The premise is so conspicuously self-refuting (and conveniently unfalsifiable) that Steve decides a pregnant “uh…” is all the rebuttal that’s needed. The first commenter, though, adds a little zest to the national discourse.
But Ann, what about a film like “Something’s Gotta Give,” where 50-ish women with no curves are told the hot young doctor’s going to fall in love with them? Is it possible that when this doesn’t happen in real life, women act out by supporting all manner of political causes inimical to the interests of the straight white men who spurn them? Hmmm?

This kid’s problem was a combination of being narcissistic (I’m great and everyone should acknowledge it), a giant pussy (too afraid to try to change because it would hurt his inflated self-image), and deluded about sexual differences – specifically the nature of women.
He thought women should be approaching him and when they didn’t that was a rejection. He thought that women would be nice to guys looking to hit on them and not that they are looking to filter out weak men. He thought that his taste in women was just part of the world (blonde, beautiful, slim, tall, etc.) whereas any preferences that women have in men was beastly (tall, dominant, arrogant cock and funny).

Male sexual isolation is sufficient for individual men to take up banditry and piracy and general outlawry, as those men have nothing invested in the maintenance of civilization. The media coverage of Rodgers are all similar in that they seek to lay blame somewhere,anywhere. Why? Is it not obvious where the blame truly lays. Elliot Rodgers is to blame. But you will not hear this discussed at all. The media completely discounts personal responsibility in it’s analysis of this and other cases. This strengthens their narrative that evil like this could be prevented if only you would give them the power to change institutions, culture and parenting styles. Do not fall into their frame on this argument. Remember responsibility and authority are two sides of the same coin. I think this is one reason the left attempts to completely destroy any concept of personal responsibility, it also destroys your authority over yourself. It also denies the self obvious concept that some people (and things/acts) are just inherently wrong/evil and must be guarded against. Elliot Rodgers was not an empty slate upon which society acted, he,himself must made the choices. He was wrong and committed evil acts. He is to blame. The big dating market we have today may be more exciting, but we weren’t made for it. One good thing about times of hardship – like we had for most of human history, or in times of war – is that it makes people focus on the essentials. Not in who looks best at the club. For most guys, a world where you get married by working hard and becoming that upstanding member of the town would probably be preferable and would reduce a lot of self-destructive behavior.

The movies play to the modern anxieties of the men who make them and act in them (Apatow, Rogen, Jonah Hill, Brown, etc.). As I said on Steve’s site, the movies that make SERIOUS money focus on male heroism, courage, toughness, will, loyalty, etc. The Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America, etc. make 2-6 times the Apatow comedy gross, and 10 times that or more of the total revenues out of toys, games, bedsheets etc. What men want, will pay for, or boys and kids, is the old stories of courage and willpower and fortitude. Even Harry Potter in the end hit that note.
And that works. An ugly guy who is tough beats a pretty boy with gym muscles. Toughness always counts. Of course the very concept of courage is incomprehensible to a woman, or nearly all. Its like expecting your dog to do algebra. Not going to happen.
