no pun intended].

And I never felt so safe in my entire life – everyone was standing around with a shotgun in hand [even most of the chicks], and yet you knew instinctively that they were all pro-life and that none of them would harbor any desire to so much as harm a flea.

Anyway, just this afternoon I was thinking about starting an SoCV chapter a little closer to my house…

Compare that to taking a stroll through West Philly where the people the Confederates “hated and despised” make up almost 100% of the population. I can tell you it’s not a nice place. Damn sight better to be black at a SoCV event than white in the hood. That should tell you all you need to know.

Probably one of the dumbest things I was taught in public school was that the Civil War was about slavery rather than declaring once and for all that the Constitution was just a piece of paper and if the president felt like he had a good enough excuse he didn’t have to listen.

Slavery was already on its way out, being replaced with migrant workers. There were perhaps a handful of large-scale plantations in the South. Most slave ownership was 1:1. Was it wrong? Yeah. Was setting up the impetus for all tyrannical expansions of US government for all future events morally worse? Well time’s going to tell on that one.

        Industrialization killed slavery.

Unfortunately for the South, England and the Northern U.S. had the kind of land that worked much better under then-contemporary industrialization rather than slavery, whereas the south’s land was to a large extent only viable for slavery-based economies.

That meant the English speaking world’s dominant culture, as well as half of its own country, was against the south. They could afford to get on their moral high horse about slavery because they could be viable without it.

Nobody was every a huge slavery fan. But it was necessary for most cultures to grow and thrive until industrialization could stop it.

But those asses who get on their moral high horse about slavery and pretend those who had slaves were evil to the core are just small-minded, low-intelligence cult members

Not sure how to file this – but:

    A) Become a father, and

    B) Not just any father, but the father of a massively powerful hyperactive special-needs little boy, who basically requires 24×7 supervision, and

you will progress from being a died-in-the-wool fire-n-brimstone palecon to something a little closer to The Prince of Darkness Himself.

Also, you come to realize that the Frankfurt School has inserted itself into EVERYTHING.

Every God-damned aspect of our lives.

    AoSHQ talked about this yesterday:

    http://minx.cc/?post=338147

Try watching five minutes of the ceaseless barrage of odious anti-White anti-American anti-Western anti-Christian propaganda on Sesame Street, and if your head doesn’t explode [leaving little pieces of your brain stuck to the ceiling] then you will feel compelled to run screaming out of the house, heading straight to the nearest branch office of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, and asking them how you should go about volunteering your time for the cause.

I like the direction Dan is headed. There’s something so refreshing about simplifying your life in this way. I married a beautiful young girl from my church, have a kid, another on the way, own a home on a quiet suburb, work a simple, stress free job. Have a small handful of close friends. My Christian faith is an important factor. I keep everything really simple, and i love it. This kind of straight edge life is really quite nice if you can manage it.

This is an excellent post. You’re probably one of the most traditional men around, oddly enough.

I sought and maybe gained some meaning in me life with travels, friends, and love, but there is nothing like the spoils of the traditional life we are biologically geared for.

I would advise people to avoid the suburbs though- small towns and city centers (white ones) are much more rewarding- and the smaller living space does not allow you to get too bogged down with material nonsense.

What we hate and loathe is the cesspool western societies are turning into. Accepting that it’s not brave, but foolish at best and utterly degenerated at worst. It’s not a problem of liberals vs. conservatives, but of a 80% of the population being brainwashed by the mass media to accept the destruction of their culture and their own extinction.

It doesn’t take a tinfoil hat to follow the money.

Find and read the history of the Federal Reserve System, and then find the exact same “globalist” players funding the Bolshevik Revolution. Same “internationale” investment houses show up in time to fund and equip Nazi Germany, and after their pleasant little exercise in mass murder called WWII, create the 2nd version of their failed League of Nations, which unfortunately flopped after their similarly orchestrated WWI. Examine the history of The (Cabalist/Masonic) Order, and you will see the orchestration goes back much further than the UN. Agenda 21 comes from the same cult, so I expect it will be similarly murderlicious.

Men turning their backs on modernity is unquestionably a good thing, since “modernity” is actually a global slave system. Free Texas!

        Agreed,

The mass media has rendered democracy obsolete; which is not necessarily bad, because any political system which gives power to the great mass of lemmings is doomed to failure in the first place.

Party politics is nothing but a cleverly designed puppet show designed to bluff the sheep into thinking they control their country, while behind the scenes oligarchs exercise the real power. How serious an individual takes party politics is my main litmus test for determining whether a person is capable of independent thought; it depresses me how few pass.

Modern democracy is actually an ingenious system for any tribe of elites looking to subvert a nation because it allows them to exercise power from behind the scenes, and at same time allows them to escape responsibility for how they use that power. It is very difficult to hold the puppet master accountable when the great mass of the population doesn’t realize he there pulling the strings.

80% is a low estimate. I’d say 95% of the population is brainwashed by the media, and although many of them are growing disillusioned, they are to emotionally invested in the marxist worldview to let it go. It amazes me(and depresses me) how fast most people shut down their minds and swallow the blue pill when confronted with information which deconstructs their marxist illusions.

Once again require CH advice and would appreciate sincerity b/c this is really bothering me. Went on a cruise a week ago. Before I left, have been hanging with a girl for approx 2 months. Get back, last night is the first night I see her since. I made out with a few chicks on the cruise, nothing more. Even if I didn’t do anything on the cruise she had it in her head that I did. So she keeps asking me about it. A friend on the cruise, who has a score to settle with me, might eventually tell her anyway so I just tell her.

