Caplanization

November 11, 2013 by CH

Swiped from the Boys from Brasil Norte, a neologismic mockery missile worthy of repoasting:

Caplanization is the process by which the proponents of a particular policy (in this case unrestricted immigration) argue for it in such a manner than virtually all reasonable people are attracted to the opposite position.

Related. You know how robots that get too close to looking human, but not close enough to precisely mimic humans, reach what is known as the Uncanny Valley, and creep people out? Caplan and his hivekind are like the reverse of that process, humans who get too close to robotic facsimiles of humans, but haven’t yet reached full robotization, and creep people out with their vertigo-inducing human-borg form. Only when his transformation is complete will normal people begin to enjoy Caplan’s company, putting the cat on him and sharing a laugh as he roombas around the family room.

The more a woman is fearful of male aggression the less she finds masculine faces attractive.

I guess this means feminist women and beta/herb men are a match made in heaven (or hell).

Oh, mass immigration proponents know exactly what they’re doing. They’re replacing Americans with foreigners. That’s it. Americans are troublesome and insist on things like “rights” while non-Americans are just happy that there are no rebels blowing shit up here.

it depends on who, and i guess degree of ‘mass’, but not all believe that. for example, without our ridiculous welfare safety net, and with a much stronger constitution, i would be very pro-immigration. in our current state it’s not going to be helpful, but i think that’s more a problem with the system than with immigration itself, and i think the system will need fixed, immigration or no. we wouldn’t be attracting the world’s shit if we weren’t already among world’s pussiest nations in terms of giving away our birthright, lack of any law enforcement on immigration at all, and no requirement to integrate or anything else with the pre-existing culture.

I liked the parts in the IQ2 debate video where someone else was speaking and Caplan had to try and remain silent. Obviously, he disagrees with everything everyone else, even Wadhwa says. You see him squirming and jerking and jittering his facial expressions, just dying to burst out in open-borders Tourette’s syndrome.

Naaah, the funny thing is how people even give this guy the time of day. NO control of immigration AT ALL? Most people disagree on the total amount of immigration–Caplan’s position is so extreme as to be counterproductive.

Unfortunately, the status quo will continue–the Left wants the votes, and the Right (corporate) the cheap labor.

Aye, your assessment is spot on, the status quo will continue for precisely the reasons you list. The elite on “both sides” (notice the quotes, I actually think they’re one in the same behind the curtains) want this. Cheap labor and votes for socialism, all the while displacing native liberty-loving enlightenment era European based culture and peoples. They want the population dumb, loyal and subservient, and white Anglo based culture is not conducive at its core to meek subservient mindsets. Even today, when we see weakness all around, there are still millions of “rebel” Anglo/Celt/Germanic types from our culture who are not giving up the ghost. Can’t have that, time to displace us with the descendents of recent stone age savages who obey all commands and question nothing.

An intelligent person made the “no immigration control at all” argument to me and specified that immigrants would not be eligible for any social services (which would be a standard libertarian position) and that immigrants would not be granted citizenship and their children would not gain it automatically either, even if the children were born in the US. In this model, immigrants would only come to the US if they are indeed the cheapest qualified people to do a job, which is how they would have to sustain themselves. Is there a problem with this?

That’s my preference as well. If you’re a citizen you are eligible for a citizen’s dividend or basic income of some sort. If you aren’t then you aren’t. Birthright citizenship would be limited to inheritance, and only natural born citizens would be eligible to hold any kind of public office. Naturalized citizens would be eligible to vote and to hold government jobs. Children with only one parent who was a citizen would be given automatic naturalization status as opposed to natural born status. This would remove all of the government incentives for immigration, and give a slight advantage to citizens. I could slowly help reverse the mass immigration trend and save money because there wouldn’t be resources wasted on deporting people who can just come back.

It takes away job opportunities from the natives and lowers wages. Also, it does not necessarily follow that only the “cheapest qualified people” would immigrate; likely the poorest third-worlders still want to get in because even without citinzenship their lot would greatly improve.

