“Why are they so threatened by the idea that some factors determining an individual’s success are genetic?”
Why indeed? Presumably because the reality of genetic inheritance of talent is too deeply threatening to the status quo. More specifically (assuming Clark is right)
1. We can’t fix the schools. The kids failing in our schools will be failing for a long time to come. Education as a societal panacea is a false god that can’t solve inequality, racial disparities, social problems, etc.
2. If we are going to provide a better life to the bottom half, it is going have to be via something other education. None of the choices (income redistribution, trade restrictions, class based quotas, etc.) are pretty to the NYT readership.
3. Racial and ethnic disparities in America won’t go away anytime soon.
4. Unskilled immigration is a disaster because the immigrants and their children won’t be competitive for the foreseeable future.
5. The current elite (NYT readers) didn’t earn their position in society. They simply inherited it.
Let’s cut to the chase here. Clark is saying “you inherited your position in society and all of your ideas about fixing society won’t work”.
Why wouldn’t they be upset?
As CH has said before, the most powerful force in the universe is the human ego. So powerful, that our rulers would rather send their nation down the toilet to preserve their collective ego than admit their failure and futility. It’s status whoring all the way down. Down. Down.

Corvinus is about right.
Keynesianism specifically is a fiscal spending to attain “natural equilibrium” theory; Keynes theories slightly deviated from the quantity theory of money models inherited from Alfred Marshall and other classical economists of the time. Basically, he posited that monetary expansion can’t affect price levels in recessions because of short term stickiness. Hence, New-Keynesians are always droning on about liquidity traps, zero rate bounds, pushing on string, other such critiques of monetarism.
Nothing in Keynesianism actually supports prosperity via money printing in of itself. They are far more concerned with stable prices, because they believe businesses can’t in the short term adapt to price fluctuations (especially deflationary price fluctuations).
The problem is that most New Keynesians more or less also follow the basic Monetarist theory (as do most economists) in non-recession times, so they are on board with using central monetary systems to influence the economy.

Not that I intend to defend Keynesian economics, but most people seem to conveniently ignore that “Austrian” economics is another YKW doctrine/movement, as is Marxism, feminism, etc… If this seems like a contradiction that the same group of people came up with Marxism and Austrian economics, read about “Hegelian Dialectic”.

This seems unfamiliar to me. I am aware that my intellectual inheritance is far above average. God is better than me, some other people are better than me, I am better than most people, and even they are better than salamanders. We all have a position on the scale.
Not for a millisecond of my life did it evoke a feeling of guilt. It did, however, evoke a clear feeling of responsibility. I am responsible to use my gifts … as I see fit. It seems I was given the spirit to use these gifts appropriately. I do not misuse them.

I don’t know if the stack obeys LIFO. In fact my comment was posted immediately this time. How does the posting algorithm actually work? It seems shorter posts get posted immediately more often than longer ones. Sometimes it seems like it’s by subject, in a subtle enough way that a human or pretty good AI algorithm is reading the submissions in real time.