She tells me to leave, I do. Come back 10 minutes later she lets me in, crying. She basically says she needs some time and that I’m just like every other guy, etc. Her old BFs were all assholes. My question is…where do I go from here?

No contact, contact in a day, flowers in 4 days. I’ve heard varying suggestions. I feel really bad about this and really want this to work.

[CH: If she let you back in, she still wants you. The “time” she needs is a face-saving maneuver. No contact for a week. If she doesn’t reach out, send a perfunctory text about something random and innocuous. Gauge her reply.]

When she was crying she said she had “assumed that since we were spending a lot of time together I wouldn’t do anything” The only reason I didn’t keep denying was b/c there is reason to believe I could get called out later, which would be a huge burn. John,

I couldn’t figure out how to link the article so i’ll just copy and paste it. I think the last 3-4 paragraphs can help you out tremendously.. Although CH’s advice “act like everything is normal” is golden..

        (Credit to: solvemygirlproblems.com)

“Both sexes are guilty of it; to filter their perception of inter-gender dynamics through a lens skewed in favor of their own sex. The affect is more profound for men, because women, who function intuitively to a much greater extent, are more likely to auto-correct their behavior as an interaction progresses. Men, with their logically grated minds, are more likely to nurture distorted perceptions because they can be rationally justified.

A reader once commented here saying that he “fucked up badly” because his girlfriend found a secks tape of him and an ex from the past. He apologized vehemently and then came to me for advice. I didn’t tell him at the time, but I laughed at the thought. Can you imagine if James Dean’s girlfriend found a secks tape of him and another girl? She would beckon for an opportunity to star in a tape herself to outdo her competitor. Which brings us to our first misconception. Women do not suffer any biological consequences from cheating the way men do. Monogamy is enforced through cultural stigma and men tend to forget this. Like I said above, because it is within the very nature of men to want to OWN their partners for paternal assurance; it is much easier to condition them to think women function the same way. It is never a turn-on for a guy to see his girlfriend flirting with another guy. It might incite jealousy, which could provide a much needed boost in passion; but it will never literally make him see her as a higher value partner. It is, on the other hand, one of the greatest aphrodisiacs for a girl in a committed relationship to see that her boyfriend/husband is at least capable of acquiring other partners. It appeals to her hypergamous nature by assuring he is of high reproductive value and affirming his congruency.

When you show off your loyalty to your girlfriend – you are incorrectly assuming that she sees the world the way you do. Loyalty is not a “turn-on” for women the way it is for men. It is the opposite, it only risks that she may lose attraction because you are indirectly starving secksual tension. Does this mean you should cheat? No. But it does mean that a sense of misplaced loyalty will harm your relationship much more than help it. What’s worse is, due to the conditioning noted above, you’ll likely backwards rationalize it and pat yourself on the back for being “loyal even when she’s not.”

This whole issue begs the question of what exactly men should apologize for. I see far too often that a guy thinks he “fucked up” for something that actually HELPS his relationship, or overly exaggerates his mistake because he thinks of how HE WOULD FEEL in the same position. Yes, if you found a secks tape of your girlfriend, you wouldn’t be happy. But this isn’t “do unto others what you would have them do to you.” This is social dynamics; and men and women, for better or for worse, operate differently. It is a fact of nature, and no amount of lobbying and conditioning will ever change it. Mask it – yes. Bend it – maybe. Change it completely – Never.

How would you have handled the situation above? A more appropriate response would’ve been:

“We were young, crazy, and in love. Can you blame us?”

instead of “ZOMGG IM SOOOO SORRRRRRY. IT WAS A MISTAKE. I TRIPPED AND TURNED THE CAMERA ON. I’M A PERVERT. I’M A SICK SICK MAN. I’M SOOOO SORRY.”

Remember your partner will mirror your emotional state. The more you apologize, the more the both of you consent to a frame that says you fucked up badly. The more you agree that your secksuality is something to be demonized, the more you let that become truth. If you get into a fight and she pulls the “you’re crazy” card on you, you shouldn’t come CRAWLING back to her agreeing that all men are psychotic assholes. Have some dignity, for your own sake.

The James Dean example, while somewhat ideal, serves to illustrate how important frame control is. In a world where you lack it, you concede to the popular Frame. The one of the Matrix. The one that dictates you are a bumbling fool and that making a secks tape with an ex girlfriend is only something a secks-crazed maniac could do. But hold your own state, and it’s just something young and crazy people do when they’re in love. She thinks it’s uncompromisable? Tell her you must not be right for each other then.”

Beware her friends. They’re likely going to be batting for the other side in this situation. There’s nothing girls love more than instigating drama and throwing emotional circle-jerk slumber parties (we’re always here for you baby!weloveyousomuch!!!!).

Avoid contact with them as much as you can. If you’re in situations where you can’t avoid it, be polite but say nothing more than is socially required. Do not talk about the girl, even if the friend brings it up. Common mistake is to fall for the “we’re rooting for you” ploy that most girls will use with the guy. They’re not. They’re trying to fuck you around.

Stick it out, spend more time at the gym and out with friends. Best way to wait it out is to go on with life. If she’s stuck mourning and you are out like everything’s normal (and actually meaning it), it carves in cement whose smv is higher than whose.