Yes. There is. Many. How long do you think those restrictions would last, given the mathematical certainty of a barrage of propaganda from all corners of the church/media/academia/government complex? What is the essential distinction between this system and indentured servitude? Why should our fellow citizens have to ‘race to the bottom’ to compete with the entire world for those few jobs that still remain stateside? Do you think this new servant class would put up with this situation forever? Would Americans really stand by and watch the immigrant children go hungry and/or uneducated? How is this different from apartheid South Africa and how well is being a minority in their own country working out for the Boers there? (hint: check genocidewatch.com) Not to mention, our ancestors came here to get away from just that sort of society ….

It’s not mysterious. When elite educators and popular media alike have been denigrating patriotism pretty consistently since 1919 (with brief interruptions when elite educators and media producers thought they needed other people to put on uniforms to protect them from scary foreigners), it’s no wonder people like Caplan can only think of a country as nothing but a really big zip code, with no ties of loyalty among its citizens or between citizens and nation.

We need to reform higher education down to the foundation stones, and we need to reform the media with rifle squads and rope.

There’s immigration and then there’s immigration.
They passed some laws – I believe it was called the Mann Act – in the 1960’s, originally meant to facilitate the patriation of foreign spouses of US servicemen, primarily Vietnamese wives/girlfriends.
One side effect – which may or may not have been unintentional – of this law was that it became almost impossible for western Europeans who did not already have family in the US and weren’t rich/celebs/scientists to apply for immigration status.
Coupled with the fact that over the past 40-50 years or so, the standard of living (depending on how you define it) in most of western Europe has been as high or higher than in the US, they haven’t even *wanted* to come.
Which may be changing, because much of their social services structure is collapsing (can’t afford it, see also ‘Obamacare’), and even wealthy, stable countries like Austria have 1.2 million (of 8) people in or near poverty (their standards) and gangs of eastern European and non-European beggars, thieves and thugs, something that would have been completely unthinkable in the 1970s.
Immigration to the US still being very difficult, they go to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc.
French actor Gerard Depardieu recently emigrated to Russia (!!??).
BBC News had a segment on a brain drain of young, unemployed Portuguese students and professionals to Brazil.

^ This! I remember once discussing SS with a hard-core libertarian, and he was telling me SS should be canceled outright. I asked him what my 70+ parents were supposed to do? His reply “if they didn’t save enough fuck them!” I tried to point out that they HAD saved, but had also worked for 40+ years, playing by ‘the rules’, and now dudes like him were saying ‘fuck them’. Finally walked away in disgust.

Ethically, SS is not a big piggy bank that people pay into and then draw out of later in life. In fact, the funds go from the young payers directly to the old pensioners. It’s ethically asymmetrical. After giving your money during your lifetime to older folks, you have established no obligation in younger folks to repay you when you retire. You depend on the guns of the government to keep the youngsters paying you for debts they did not incur. This is the ethical dilemma that libertarians are trying to point out.

Your libertarian friend was rude and uncompassionate perhaps. But the fact that your parents were lied to and forced into a Ponzi scheme is not an ethical argument for forcing today’s young folks to participate.

SS was money stolen from your parents and then squandered long ago (all according to plan IMO). Your parents were victims of fraud and armed robbery. But their victimhood and loss does not give them a moral claim to make themselves whole by stealing from the next crop of hapless victims.

In the presidential primaries, Ron Paul proposed a reasonable plan IMO which would have allowed current recipients above a certain age and below certain means to retain their SS payments until death, during a transitional phase-out of the program.

      Random,

Some bone head does not represent libertarianism in toto. Most libertarians who run for office generally hold the “phase it out over time” mindset regarding most social entitlements. It’s not rocket science to realize that a sudden removal of a “service” like SS would cause massive social upheaval.

It would have been feasible for me to advocate “phase out” a year ago. And then November 6, 2012 happened.

Now? Burn the leviathan to the ground and sow the earth with salt. Not détente, rollback. Not compromise or conditional terms, but total victory and extinction. Extremism, violence, and a credible threat of war. (Which will not be necessary because the opposition is fractious, stupid, disorganized minorities, women, and sensitive self-hating men.) We will make the rubble bounce. We will make “a desert and call it peace.”

