ABC News “20/20” Segment On The Manosphere

October 18, 2013 by CH

The sensationalist news show “20/20” is purportedly airing a special tonight on “the manosphere”. Two completely unbiased feminists report from the internet trenches, where HATE MACHINE ÜBER ALLES!

Yeah, you can expect as much journalistic integrity from two liberal arts graduate vapid shell entities as you could from a Pravda copy editor with a gun to his head. At least the Pravda guy has an excuse.

CH may not rightly be considered part of the manosphere (our hearts will go on), but this news should interest the CH readership, which crosses over with sites commonly recognized as manospherian. Actually, the news should interest all sorts of non-manosphere readers as well, such as those from the peripheral HBD, PUA, dissident and rascally right, and neoreactionary spheres. Thus, I pass it along.

No doubt this “20/20” exposé will be unfair and unbalanced choir preaching to their fat frump female audience, but that’s largely irrelevant. The take home point is that RealTalk™ outposts are getting noticed by aristocratic Cathedral hacks nervous that their carefully manicured garden of pre-approved public discourse in which they frolic is about to get overrun by revolutionaries happy to take a shit on their marigolds. In response to the growing threat, they will smear and mock at first. And then they will roll over and die.

Pro Tip: The MSM leftoid juggernaut sets the frame and gets to define its enemies. This is, for now, the operating zeitgeist. The best way to win at that game is to not play. At least not on MSM terms, on their turf. But if you decide to enter the equalist arena to do battle, you should have a plan of action for reclaiming the alpha ground. This means, in practice, before you have answered any of their questions or even allowed them to ask a question, announcing for the world your assumption that your interviewers are incapable of impartiality.

“Before we begin, I really wonder if you can approach this subject matter with an open mind, like a true objective journalist. I mean, the mainstream media has a history of distorting the viewpoints of people they don’t agree with, and even lying to set the tone of debate. But maybe you’ll surprise us all by not immediately shouting “rape” when someone talks about legitimate topics that upset you.”

By preempting their attacks in this manner — airing their strategy of slander like dirty laundry — you weaken the effectiveness of their attacks when they want to deploy them later. It’s a classic reframe. Game can win over women and TV audiences equally.

PS For the record, CH has no opinion of Paul Elam, the main rep of the manosphere interviewed by “20/20”. Never read his stuff, so can’t make any judgment whether he’s a suitable spokesman or not.

When the media cover *any* story, it’s good to always keep in mind the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect.

“Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray’s case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the “wet streets cause rain” stories. Paper’s full of them.
In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.”

I can confirm this. I studied that field in school. Most of this comes from the death of a beat reporter who specialized. Also, reporters used to be smart, perceptive, and quick to learn. Now it’s career activists who have an opinion and want a microphone. The only positive is that the few males going into it that I knew would never confuse an AR15 with an AK47 much less an 870 due to gratuitous amounts of time spent playing Call of Duty.

Another culprit is the Dunning Kreuger effect wherein people with no experience in a field lack the expertise even to recognize their own sophomorism. They go about blissfully unaware of their own misinformed stupidity. It’s like getting lectured on the economy by somebody who doesn’t understand the basic concepts of interest, demand, and incentives.

Karamazov, please repeat. I was distracted… was too busy loading my “magazine clips” with “armor piercing” “cop killer” bullets. These magazine clips are for my “weapons of war”, as a part of my protracted fight against the cervine and porcine menaces. Or so the gungrabbers would say.

As for the 20/20 take-down piece, “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” – Mahatma Gandhi. I’m not a big fan of Gandhi, but this quote is dead-nuts accurate.

The purveyors of CommonSense™ and Truth™ at ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN/BBC* are having a tough time in today’s new media scape. Sadly, the seekers of real truth are also having a tough time, having to wade through the oceans of dross to get to the islands of veritas.

LS, To your point about Gell-Mann, “If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you’re mis-informed.” – Mark Twain

Loved the Crighton quote. I exhort everyone on this thread to read Crighton’s “Aliens Cause Global Warming”. It’s a fantastic speech.

Here! Here! That’s exactly right. Being a political insider, I can testify to the truth of this. A few years back, I was working on a little anti-fraud bill. For some reason, the cathedral got the notion that it would be bad for poor people. So they ran a firestorm of news stories breathlessly telling their readers about how poor people would be living in the streets, etc. etc. etc. Do you know how many “journalists” called me to confirm their facts?

Paul Elam does a good job of “representing” the manosphere because he is willing to appear publicly and be interviewed often. AND he is upfront about NOT “representing” the manosphere. He gives MSM journalists a clear explanation of manosphere issues. And he can be pretty Alpha and tell them nicely they are full of bull.

Lots of people complain about Elam, but hey, he puts himself way out there in public so he takes a bit of “center stage” by showing up.

        > “Never collaborate with MSM YKWs. Expecting fair treatment from them is like expecting a rabbi to oppose nonwhite immigration.”

The ONLY person in the last few decades who did it right was Gary Condit, in the Chandra Levy affair.