If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out. The good news is that you’re running hot off a relationship and there’s nothing girls love more than a freshly loose man (except for a taken one).

diferentiate yourself by letting her know that your balls so huge that you will let her know when you want to fuck another bitch you don’t sneak around you don’t have to

a chick that got cheated on like that is damaged goods for sure though
depends on what you want really ideally if your not looking for marriage tell the chick that and then she won’t be able to wrap you emotionally and have you around her finger
the question is what do you want out of this chick?

DO NOT SEND FLOWERS. I REPEAT DO NOT SEND FLOWERS.

She wants you back. Give her distance, do NOT contact her for like 10-14 days. Let her miss you, see what her life is like without you. She will probably even send a text first or call. Maybe she wouldn’t, but there is nothing to lose and everything to gain (she will see you as a guy with options, increased value etc)

      From a girls POV, two things that would make the situation worse than it already is;
1)Flowers or any I am sorry gift really
      2) constant communication via phone or email

You still have a shot…for sure.

I am only 30 and I can’t stand modern anything.

The music is pathetic: male singers are all pussy-shipped whiners (even their voice makes my skin crawl) and female singers seem to only sing variations of two songs: the angry-bitch-dont-need-man song and the bitch-in-heat-fuck-me song.

Tv shows are no better: male-basing, retarded plots and the obligatory know-it-all grrrl power strong woman character that is always shown beating up a guy twice her weight. Ugh!

Modern movies make me want to puke. Even James Bond got turned into some gay loser.

The news are the worst. Journalism is dead, long-live state-sponsored pro-government propaganda of the infotainment-government complex. Thanks god for bloggers!

I swear I want to block all modern media and just go back to 60s / 70s. In a way, I already did: my music collections is disco, my movie collection is full of vintage movies and I don’t have a TV. Aaaah! Feel better already 🙂

Men are even gayer back then. The cheesy disco music are not even half as awesome and hardcore as the dubstep/hard trance/epic instrumental we’ve got today. Heck even the Vietnam war isn’t as violent as the Afghan war. The VC didn’t even have the gut to crash planes into US building. Video game is no competition.

Also, in the 70s, there’s no wikipedia, google, and all the awesome website that teaches me advanced-level Maths, Physics, programming, dancing, fitness, cooking, and pantomiming, for free, with half the time you’d need if you’d learn them in the 70s. That 9/11 thing is of trivial importance compared to Vietnam war. Vietnamese died in millions, and killed about 60 000 Americans. Now compare that number to 7000(seven thousand) that were killed by Talibans altogether.

Hitting planes into buildings or anything like that on American soil just wasn’t their thing. Plus how brave it is to hit civilians. Vietnamese fought against soldiers, on the battlefield, not against civs(well they did them too if they were directly involved in war effort in Vietnam.

Number of death is trivial detail; humans reproduce faster than rats. 1000 deaths of strangers and 1000000 deaths of strangers pretty much cause the same emotions of vague sadness and sympathy in you, and much less grief than 1 death of your friend/family would. Event is the thing of importance.

The 9/11 is the culmination of what has been started in Afghanistan around the same time as Vietnam war. What did the Vietnam War culminate into? Countrymen killed each other until a group of countrymen ruled over the other group of countrymen. Just more deaths, of those strange asian men that you ultimately don’t give a shit about.

Killing defenseless civs is one thing. Killing civs well protected by the world’s best national defence is courage.

And fyi, the VC isn’t above killing civs residing in South Vietnam, particularly those with great wealth….It’s their things.

Look, let’s think something like 9/11 happened before beginning of Vietnam war. How would US react to that?
Hint: Lybia 1986. – probably a bit more than that but don’t expect something like Iraq or Afghanistan of 2000s.
Now how did it react to Vietnam? Why did it? There was massive threat emanating from that situation in SE Asia, and it did culminate into Cambodia, and Laos becoming communist states, and had real chances of even further culminating into communist Indonesia, and that would be a disaster, much greater than 9/11.

You yourself had made 9/11 to culminate into what it is till this day. You could have bombed the Afghanistan, send Navy Seals in to kill Osama once you locate him (and you would have, despite Taliban control), and pressure Pakistan to isolate Al Qeida, or persuade the Taliban to dislodge it themselves. But you did what sole standing superpower would do – surge in in a full force.

The man tends to be a product of the culture he was born in. When the man somehow personifies that culture, when he dies people say “he was a man of his time”. Religion acts as an antidote for that. The less secular man strives to be a man OUT of his time.

I don’t see what’s so bad about the lack of an afterlife. It would be like before you were born. Certainly a better and more logical outcome than most of the world getting flambéed for all eternity.

We’re not suicidal, by and large. If anything, the acceptance of our ephemeral nature lights a fire our butts. There’s no “turning the other cheek” or “the meek shall inherit the earth”. As materialists we grab life by the balls because we realize its probably our only life, not just an audition for the afterlife.

Heh, that may be before bad hits you in life.

While everything goes good in life, that is what you’ll think, and than you’ll “grab the life by the balls” but what when you actually fall into depression like let’s say Sartre? When everything that in that life to be grabbed by the balls looses it’s meaning, and becomes more hustle than it’s worth?

In my opinion Atheism is like a decay in your own bones, it stops you from fighting in desperate situations. If you have reason to live, than that may motivate you to continue fighting(kids, ideals that seem to be achievable in foreseeable future, whatever).