With apologies to Reagan (PBUH), here is my strategy on the Cold Civil War: We win, they lose.

Chose up your side. The enemy is fully committed, which necessitates our full commitment. White western man is “nice” to a fault, “until it’s time to not be nice.” Then enemies perish by the truckloads, rather efficiently and in maximum, creative horror: The soldier defiling “the locks of your shrill-shrieking daughters,” and “fathers taken by the silver beards … their most reverend heads dash’d to the walls. …”

What is’t to me, when you yourselves are cause,
If your pure maidens fall into the hand
        Of hot and forcing violation?
What rein can hold licentious wickedness
When down the hill he holds his fierce career?

        Like Harfleur, duly warned.

I’m tired of “racist!” and every other name being thrown out by sneering Leftist goons at every turn, and I’m tired of seeing militarized police show up and shoot defenseless men and women for trivial infractions of the lawless law.

Might not be long before I and others decide its time to become warrior poets and start forming up fianna once again. Note to nonwhite people: What Greg and for that matter Canadian Friend are really saying is: “Im not a racist.” You are going to get this a lot from white people; especially right after you come under racial attack. But here is the logic behind why you are justified to suspect they COULD be one.

        Here is the program:

you: are there any white supremacists in the United States?

        Greg: yes

you: are there any white supremacists in __________ (the name of your state)

        Greg: yes

You: are there any white supremacists in __________ (the name of your city)

        Greg: Yes

You: are there any white supremacists in __________ ( your zip code)

You keep shrinking the geographical area until you get to the point which describes the room you and Greg are sitting in; thats when he will say NO.

At that point you ask him, “what is it about this room that makes it IMPOSSIBLE for a white supremacist to enter it?”

        Force field?

        Infinite dimension Hilbert space?

        Jesus with a knightstick?

        WTF is it?

You ain’t gonna get an answer and that is precisely what justifies you suspecting the white person you are talking to COULD be one.

Don’t fall for the rope-a-dope or Fred Astaire routine.

Treat them just like you would if you were a marine in Afghanistan and an I.E.D just blew up that took your legs off and killed 7 of your buddies; and there is Greg standing there with his turban and Koran talking about:

Here, write it out, my RAY-CIS confession, I’ll sign it:

If wanting me and my folk to be left alone to pursue our given racial identity and cultural heritage… without the deleterious influence of outsiders who, at best, have no love for me and my kind… and at worse, would gladly see us perish… then I, your honor, am RAY-CIS.

Anytime you run a prison, you are going to produce prison behavior. Inmates assault and murder each other everyday; every once in a while a guard gets shanked. It is your job as a prison guard to keep the inmates focused on each other with drugs, homosexuality and differing levels of access to things of value such as, yard time, cafeteria food, uniforms…

The last thing you want as a guard is to have all the inmates sober, straight, and looking at YOU as the source of all their problems.

But you already knew that which is why you installed an inmate as warden in 2008.

I think Paul Ryan (not even vaguely a libertarian) was making a similar proposal? May have him mistaken for somebody else, but the idea is sound and the humane way to go about it. And in the process, let’s wack some of the welfare programs off the slate as well, wean them off then be done with the programs entirely.

It was Paul Ryan, but he didn’t support a full phaseout; he proposed keeping status quo for workers over a certain age, and phasing in raising eligibility age, partial privatization, removal of the income cap, and reduced benefits over time for younger workers. I thought it was ironic that seniors were some of Ryan’s biggest critics, given that his proposals wouldn’t affect them. It’s the workers of my generation that should be upset. If you remove the income cap (taxing higher earners more) and means-test benefits, it’s just another wealth transfer program. Which SS was never intended to be.

I suggest eliminating Medicaid for poor pregnant women and keeping Medicaid only for women who have a working husband making over a certain amount, say $35k.
Since most poor woman will have kids with low iq, this will lower their birthrates. Over the next couple of generations, the average iq of the population will increase. Natural selection baby.

