it depends on who, and i guess degree of ‘mass’, but not all believe that. for example, without our ridiculous welfare safety net, and with a much stronger constitution, i would be very pro-immigration. in our current state it’s not going to be helpful, but i think that’s more a problem with the system than with immigration itself, and i think the system will need fixed, immigration or no. we wouldn’t be attracting the world’s shit if we weren’t already among world’s pussiest nations in terms of giving away our birthright, lack of any law enforcement on immigration at all, and no requirement to integrate or anything else with the pre-existing culture.

Aye, your assessment is spot on, the status quo will continue for precisely the reasons you list. The elite on “both sides” (notice the quotes, I actually think they’re one in the same behind the curtains) want this. Cheap labor and votes for socialism, all the while displacing native liberty-loving enlightenment era European based culture and peoples. They want the population dumb, loyal and subservient, and white Anglo based culture is not conducive at its core to meek subservient mindsets. Even today, when we see weakness all around, there are still millions of “rebel” Anglo/Celt/Germanic types from our culture who are not giving up the ghost. Can’t have that, time to displace us with the descendents of recent stone age savages who obey all commands and question nothing.

An intelligent person made the “no immigration control at all” argument to me and specified that immigrants would not be eligible for any social services (which would be a standard libertarian position) and that immigrants would not be granted citizenship and their children would not gain it automatically either, even if the children were born in the US. In this model, immigrants would only come to the US if they are indeed the cheapest qualified people to do a job, which is how they would have to sustain themselves. Is there a problem with this?

That’s my preference as well. If you’re a citizen you are eligible for a citizen’s dividend or basic income of some sort. If you aren’t then you aren’t. Birthright citizenship would be limited to inheritance, and only natural born citizens would be eligible to hold any kind of public office. Naturalized citizens would be eligible to vote and to hold government jobs. Children with only one parent who was a citizen would be given automatic naturalization status as opposed to natural born status. This would remove all of the government incentives for immigration, and give a slight advantage to citizens. I could slowly help reverse the mass immigration trend and save money because there wouldn’t be resources wasted on deporting people who can just come back.

It takes away job opportunities from the natives and lowers wages. Also, it does not necessarily follow that only the “cheapest qualified people” would immigrate; likely the poorest third-worlders still want to get in because even without citinzenship their lot would greatly improve.

There’s immigration and then there’s immigration.
They passed some laws – I believe it was called the Mann Act – in the 1960’s, originally meant to facilitate the patriation of foreign spouses of US servicemen, primarily Vietnamese wives/girlfriends.
One side effect – which may or may not have been unintentional – of this law was that it became almost impossible for western Europeans who did not already have family in the US and weren’t rich/celebs/scientists to apply for immigration status.
Coupled with the fact that over the past 40-50 years or so, the standard of living (depending on how you define it) in most of western Europe has been as high or higher than in the US, they haven’t even *wanted* to come.
Which may be changing, because much of their social services structure is collapsing (can’t afford it, see also ‘Obamacare’), and even wealthy, stable countries like Austria have 1.2 million (of 8) people in or near poverty (their standards) and gangs of eastern European and non-European beggars, thieves and thugs, something that would have been completely unthinkable in the 1970s.
Immigration to the US still being very difficult, they go to Canada, Australia, New Zealand,etc.

Ethically, SS is not a big piggy bank that people pay into and then draw out of later in life. In fact, the funds go from the young payers directly to the old pensioners. It’s ethically asymmetrical. After giving your money during your lifetime to older folks, you have established no obligation in younger folks to repay you when you retire. You depend on the guns of the government to keep the youngsters paying you for debts they did not incur. This is the ethical dilemma that libertarians are trying to point out.

Anytime you run a prison, you are going to produce prison behavior. Inmates assault and murder each other everyday; every once in a while a guard gets shanked. It is your job as a prison guard to keep the inmates focused on each other with drugs, homosexuality and differing levels of access to things of value such as, yard time, cafeteria food, uniforms…
The last thing you want as a guard is to have all the inmates sober, straight, and looking at YOU as the source of all their problems.

And in the process, let’s wack some of the welfare programs off the slate as well, wean them off then be done with the programs entirely.

It was Paul Ryan, but he didn’t support a full phaseout; he proposed keeping status quo for workers over a certain age, and phasing in raising eligibility age, partial privatization, removal of the income cap, and reduced benefits over time for younger workers. I thought it was ironic that seniors were some of Ryan’s biggest critics, given that his proposals wouldn’t affect them. It’s the workers of my generation that should be upset. If you remove the income cap (taxing higher earners more) and means-test benefits, it’s just another wealth transfer program. Which SS was never intended to be.

I suggest eliminating Medicaid for poor pregnant women and keeping Medicaid only for women who have a working husband making over a certain amount, say $35k.
Since most poor woman will have kids with low iq, this will lower their birthrates. Over the next couple of generations, the average iq of the population will increase. Natural selection baby.

1) Assuming a base population of people who can sustain it, and external protection as well as internal checks on parasitism or abuse of common good. In this scenario, immigration is ruled out.

I can’t speak for the feminists, but if it was a 19 y/o guy saying it about the 50-something wife his parents pimped him out to when he was a child, I don’t see who could blame him.
Feminists pitched fits about that couple, but as usual, it was for all the wrong reasons. It was much more about shaming men for liking young girls than it was about any concern for a horrifically parented 16 year old girl headed for full train wreck status by 20. The blame there goes to the parents, not the husband.

All of the open door arguments would be perfectly valid… if people everywhere were the same as people everywhere.
Half of our world lives in an industrialized or post-industrialized paradise, while the other half lives in a Malthusian trap, at or past the carrying capacity of the land. The major difference between industrialized countries and non-industrialized countries is that the industrialized countries possess, in one form or another, to varying degrees, the following attributes:
1) a tradition of property rights
2) rule of, primacy of, and respect for, the law, rather than persons
3) Protestant work ethic
if we assume that everyone in the world possesses these attributes in equal parts, then fine, we could open the borders with no ill effects. And in the economic argument, these attributes are either ignored (as if Europe and the US achieved industrialization by accident) or they are assumed to be equally spread across all humanity. However this is simply not the case.
In short, can anyone who is in favor of open borders please explain to me how flooding the United States with Haitians and Nigerians will fail to turn the United States into an offshoot of Haiti or Nigeria. Sure, we can absorb the population of the island of Puerto Rico without too much difficulty. We could probably absorb the entire population of Mexico as well. But we can’t pretend that there is no limit. As these people flow into our country, eventually we have a country devoid of the three above characteristics, and we have a slightly whiter, slightly colder version of Nigeria.
How is that better for the world, let alone me and my family?