But the truth is all things in this life fail us, sooner or later ( that is – if we posses enough intelligence, to see it).

What is your motivation for this life?
Is it family? Genetic continuation of yourself? That i could understand; maybe.

Is it more like leaving something useful that all of the people will be able to use after you’re gone?

Don’t see why would i bother.
They come and they go, no difference in millions of the years behind us, or ahead of us.
All of the contribution that they might make, even if they change every imaginable universe (that there somehow is), what’s that good for?

They will never be satisfied with anything. They will never say that’s enough, they’ll always get use to that new achievement, and end up dissatisfied, and most of all in ennui. lol,

And even IF they would be satisfied, who da hell cares? Is all our effort in this universe just for us to be satisfied? Stupid.

Is it that thrill in this constant progress, that should be a motivator? That’s lame. But than again it’s observable that our inclination is to achieve unachievable: perfection. How is that instilled in us? Does that, where we’re heading exists?

The thing is that even if our race continues to exist for zillions of years, or dies out tomorrow, what’s the difference? If we survive… What than? Exist to… do what? Eat, fuck, sleep, survive. screw that, there must be more than that, but what is it?

All of our art(music, painting, sense of beautiful in general – as it is) is evolutionary irrelevant.

Sense of right and wrong. Why is that? Even babies have it(thus it’s not completely a social construct).

And simple questions like how comes that we and indeed many, many other species have developed the ability of sight, and audition, since they weren’t previously been aware of the radiation called light, and an oscillation of mechanical wave of oscillating pressure called sound(they might have felt the sound, but to understand it’s importance so much to develop the system of it’s detection, and continue to upgrade it to present level?) Ridiculous.

Hah, stupid bug eating vegetables. You have to see their mechanisms of catching the bugs. To be the bug eating vegetable, you have to firmly decide what you’re going to eat( because all these adaptations during evolutionary process must not be interrupted, or discontinued), than learn the behavior of the bugs i.e. know what will attract them, and even than, if you don’t understand them bugs, from million of possibilities you’ll never pick the right solution.
And this one chosen by them seems to be right on the spot, since bugs are perfectly attracted to scent.
Well this i think requires analytical thinking, and yet we “still” haven’t managed to discover the mere existence of their nerve system, let alone brain with intelligence capable of things like this.

Ah yeah, why does rose have thorns?
        – That’s easy – so that it can defend itself, of course!
        – And that implies many things that stupid plant can’t dream of actually having. it implies awareness, since it is aware of it’s predators. (and how can it be aware?) it implies intelligence as well since it “knows” that this is exactly what will stop predators from eating it. it implies analytical ability since it was in stance to analyze it’s actions and remark it as success – otherwise thorns would have been abolished. Go figure.

I don’t say this will surely convince you to became a Christian, since if anything arguments of this kind may convince you to became agnostic, or a theist instead of Atheist, but these surely can’t convince you to became a Christian, since you have to be touched by His Holy Spirit to be able understand that Yahweh is the God.

Christians who commit suicide go to Hell and burn for eternity. So do fags. That’s a lot to lose. Which is why all the Atheists liberals and gays (I repeat myself) think Christians are homophobic (It’s not homophobia, it’s pity) and it’s also the reason for the huge gay marriage push. Gays (the dudes at least) don’t really want to get married (otherwise they’d just accept civil unions) as much as they want to say “fuck you” to Christians. Back to your main question. Exactly.

I wish I had saved the link but years ago I read about a survey that showed that less than 3% of gays wanted to (eventually) get married.

Their war against the church has little to do with gay marriage no matter what they say about it.

And come to think of it that 3% of them who wants to get married is 3% of the 5% of the total population

That is about .0015% of the total population

To think gay marriage is considered a huge issue when it only concern .0015% of the population boggles the mind

Elections are lost and carreers destroyed because .0015% of the population whines loudly.

It makes it hard for me to like them or to like liberals

True meaning is being nihilistic about being nihilistic.

        >hedonism

Biologically speaking everything which motivates us is us wanting to get high. There is no escaping this except through self delusion.

Every begins as an unindoctrination atheist. No one is born religious. Any self choosing atheist who leaves religion I think is more free and able to be happy than someone who is willfully ignorant. Religion is a crutch which many who are not well enough educated fall on and use a tool to cope with reality. It can be used to self delude, but if you seek truth and not just comfort it is not enough.

There are no rules for those who realize that rules only exist for those who accept that they exist. Life has no meaning except for the meaning we give it. Embrace this, and go beast mode on life.

I can relate. My parents raised me with a lot of classic middle-class values; work hard, make something of yourself, be accountable for all your actions. So, when we lived in a more ‘diverse’ neighborhood I had a hard time relating to my fellow minorities. When my parents became more successful and we moved to a more affluent neighborhood…definitely SWPL…I also had a hard time relating to the people there. Wherever I’ve been, I’ve just been made to feel like that way of viewing the world is wrong. Most of the time I just feel like this vision of the world I’ve been sold on is a giant scam.

And yeah, in the adult world of ‘weak men are the meat that the stronger do eat,’ giving up seems understandable. But fuck that. I just feel like I owe it to my family and the progenitors of western civilization to use whatever I can to force this vision on the people around me. If that means learning this dark triad and executing…fine…that’ll just be my frame.