“FIFO” is what preserves chronological integrity.
With “LIFO”, if there is a huge flurry of comments at the same time – many more than the database can absorb – then the comments start getting deep-sixed off to long-term storage.
First they are pushed out to L1 cache. Then to L2 cache. Then to L3 cache. Then to system memory, and finally to the paging file, on the hard drive.
And they sit on the hard drive. And sit on the hard drive. And sit on the hard drive.
For 24 hours or more.
Then when the middleware begins thinning out the LIFO stack of its excess comments, your own comment is eventually summoned from the paging file on the hard drive, and back into system memory, and back into the L3 cache, and back into the L2 cache, and back into the L1 cache.
HOPEFULLY.
It could be that when your comment is summoned from the paging file on the hard drive, and pulled back into system memory etc etc etc, another flurry of too many comments is thrown at the middleware, and your comment gets thrown way back out into the paging file on the hard drive, where the whole process of working its way into the CPU starts all over again.
EVENTUALLY, though, your comment finally makes it all the way to the top of the stack, and the middleware loads it into the CPU’s registers, and your comment gets sent off to the database.
HOPEFULLY the database doesn’t have its own LIFO stack, so that once your comment makes its way to the database, it’s processed more or less “immediately” [which, since databases are notoriously slow, could require a substantial portion of a few tenths of a second].
Then the database notifies the web-caching server that it needs to update its cache of the webpage, and your comment is sent off to the web-caching server for updating.
And the web-caching server may or may not have its own LIFO stack.
Blah blah blah blah blah.
LIFO stacks are the creation of MBAs and Bean Counters and “Let’s maximize short term profit” types who want to greatly oversell system capacity on the theory that 75% “up time” [without being overwhelmed by more comments than the system can handle] is good enough for the tards who frequent these sites, and who in their right mind would want to purchase enough CPU power and L1/L2/L3 cache and system memory and data-server/storage speed to process a FIFO stack in real time?
So we get this completely out-of-order anti-chronological LIFO-stack mess, which can render it damned near impossible to create and maintain any sort of a comprehendible conversation amongst ourselves.

And, technically, if the data every gets into the CPU/OS cache, it is by definition being processed then, not as a storage mechanism for later access by the “blog” apparatus. And there is no way that this area of caching is slowing down, or causing the appearance of FILO behavior under any practical conditions.
I, as an actual blog owner, suspect that the mods are working the approvals from most recent to oldest, particular if you are doing so from an email client, where you also get this phenomenon. Blogger lists them most-recent to oldest by default and in pages, so if you start from the wrong end, you are inducing a LIFO effect.
It may be that there is some other metric (word count, source, suspected bot, etc) that gets some posts slowed down, but it almost certainly not an artifact of the OS, DB, middleware, etc pieces. So,if we actually knew the details better, we come up w/ some term other than LIFO to describe that metric.
Finally, while I am as disgusted by “MBAs and Bean Counters ” as anyone else, let’s not give them credit for creating LIFO stacks. They are the creation of no less than Alan Turing for their original and modern use of entering and exiting subroutines.

This statement shows a complete ignorance of how software architectures are distinguished from OS architectures. First of all, the middleware is almost certainly going to impose it’s own ordering on the data, via storage structure and algorithm, and I would be flabbergasted if WordPress is doing something FILO there. Second, there is nothing inherent in a thread blocking on paging that is going to cause LIFO behavior. At worst you could come up with some ridiculous example of massively large comments being somehow slowed down by many smaller comments in a heavily threaded environment wherein the threads had no concept of any common data structure and were effectively causing slowdown of the large comments. Again, nothing inherently LIFO there. Frankly, i doubt that for any of the comment sizes we see here, the data is ever paged out to disk. Paging is for things that live in memory without being accessed for relatively long periods of time.

I don’t know about you guys, but there is something strange about western womens speech that feels like nails on a chalkboard to me. It is just so fucking pretentious. As a Gen Y male, this seems somewhat new and ten times worse than the valley girl speech patterns made popular in the 90’s by movies like Clueless. Have I just not noticed this before? I know it has been around for awhile but I always just assumed it was a few female comedians, lol, in their forties who employed it. Now I am seeing it all over the place.

It’s uptalk, where every phrase ends with a rise in pitch so that everything sounds like a question (which makes people sound stupid), combined with vocal fry, which is an affectation caused by insufficient air support while talking (i.e., not exhaling sufficiently), resulting in a voice that sounds ragged, as if she smokes two pack a day and guzzles Wild Turkey neat for breakfast every morning. 98% of all women under age 40 speak this way, and it’s been going on for about a decade, and I have no idea why.