        1) A LIVE [not taped] conversation with a talking head [Connie Chung].

        2) NO commercial breaks.

        3) NO earbud piece, so that the “producers” [i.e. the YKWs] can’t scream the next question into her ear.

        4) Similarly, NO teleprompters, NO cue cards, NO director, NO NOTHING.

Just you, the talking head, a camera, and a live television audience.

Anyone who agrees to any sort of a tape-delay and an “editing” by the YKWs is a complete fool who deserves every ounce of Frankfurt School propaganda and disinformation which will inevitably be cut and pasted into the final version that is spoon-fed to the viewers.

PS: Were it I, I’d also insist on a contract which stipulated that 100% of the intellectual property rights to the interview belonged to ME AND MY ESTATE, and that the YKWs were renting the right to ONE AND ONLY ONE broadcast of my intellectual property.

Hrmmm… I too am uncertain about the CH comment of “not part of the manosphere”. Not sure if this is some self-selecting I’ve “evolved” past just that (which is actually true). Or some other angle.

Either way, I think very few would question this places involvement in manospherian ideology over the years. But where you go completely off-script and more in recent years then when I first started reading here as a lurker is other topics. While game is still part and parcel to this place, you’ve expanded your content to other topics and other societal ills. This is called “evolution and maturation” and is part of the normal development cycle of a self aware man no matter his political stripe.

I spend much more time here than anywhere else because game was not anything I ever lacked so I couldn’t learn from the manosphere in that regard. What I did learn is that many people were also tired of being force fed absurd unrealities as concrete truths when the evidence to the contrary was all around them.

For me, personally I can’t speak for anyone else, picks up a torch that was dropped when In Mala Fide shuttered its doors and closed its gates.

Advice for graduates of the dark schools of Leviathan (Cathedrals are beautiful, leave our language alone). http://thomism.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/ramble-on-hypocrisy/

“The liar knows full well what he is saying is a lie . .he might justify his lie but he’s aware that he is telling it. In my own experience with hypocrisy, the lie has faded or been softened out of sight – it has entered into ones personality. The actions one does and the opinions he holds about things are tailored to establishing his position in the world. The hypocrite no longer asks the question “what should I do?” in accordance with what is innermost in himself or in light of what gives life an ultimate meaning or what is true in the world around him- all these things are replaced by position in the world or practical necessity or getting by with ones lot, and the hypocrite “really believes” that these are what are most worth living for, though it is truer to say that he simply no longer asks this sort of question. Hypocrisy is a metastasized lie – the hypocrite no longer just deceives others but succeeds in deceiving even himself.

This self-lie makes all conversion impossible since the hypocrite can no longer see the division between what he is, what is in his power, and what he ought to be. Though hypocrisy is a vice, but its opposite is not exactly a virtuous person – the prostitute or tax collector who hates what they are and wishes they could be something else have the light opposed to hypocrisy. In the doctrine of Christ, this light remains even in the virtuous, since no one could come to be virtuous without first recognizing that they lacked the power to accomplish this of themselves. Taken in this way, hypocrisy is opposed to humility.

Above all, don’t lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself.

That In Mala Fide guy did well to pass on the interview. I’ve been in front of the camera. If you don’t make the point the journalist was trying to use you to say, they find some way around it and connect your name and face with something you never said, didn’t intend, and fundamentally don’t agree with. Those closest to you get what happened, but the worst thing is all the people in your life who now suddenly think you’re cool because of what you said, and now you’re the “men should pay double the taxes to assist single mothers due to the high rate of divorce” spokesperson or some damn twisted distortion of what you actually represent, and what you actually said.

To quote Stiffler: fuck those fuckers. (They’re wearing surfer shorts and flip flops everywhere the camera can’t see, incidentally. Frauds.)

    I haven’t understood why interviewee can’t film his ordeal, document the framing and verballing that goes on. At best they don’t care about being filmed and commit to their narrative anyway – therapists and salon flatterers that they are – and so have material for exposè. Better to show than argue that;

There really is no point in giving MSM and feminism as it currently appears any credibility. Their agenda is to find any reason to justify getting something for nothing and to be able to find a scapegoat to provide this and deflect attention is all the better.

The PC police has destroyed comedy. Destroyed critical thinking, incentive and any concept of truth. This happened over twenty years ago.

Now, as the systems begin to collapse, we should all be ready for overt discrimination against men and white anglos in the form of more restrictions on basic rights.

[…] Others have fisked it quite liberally before I have, so let’s go straight to the weblog of Alyssa Pry, the intrepid reporter who wrote the ABC hate piece. Reading this pathetic diary reaffirms my suspicions that these “reporters” live in a cut-throat, heavily feminist (heh) workspace, and have to get out some story or the other to retain their jobs. I have seen some of these girls who graduate from some nonsense degree in “international relations” or such, and then run around DC or NY trying to find that dream job and recognition. Zoe Barnes from House of Cards who sleeps around to get some newsworthy material is their heroine, and an ambiguous idea of fame is their substitute for a man and building a steady family. I’m not surprised the US is going to the dogs. […]