As a former serious hedonist and now a reformed and mild one, it takes a lot of will power and mental control to stay on top of your game if you’re partying like a rockstar 24/7. A lot of people lose sight of the fact that partying should be an occasional deviation from normality, not normality itself. We are here on this earth to develop as spiritual beings through overcoming the challenges we are faced with. Partying all the time just creates more challenges as the old ones pile up unsolved too. So yes, much of modern mental illness is environmentally related.

Its a matter of means and ends. All the various cultural marxist sub-fields, such as feminism, PC, multiculturalism, etc., are portrayed as ends in themselves. In fact, they are means to an undisclosed end, the destruction of traditional western culture and society.

That explains the various contradictions between the various cultural marxist sub-fields. It also explains why there is always a new cause. The goal post is continually pushed further down the field. Womens suffrage leads to womens lib leads to women in combat leads to yet something else; non-discrimination against homosexuals leads to gay rights leads to gay marriage leads to something yet more extreme.

As they say, we are the boiled frog.

You are correct. Avfm announced the second wave of the MRM yet I have just discovered it and nobody I know ever heard of it yet a chick I know has heard od PUA. Avfm also anounced that atheist men, gay men and women will be welcomed as the second wave is inclusive because the first wave was dominated by haters, conservatives and christians. So now its the MHRM not just the MRM but if you go to Avfm and say that the issues of gay men or atheist men aren’t your issue you will be banned as will all unwanted opinions. This can be seen in the thin comment section which is dominated by back slapping ” you go boygirl” and intellectual circle jerking. Talk about manufactured consent. Sounds like a coup to me. Organize a politiburo of the mrm and attract as many of the future opinion makers as possible. Focus on academics and those in the education system. Marginalize the working class and conservative voices as they are the ones tobe sacrificed on the alter of academic compromise.

My father was an atheist and he had no value system above himself. The only thing that mattered was what he wanted. Considring his experiences and where he came from its understandable. Adopted and incarcerated traumatizes a man. All other atheists I have listened too were cut from the same cloth, ” there is no one above me” or to quote directly ” the state gives me my rights.” Well they can also take them away. Without being religious but merely spiritual, our rights come from the creator at birth. This is the antithesis of the atheist progressives. I see an inclusive mRm as a divide and conquer strategy so that the mRm never attracts joe 6 pack and that the MGTOW/PUA remain alienated from the politiburo at Avfm.

I have been screwed over in my life but hate is not the word that describes my thoughts or feelings.

As Starets said, “the destruction of traditional western culture and society.” is the end game and we can see it all around us, all traditional institutions are under attack. The EU is an attack on nation states and their cultures. Cuntinism is the attack on the family as a political unit. Fracture it by divorce so that the voices of the men no longer are heard and society moves to the left as the marauding free shit army. Increase the lies and propaganda and cognitive disonance is the order of the day.

So in the future gay and atheist men will be the voice of the mRm. God save us.

I think that MGTOW/PUA is the libertarian arm of the mRm. I read about men trying to help individual men, encoraging them to be better men. The average guy will be excluded from the ivory tower circle jerk that is the liberal/left wing of the mRm.

Thanks to all. ROK, CH, Dalrock, Rollo et al

Yeah, atheism isn’t a choice. Either the religious premises satisfies one’s epistomological criteria or they don’t. I don’t choose not to believe. Somehow the calculation of “more likely true than not” gets made an a subconscious level.

In the big picture, its clear that the authority-based religions are no longer capable of providing guidance to one’s life. I’m not saying that as it pertains to my life, but in looking at the West in general. Its not due to some anti-christian conspiracy that christianity is waning. Hopefully this is a transitional phase to a higher moral and ethical ideal than the previous authority-based paradigm. Because if its not, we will be overwhelmed by the wombs of muslims.

Funny, but you seem to miss the point that the Christian God doesn’t force you to do anything. As a mater of fact, if you really bother to do the research you can thank Christian theologians for the idea of free will. Greeks, Romans, etc all looked at themselves as playthings of the gods. Just to show how messed up the evangelical atheists are, they are the ones today saying you have no free will. Everything you do is controlled by your genetics.

This post is kind of scary because I was thinking along many of the same lines. I was out with a 24 year old 8, with 9.9 breasts, and the evening was headed in the predictable direction of us hanging out at the bar until late, getting sloppy drunk, and them me banging her. And when I thought through the night’s likely trajectory, it wasn’t worth it. I just went home around 11 pm. The girl was shocked. She ran up to the door to try to give me a passionate kiss goodnight and I kissed her and left.

It made me question what it is deep down that I truly want when it comes to trying to pick up cute chicks. While they have to satisfy a bare minimum level of hotness to even be considered, I realized that after those prerequisites what I am truly looking for is VIRTUE. And I know its very very rare in american women. But absent female virtue, I would rather beat off to porn and then do my own thing than to waste my evening getting drunk, chasing tail that I won’t even appreciate, and then feeling like crap the next day because of the booze and regret.

Maybe this is giving up, or MGTOW. I’m not trying to make a statement or anything. I just don’t have the motivation anymore.

You know, many modern women are still capable of virtue, even if they aren’t raised to prize it. Most still hope to find a man who can teach them. There are so few places for them to learn virtue in this modern age. I’m proud of you for this. I’ve done the same a few times. Maybe this girl learned a lesson too about what is truly important. Maybe you should see what she is willing to learn? There is no virtue without human dignity. Respecting human dignity is the difference between a boy and a man. An animated fuck doll has no dignity for that purpose at least.