Well, historically, leftists split as to whether race was a factor in success, Those leftists who believed race did matter thought the negro (and other races) un-salvageable and advocated selective breeding/sterilization/abortion (e.g. Margaret Sanger) of blacks and other undesirables. Who exactly constituted the undesirables was a hot topic.
The other half of leftists—the Bolsheviks—argued that race didn’t matter. They believed racial disparity was just a mass conspiracy holding the underclass down. This is why they viewed the “proletariat revolution” as bringing about world harmony; the lower classes weren’t more stupid, more violent, and less capable than the upper and middle, but were held down by nefarious means.
WW2’s eastern front can be viewed in this context. On one side, you had the racialist left, the National Socialist, who exterminated those people they viewed as undesirable– all to further the goal of a perfect socialist state. On the other, the Bolsheviks, who supposedly believed communist perfection was not race based, and that Slavs, like Aryans, could achieve communist perfection, if only they were not held down by the yoke of “rootless cosmopolitans” and bourgeois, etc.
After WW2, when Jews saw that the race realist left had made them the undesirable, they panicked and withdrew support for that part of the left. The Bolsheviks, through the KGB, encouraged this withdrawal, promising that, in the Soviet world, Jews and non-Jews would never be distinguished. Since the Jews made (and make) up a large part of the financial, social, and intellectual support of the left, this caused the race realist left to all but disappear in the U.S. and other Western states. Race suddenly could never matter, simply because, if it did, Jews feared that they would be back on the chopping block.
In short, the American left today refuses to believe in race realism as a self-defense mechanism; American Jews still greatly fear that any discussion will lead to another national pogrom, and they still wield a disproportionate amount of power in the American left.
Contrast this to Israeli Jews, who openly avow a race realist left-wing view. Israeli is a socialist state –which is why many Israeli Jews leave and make their fortunes abroad—that openly encourages a national race-based policy: blocking all but Jews from coming in; harshly scrutinizing black Jewish immigration attempts; sterilizing incoming blacks when they do get through; and repeatedly emphasizing, through military action and announcements, that Israel is a Jewish state.

I dont really give the elite that much credit, they dont even reproduce at replacement level. They are merely status hoarding because our system does not allow people to maintain status by being productive or useful for the most part. Point 4 is short-sighted. In a heavily-regulated welfare state, unskilled immigration is a problem and it does do to close the borders. But that is very expensive. In a free market, unskilled immigration is beneficial. Labor is cheap, costs are low, and an economy grows.
The solution is to remove all governmental benefits which attract the parasitic moochers of the developing world and to allow economic freedom by getting rid of all laws which prohibit free trade.

First of all, you’d have to show that unskilled immigration benefits your unskilled labor force. Since you made a blanket claim about the benefits of immigration, it is reasonable to expect Pareto efficiency and not just mere Kaldor-Hicks efficiency(at this point, you might pick up a real economics textbook and start learning). Considering you want a free market, I assume you would be against wealth transfers from those who benefit from immigration to those who are harmed by it, so you must show that those who are harmed by it benefit simply by virtue of lower costs of living. You must do this without assuming labor markets are frictionless or other out of touch assumptions economists fancy.
Even on a social perspective, it’s unclear immigration is a benefit. It does benefit the upper class by shifting revenue from labor to capital, but you’d make a dubious claim that the net benefits to the people of the country getting immigration are positive. More schools, more police, more highways are all mostly financed by the native population, so the benefits of immigration must offset all of this. Not only this, but you must consider the opportunity cost of this use of capital. Dialogues with ideologues aren’t much evidence to support anything.

I can’t see how legalizing the central american and Caribbean illegals has any benefit given our socialized system in place. Those immigrants and their descendants would be largely net tax eaters. However, I think that in a purely libertarian system, the central american illegals would be a long term net gain because they displace blacks. People prefer to hire Mestizos to do gardening and housecleaning and other low skill physical labor. Mestizos also wouldn’t come here if they couldn’t get either a job or welfare.
In a libertarian world, we all earn our keep and if you can’t get a job, you either starve or go somewhere else or end up in jail. So, we would have central americans displacing blacks and then blacks becoming a smaller and smaller percentage of the US population.
Hispanics have an average IQ that may be in the high 80s, but their crime rate appears to be only 20%-25% higher than whites whereas the black crime rate is 4-5 times as high as whites. Their rate of unemployment is only 1-2% higher than whites, whereas with blacks it is at least 2x as high as for whites. Thus, I think a society is better off with 30% of the population being hispanic rather than 13% black. In a libertarian system, that might be the longterm result.
Of course, that’s not what we are getting today. We are now getting 40% hispanic plus 13% black.