    Non-retarded ways of advocating libertarianism:

    1) Assuming a base population of people who can sustain it, and external protection as well as internal checks on parasitism or abuse of common good. In this scenario, immigration is ruled out.

    2) Assuming genuine liberty, where no population group is prevented by a powerful state from asserting its right to community and posterity. In this scenario, “Civil Rights” is ruled out.

Yes, in both business and pleasure. My own views look rather like this:

What consenting adults do in private is no one’s business but their own.
You are responsible for the consequences of your actions.
Your rights end where mine begin.

That makes me a fiscal conservative, social uber-liberal (anti drug war, anti vice laws) who votes Tea Party when he can and R when he must.

Yep, even that’s a bit too liberal for me, I suppose because I’ve taken this whole “dark enlightenment” thing to heart. I’ve modified your premise, “Your rights end where mine begin,” to my own premise, “You and I have no rights; so, are you friend or foe?”

This time of year, certain ungulates have no rights. 😉

That Vivek ( how ever it is spelled) guy is not very bright.

The debate is about being allowed to work any where in the world and he keeps talking about people who work from home from their computers…but the 1 or 2 billions workers of the world are not highly educated people who have jobs they can do from home on their computers…

and every 5 minutes he comes up with either something that is besides the debate or that is such a weak argument it is ludicrous, and on top of this he talks too much, he has no self control.

at around 57 minutes he jokingly declared his side has already won the debate???!!! it is not even funny as everything he says is so weak that even the moderator has to stop him.

That Vivek guy’s IQ is about 30 or 40 points below that of the all the other people on that stage.

And if anyone believes I am saying this because his skin is brown, then you are even dumber than Vivek.

Caplanization is the process by which the proponents of a particular policy (in this case unrestricted immigration) argue for it in such a manner than virtually all reasonable people are attracted to the opposite position.

Makes me wonder if Caplan isn’t a strawman-sockpuppet. From Wikipedia:

“A strawman sockpuppet is a false flag pseudonym created to make a particular point of view look foolish or unwholesome in order to generate negative sentiment against it. Strawman sockpuppets typically behave in an unintelligent, uninformed, or bigoted manner and advance “straw man” arguments that their puppeteers can easily refute. The intended effect is to discredit more rational arguments made for the same position. Such sockpuppets behave in a similar manner to internet trolls.”

I can’t speak for the feminists, but if it was a 19 y/o guy saying it about the 50-something wife his parents pimped him out to when he was a child, I don’t see who could blame him.

Feminists pitched fits about that couple, but as usual, it was for all the wrong reasons. It was much more about shaming men for liking young girls than it was about any concern for a horrifically parented 16 year old girl headed for full train wreck status by 20. The blame there goes to the parents, not the husband.

Germany’s rise up to WWII had a large part due to the work of Jewish bankers, investors, scientists, and industrialists.
The USSR owes its huge rise to the work of Jews. Whether that is positive or negative is your opinion.

All of the open door arguments would be perfectly valid… if people everywhere were the same as people everywhere.

Half of our world lives in an industrialized or post-industrialized paradise, while the other half lives in a Malthusian trap, at or past the carrying capacity of the land. The major difference between industrialized countries and non-industrialized countries is that the industrialized countries possess, in one form or another, to varying degrees, the following attributes:

    1) a tradition of property rights
    2) rule of, primacy of, and respect for, the law, rather than persons
    3) Protestant work ethic

if we assume that everyone in the world possesses these attributes in equal parts, then fine, we could open the borders with no ill effects. And in the economic argument, these attributes are either ignored (as if Europe and the US achieved industrialization by accident) or they are assumed to be equally spread across all humanity. However this is simply not the case.

In short, can anyone who is in favor of open borders please explain to me how flooding the United States with Haitians and Nigerians will fail to turn the United States into an offshoot of Haiti or Nigeria. Sure, we can absorb the population of the island of Puerto Rico without too much difficulty. We could probably absorb the entire population of Mexico as well. But we can’t pretend that there is no limit. As these people flow into our country, eventually we have a country devoid of the three above characteristics, and we have a slightly whiter, slightly colder version of Nigeria.

How is that better for the world, let alone me and my family?