And what the hell is a virtue to you anyway? There are literally thousands of philosophy about what constitute virtue: from optimal desire (under which reasoning, fucking around IS virtuous, and if you fuck that fat old lonely lady, BROWNIE POINT) to will (basically, if you fuck instead of fap, because you want to, not because your partner/society/alpha friends expect you to, you’re virtuous) to duty (well, only fuck your wife) to abstinence (blue ball 4 life)

Just pick one that suits you

So you are finding out drunken sex is actually the short game, and becomes tiring. Good for you. Wisdom comes slow unless you are looking for it.

And you will never find a virtuous female at a bar or club. She is there the same as you are, for short-term carnal gratification.

You may as well be wearing a sandwich board that says, “I’m here for sex,” because that is the message you are conveying. The only way a woman attempting to be virtuous can go certain places and do certain things is with a squire. That’s what makes dating so fun: entrance to places you couldn’t normally go.

I had my gold bug moments, but now I do actually prefer stock and cash.

Gold is useless. Even bullion gold can be either stolen from you by a fascist government, or you can be an outlaw if you try to sell it the black market in a post-apocalyptic mad max scenario. Never once in History has a financial crisis led people to use only gold. In Argentina during the peak of their crisis, the few people who sold gold in the black market did it for CASH, while facing jail time.

You don’t want to buy too much land either. You then face the risk of being considered a kulak and being sent to the gulag or summarily executed.

It’s a crazy world and if you can’t sleep at night because you believe the apocalypse is nigh, best you can do is diversify, load up on guns and ammo, and make like-minded allies.

This was Burke’s point about most people living happier and more normal lives when they had rules and numerous social customs to govern daily life. Not a perfect system, but superior for the evolved human mind to the marxist system and certain forms of capitalism (notice I didn’t say free markets there) which treat humans as mere economic units to be manipulated for profit, or in the case of marxism, for a toys to be manipulated in a great leveling experiment.

Modernity, particularly the type embodied by the manic, self-hating, nihilistic survivors of WWI, sucks. It gifted us with the nastiest parts of the progressive era (eugenics, abortion, Hitler), widespread socialism (including sowing the seeds of the US’s destruction in the New Deal) and the absolutely invidious and destructive Frankfurt School of neo-marxism.

Good on ya, if you can navigate the shoals that modernism has put in place. With most of the cultural edifices that bound us together destroyed, most people seem to have trouble surviving (psychologically if not physically). Turning us all into little social atoms devoid of moral claims on our behavior or ties to others cuts us adrift from our moorings, the parts of society that evolved naturally to contain us, places in which we fit. Thus cut loose, some float. Some sink. Most bob along in the tide, partially swamped, not really sailing along quite as they’d hope, and wondering what the hell the problem is, and why their feet are wet.

You know what? Harry Anslinger was right. Pretty much all our civilization’s problems can be traced to weed.

    Obesity? Munchies.
    Passive omega males? Weed.
Intrusive government? Stoners willing to give up all their freedoms in exchange for weed.
    Dropping birthrate? Weed.
    Declining education? Professors smoking weed.
Grown men acting like teenagers when they’re old enough to be grandfathers? Weed.
Family life copying ghetto habits? Weed.

Back when men smoked fucking tobacco cigarettes and drank fucking Scotch whiskey we went to the Moon and beat the shit out of the Nazis. Whereas we’ve pretty much lost every war we fought since 1960 because of pussified stoners in the “peace” movement.

Want to restore manhood? Get rid of weed.

“If you believe that maximizing human happiness is a noble goal, then you wouldn’t stand in their way.”

I looked at the gallup survey results for self reported feelings of positive emotions, http://www.gallup.com/poll/159254/latin-americans-positive-world.aspx#2

This list is more reliable than a lot of human happiness indexes because it relies on the respondents perception directly.

It would seem that happiness can best be maximized by moving to a tropical (preferably latin american) country and chilling out. Going to an oil rich arab country is also not bad. And there are a few northern socialist countries near the top of the list too. Whether you are modern or not modern may not be the most important factor. Happiness is produced by reducing stress, workload and being able to enjoy nature. Singapore is probably a fairly culturally traditional society in terms of family arrangements (though not religiosity), but they are totally miserably. Probably because they are hyper competitive and status obsessed.

Some individuals may be made more happy by becoming traditional, but for the average man and general populace, I do not see evidence that a more traditional lifestyle and beliefs lead to greater happiness.

People like that commenter pretend to move into a traditional lifestyle while still being able to benefit from the benefits and risks of a modern society. If this man falls ill, he can be flown to a state of the art hospital. That is not an option for the Bhuatanese person in a genuinely traditional society. However, this man’s wife could leave him and take half his money and his children away. That is also not a risk for the man in a genuinely traditional society. If people live in a traditional way en masse, there is yet no example of them being able to sustain a prosperous society that offers modern technology and safety (barring a few oil rich arab kingdoms).

Much of what we value today isn’t as valuable as we genuinely believe it to be, so when reality hits the disappointment is profound.

Education comes to mind. Or, more accurately, credentials. The “psychological cost” is one of the 100 reasons NOT to go to grad school:
    http://100rsns.blogspot.com/

We delay life to get more education just like we delay life to prolong our bar-hopping years, or delay it to advance our careers. Then we wake up one morning with a nice degree and a nice condo and a nice office, but no kids.

Or sometimes we wake up and don’t even have the nice stuff, let alone a family.