+1. In any environment where there is NOT total private, personal ownership of property, there will be manipulation of the “public” property. This means the import of cheap labor to keep wages down and continuously undercuts the lower middle class. Those disagreeing shouldn’t use the USA as a successful example of a counter to my statement. The USA had many periods where immigration was severely curtailed or stopped almost entirely. My following comments apply to any way of calculation of welfare and don’t require Pareto efficiency. But I think one must be careful to limit the welfare calculation to those currently in the country. Most studies do not do this, thus negating the ownership interest and reasonably anticipated rights that come with being a citizen in a country, maybe for many generations.
Your claim might be true in some sense if each person is not seen to own an allocation of all their national land (our “wide open spaces” and relatively spacious cities, that benefit us all in the USA) and that there were not wealth transfers to inferior individuals and their children.
Without a lot of unrealistic assumptions you won’t be able to uncouple the intertemporal nature of the problem. They bring in their kids, and there are then many generations of low economic productivity and high demand for social services.
In other words, your assertion is simplistic nonsense.

Schools can be fixed by eliminating unnecessary classes like art, drama, pottery, etc., eliminating sports, and replacing them with classes that would actually be useful like accounting or personal finance, and prep classes for skilled trades. Genetic factors certainly play a role with certain races (i.e. blacks), but even there their lives could be drastically improved and the crime rate drastically reduced by providing them with classes that will actually help them get jobs. Reducing the overall number of classes could shorten the length of high school to 2 1/2 years and get people into jobs earlier, which would help people financially in the long run.

3. This should read “Disparities between Blacks and Latinos on one hand, and everybody else….” The Asians and Middle Easterners seem to be doing just fine. They work hard, tend not to get in trouble, and their kids take high-paying professional jobs. The Latinos seem to do a lot better than the Blacks, because they aren’t averse to hard work.
4. Very true, although I’d add that illegal immigrants have been entering skilled trades as well. The construction industry, at least in California, is notorious for hiring illegals under the table. There’s just not as much need for ditch diggers or lettuce pickers like there was in my grandfather’s day; the work of 10 ditch diggers can be done by one guy in a Bobcat, and the vegetables are imported from Mexico.

I was on two sports teams in high school. I spent 10 years in Scouts, and during that time I was hiking, fishing, and target shooting, all of which I still do today in addition to weightlifting. You don’t seem to be very proficient at mind-reading. Neurological rage? I hope you’re not a psychologist, you don’t seem to be very good at it.
I’m not doubting that physical activity is necessary, but in the context of modern high schools it needs to be eliminated–along with the other things I mentioned–because the schools have done a piss-poor job of educating kids at the primary level. If a kid operates at an academic level several grades below his present one, then no amount of “character-building” while playing team sports will help him get a job and stay off welfare. If you can barely read or write, have little or no math and science skills, have no understanding of finance and accounting, or have no experience in any kind of skilled trade, then it will be next to impossible for you to find a decent paying job. At this point, the only way to help school kids (and the economy in the long run) is to focus on what they actually need to know to support themselves.
Doesn’t anybody else find the idea of an economy dominated by great athletes working minimum wage retail jobs horrifying?

There is a fallacy in the above statements, not the only one in the post, but characteristic enough to warrant highlighting. The author claims that unskilled immigration invariably leads to producing uncompetitive offspring, presumably, as stated earlier in that post, due to genetic heritage.
There is a whole debate to be had about what implications genetic heritage should have to opportunities afforded in society – does the author allude to a system where those with “superior” genes should be under a special preferential mandate in society? Not quite sure, but let’s look at the next statement.
Here the claim is that “elites”, whoever they are, have not earned their privileged position in society, but inherited it. The author seems oblivious to the fact that the unskilled immigrants can make the exact same argument about him – that he did not earn his superior status over them, but inherited it on the basis of privileged upbringing, essentially just by being native to the United States.
So, are there “superior” genes at play here? Perhaps there are, but by that argument, if one is not part of the “elite” then one is simply to dumb to be anywhere near the top of the social pyramid. And the merciless sorter of genetic “superiority” should immediately funnel that person into a lifelong serf-hood to his betters. In fact, an honest person, like the results-minded author of the post, should immediately give everything away to his superiors as to not waste precious resources on his hopeless self.