Modernism is hard. The easy path is to stop trying to move forward. To pretend that a make believe god will step in and protect you, be there to console you when things go wrong and have a special place for you to go when your do-nothing life is over.

“The men who turn their backs on modernity become less secular, less spastic with stimulants, less beholden to participation in the rat race, less burned out by digital addictions social or sexual, *** less political ***, less engaged in media-fed triviality, *** less liberal (yes) *** , and less status-conscious. ”

Just makes me want to quite literally laugh out loud.

Being in high school, I see soooo many kids go on little depression binges all the time. I think the biggest problem in our society today is that people live for absolutely nothing but themselves. Kids reject Christianity, family, tradition, etc… and find that without those things, life is a pretty shitty thing. They just don’t connect the dots.

according to the great Maimonides, the path of the bible is very simple: no mystical beings, no imaginaning of things that God never created: it is the absolute walk unto the perfection, the most perfect that a corporeal human can be, which is feeding his mind, knowing more about his nature therefore making him closer to his creator; taking only what is necessary and nothing else, lest feed your corporeal body too much that you loose control of it.

Mental illness likely has a genetic origin
    ————————————————
Mental illness is a form of communication using socially disapproved symbols as a way of asking for help. This is happening more in our society as we increasingly treat adults as children and children as adults. See Korzybski’s theory of general semantics. For example, a psychiatrist once asked me after I overdosed on drugs if I heard voices – I told him I heard voices that I had a 15 inch penis. This shows the absurdity of it all.

Christianity need to go in the bin as it is founded on Jewish cultural practices and neuroses.

    *Turn the other cheek
    *Forgive those who wrong you
*Brotherhood of man (screw racial, familial and class allegiance)
*God as the eternal sadistic dictator whom you can never be free of even in death.

I am an atheist but my life isn’t pointless. It is dedicated to my own betterment such that I can raise my tribe (anglo-saxon and other europeans) above all others. To explore the universe and existence.

What is so meaningful about believing in god? worship? existence in heaven to do what?

Why do red pill Americans hate statism and leftism but love the god dictator and the ideological straight jacket that Christianity represents?

Turn on the other cheek – only when God requires you to do it – Lk 19,45
One sentence isn’t enough to explain this, also John 18,23.

Forgive those that wronged you – give another chance that is – but do not trust them until they prove otherwise Acts 15 37-41.
Forgiving them is liberating you. It is, since you won’t waste your energy on hating the one that wronged you, but will be able to concentrate your energy on here and now, and not on revenge or bitterness.

Brotherhood of man – It would be ideal to achieve that in Christian community, but fear not. It will probably not happen – it hasn’t so far and Europe is Christian for 1700 yrs, just now when Christianity has weakened this starts to happen. Go figure. Anyway those who believe Christianity to be true don’t have problems with it, since black or any other Christians should be upholding the same standards as any other christian, and not Ghetto rules or something.

God as eternal “sadistic dictator”. Well that God is giving you life, even you don’t give him any thanks at all. You and me are His image, and we ought to return to Him – that’s the state of affairs, oh yes you can be free of Him after death – it’s called Hell. Probably isn’t place where everybody just burns and that’s about it. Its main point is to feel the absence of God once He removes almost completely from you(which is not the case at present time).

If you believe it to be true, you can live with it. Not only that, you’ll see its beauty, especially if you were screwup in your life and than met Him in your life. Something best that there is – for sure!
If you can’t see it right now that’s alright, hope His Spirit will make you open your eyes and see beyond this reality.

You attest that your life isn’t pointless. Indeed it is not. You want the progression of your race, and power to you and your own… It’s just that in eternal perspective this agendas of yours are totally pointless. But who cares for the eternal, you are concerned with here and now! Well He offers you eternal in here and now.
There is absolutely no way for me to know what comes after death, but to believe what Holy Ghost who i can feel inside of me, leads me to believe, seems to me as the only viable option since I that was saved by Him not once, and that have witnessed His repeated knowledge of present, past and the future, would be fool if i wouldn’t believe what He instigates me to believe.

The things i’am talking about are beyond the comprehension to those that never experienced it, but i’m saying it so you would know He is the Lord, and that i have been delivered by Him.

If you ask yourself about the red pill folks, my bet is that they stick to what works. And Christianity even practiced as a shallow crust – as has been by most of Christians work better than atheism. And yes, many of them believe it to be true, and that’s why they accept it’s principles, at least by their tongue.

      Best regards.

The only hope for our society at this point is to embrace religion once again. perhaps not the ancients of the past but we need to demolish the moral foundations of the therapeutic society and set the stage for the return of the tragic view of history. Towards that end I am writing a screen play entitled Condoms are not romantic: Get out paying child support on june 15th!
    Act 1:
How America’s demographic and economic challenge’s can be resolved by paying women who have an IQ of 65 to fornicate in a public library bathroom at taxpayer expense instead of personal responsibility. A social justice sycophant argues the case that paying women in the present who have no money or job skills in the present to not live in the same house as the man she sleeps with will pay huge dividends. An opposing politician says instead “silly bitches single mom sluts can suck cock for school lunches” and that if the government did less everyone would have more including the unfit mothers of democracy that we absolutely have to care about no matter what……………………………

Religion is only “good” for societies because of the social safety net it provides; and this social safety net aspect of it is correlated with the dysfunction of the society like a sort of sociological-immune response. That is, religiosity increases in “gain” much like your body increases snot production/sneezing/fever when you’ve got the flu.

[CH: Secularism and areligiosity are on the rise at the same time the culture is imploding. There goes that theory.]

The analogy of religion as “good” for society being that a fever is “good” for your body because the high body temperature boils the infection. It’s much better to just not be sick in the first place.

[This is wonderful dorm room bs session abstraction, but the reality as confirmed by science is that religion does indeed help to dampen anti-social dysfunction among the lower classes.]

The form of social boding that religion creates is reproducible in secular contexts.

    [Among high IQ people.]

Absent the social bonding aspect, religion is no different than atheism.

[What religion doesn’t have a social bonding aspect? Satanism?]

Come on, CH. You have Overcoming Bias in your blogroll. You should know this stuff. Religion being good for society is a pernicious cached thought.

Marci shouldn’t drop her standards, instead she should improve her looks (she’s a beauty director at xoVain so she should know …), start reading CH (you should be nice to her, not write disgusting tweets suggesting that her self esteem is too high – it’s probably too low since she’s fat and depressed) and become more confident.

ps – how would you rate this writer from xoVain? 10? http://www.xovain.com/author/annie

She does have a point that an overweight woman is the equivalent of a beta male, BUT the overweight woman could have a chance with men she is attracted to if she loses the weight.

Don’t wory,q, with the new world order overweight women will starve because they can’t afford/aquire food and men will be forced to become alpha or die, so, finally everything will level itself out. Men and women will be attractive to each other again! 🙂

Why wait for the world to sort itself out when you can go to Somali to marry a harem of underweight women, or go to any farm to marry a huge dog who will teach all these wannabe-alpha a lesson about strength superiority. Dog’s penis is also bigger.

I really don’t get the knock on Atheism. The human purpose that religion serves is to give men hope. It is literally a construct in which we place faith because the emptiness of space and the meaninglessness of our existence is hard to take without the belief in a creator. I understand this, I can accept this. I’ve been on both sides of this argument plenty, so don’t think I’m new to it. I have nothing but respect for the decision to place faith in god (and that’s what it is, a decision), it is a fine choice to make and it offers a life of great hope.

However, I find it equally awe-inspiring to recognize how insignificant I am in the cosmos, while understanding that cosmos. I can accept the cold reality of meaninglessness, so long as I breathe and think.
    as Epicurus said…
“If death is, than I am not.
If I am, than death is not.
Why should I fear that which cannot exist when I do.”

Suicidal tendencies need not exist in the minds of the deeply atheistic.

There is no knock on atheism. If that is your game, play it, and shut up about it.

The knock is on pontificators of atheism who broadcast they are smarter than anyone religious and put down people who have faith as stupid and dim.

I personally am spiritual, and not religious. I do not push my views on other people, yet I am painted with the same brush as a religious zealot by these outspoken liberal idiots who think they know better for all of us, and think they have to tell us what to think and do with our pathetic backwards lives because we don’t think the way they do.

So the knock is actually on proselytizing? That’s fair.

this thread is old but I hope you see this. Before it was hijacked by religion spirituality was about the wonder that is existance on this blue spaceship.

I like your stuff, mostly. Seems I’m often looking in. Not you. Play the game some times. Confidence, it’s any easy trick. I alternate between temperance and modernity. I choose. But, the feelings of being an outsider come back. I am now old enough to see that they ain’t as Great as they think.

The United States will not fight another civil war; it will not collapse nor will its citizens be shoveling dollars into wheelbarrows to buy bread and milk; nor will the government, composed of men and women exactly like us, send assassins to our homes and execute us for holding opinions contrary to the dominant party. That is all fantasia.

These fantasies, however, derive from a deep instinct that has been stifled for too long: the need of men to periodically throw off culture and make war. Iraq and Afghanistan represent trivial, proxy conflicts, and though these conflicts were hardly trivial to the men who fought and died in them, they were nothing compared to the *real* war that must and will come.

When I read comments here about “stocking up on ammo” and making sure one knows how to render water potable when the tap runs dry, I think: be patient, gentlemen, because one day, soon enough, your aggression and ingenuity will have a real use.

To wit: North Korea, a nasty little nation state, now possesses a missile whose effective range very nearly allows it to strike US soil. I mention them only to bring to mind their near neighbor, China, which has every reason to seek war with the United States; which expands the authority and potency of its military with each passing year; and which, most importantly, has many missiles that can deliver nuclear strikes to American soil.

War is the fundamental way in which men come together to throw off our natural lassitude and force the species forward, because only war supplies the death pressure that forces us to solve the enormously complex problems involved in manipulating the material world, the world of mere things, which is the world that truly opposes human beings, and with which we are everlastingly at war.

So brighten up; another big War is around the corner, as it always quietly is.

This is just what you do as you get old more or less. Fanatics always gonna fan anyways but the rest of us find a middle way. I am a pig in shit at 43 with an LTR with a gorgeous, devoted 7+ and 2 wonderful kids. Bit of caffeine, bit of weed and blow and fine whiskey and wine. I fuck every day but I compromise on sexual variety, ie. get none. The potential blowback just aint worth it. I’m too happy. My poolside I guess.

Yeah, seems religion can help pacify a lot of people, if we can avoid religious wars and intolerance within a country.

I disagree that atheism must lead to suicidalness though. It just shows people want something outside themselves to just give them life meaning. Can’t think of making it themselves.