I attended a boarding school in New Mexico and the elite from south of the border thought it a feather in their cap to send their kids to this school. But of course what you reveal with this kind of patois is at best a naive ignorance of the “genetics” you seem to be impressed with. Just a few facts for you:
1. Environment has a huge impact on the development of intelligence. Epigenetics, brain/neuro plasticity and early efforts to teach reading etc all make a huge dent. It’s not purely genetics – sorry.
2. Differences in intelligence are greater within races than across races. Accordingly, race is a really poor indicator of any individual’s intelligence.
3. “Race” itself is much less clear than your statements would indicate you believe it is. Most of us are multi-racial if you look at our genetics.
And of course, acknowledging genetic traits and their connection to various behaviors and outcomes doesn’t demand any positive action by govt. It would demand we stop using outcomes so blindly. I would mean that the elites reconsider their commitment to an egalitarian society. But none of that means racial separatism or govt quotas are necessary.
As for the kinds of jobs the working class will do, the loss of them is due to idiotic trade and monetary policies. Floating the dollar in ’71 by Nixon was the last straw and it’s given the political class the ability to manipulate economies like never before. This is their core madness – all else is enabled by this.They also can create money out of thin air to fund their madness – there are no brakes on the train. That is the core political problem and how the working class got sacrificed.

For anyone who hasn’t experienced a good laugh in a while, I suggest looking up some of the liberal establishment’s reactions to twin studies.
I’m talking about studies where identical twins are separated at birth but later reunited as adults. These studies had many findings that wouldn’t surprise the HBD crowd, but caused an uproar in the lefty Cathedral. The studies recorded that separated identical twins had the same hobbies, habits, clothing styles and were pretty much the same in all facets of life.
The self-styled “tolerant” and “open-minded” lefties were anything but tolerant and open-minded about the results. A professor had his ego so butt-hurt that he accused the authors of the study of fabrication and lies.

Intelligence is only one part of the genetics. Psychological traits are also inherited to some extent. The cumulative effect of that as correlated to race presents itself by showing that society is a racial construct.

Race and other genetic differences are actually NOT an arguable topic as every study has shown that on average there are distinctive differences due to sex and race – although everyone conveniently does not address it. On average the IQ of the races based separate into bands with caucasians smack in the middle – wanna know why Asians do better? Their IQ is on average around 108. Couple that to a society which emphasizes studying and you have a recipe for success.
Science is seldom pretty and will piss people off, but it produces verifiable facts, and the differences due to race are verifiable. However, that does not excuse the present abrogation when it comes to our schools. They are a disaster in this country because the left has incorporated the Nazi style indoctrination techniques of avoiding teaching things that lead to questioning – facts, debate, actually learning, and instead force the same by-rote non-sense down children’s throats. I was “educated” in a large city, and I regurgitated their unmitigated horse-sh*t back to them for a degree, but could easily see the BS. Of course my IQ is several standard deviations above the norm so it was trivial to separate the BS from facts – most students cannot. Unfortunately, our schools are a mess, and the left wants it that way just like the Communists wanted drones, so do they.
I call it like I see it – the US is doomed. I and others like me are preparing to jump ship – look at the numbers, those renouncing their citizenship is skyrocketing, and will continue to do so. Why? I actually have several businesses and the US is toxic to drive, ambition, and entrepreneurship, and I don’t see that ever changing with the bringing in of the stupid that is the lefts way of guaranteeing elections.
The smart man doesn’t wish the world was the way he wants it to be – he prepares for it as it is and uses it to his interest.
