Even better, read “Impact of Islam” some time. As someone who studied history, I always had a feeling of in-congruence when Islam was touted as being “peaceful” and “most advanced civilization in the world at one time”, because I was aware of many of the parts that were ignored or out right fabricated of the periods. That book brings the facts together in a concise, readable manner. Well worth the price of purchase. I am likely to even purchase it in print some time.

What I really despise about the LGBT community in this country is that it preaches to vulnerable children this idea of normalcy. That they can be exactly like straight people – a loving monogamous marriage, children, a home, an accepting extended family, sexual stability. That there is nothing different about homosexual or transsexual subculture.
But it’s all a fucking lie.
Look at these children. They are all miserable. None of them are at peace with themselves. Many of them already have that same noxious hate growing in their hearts that infects so many adults in the LGBT community. They are being taught that hate right now, by people on their own fucking side.
Some of these kids probably could have been saved with proper help early one. Some of them, armed with the truth, could have made different choices for themselves. But no. The aging gays do this to them instead, like the fucking homeless people you see on the streets with dogs by their side.

Sis, I was thinking about atheism, and I reached conclusion with my father, than atheism is foolish. The wiser, more humble and more intelligent conclusion would be agnostic, yes? Agnosticism I believe is quite humble because it is admitting there is much we do not know, which is something even a believer has to accept.

Agnostic is a statement about knowledge. Theist/Atheist is a statement about belief. As you said, even a believer can’t ‘know’ if there is a god and is therefore technically agnostic. However, the lack of an active belief in gods makes one an atheist.

I am not a religious believer of any type but it is my understanding of Christianity that one should pray for internal improvement such as the ability to bear or face the inevitable difficulties of this world rather than a specific, external outcome. Example of external: Hey God, here’s a deal. I will believe in you if you let me win the lottery.

(Apologys for this very long winded and off topic comment.) BraveAtheistGirl, I am very sorry about the loss of your mother. It must be so difficult for you. But remember that God always has a purpose even if we can not understand it. It does make sense that the world, and the universes and everything has a Creator. How can we contemplate infinity? How can we understand it? Everything is created so perfect and is not understandable, so we must sure there is Something much bigger, wiser and more intelligent behind it yes? Man can not give us the adequate answers, we do not have the answers, yet in our pride we insist on idolizing man and self.
That is why I said it is more smart to be agnostic and not atheist. Atheism makes no sense because they are claiming to know what can not be proven. They are saying there is no God, but how can they be sure? A believer in God also has to accept that there are many things we do not understand of His ways, but instead of claiming to understand as a Atheist does, we simply have Faith and then His love manifests in our lives. Atheists have faith too, but in themself because they do not have understanding how weak humans really are. It is basically pride. I am not trying to push you to believe sis, I am saying to consider that your atheism is as much a Religion as is Christianity. You have blind faith that “there is no God”, despite much evidence pointing to the contrary.

My father is very sick, he has had 5 strokes, and is paralyzed on one side of his body. He was at excellent at maths, now he can not count, read or write, or do other basic things with out help. He has had a very difficult life, he has always been excellent father to me and my sisters, my mother left him when I was 4 years old. He is my hero, the best father anyone could have. He re build his life from nothing when my mother left him. He made a business, bought a big house. He worked 17 hour days to put food on the table. He is my definintion of a good man. But he has been of ill health for a long time now, and after his 2nd stroke, he lost his Faith. He became an Atheist and hated even to talk of anything about religion. He would sit listening to the news and say “The world is too cruel place for a God to exist.” This was a so heart breaking to hear, because I feared so much that God forbid, he die an atheist.
Now I will tell you, how God answers prayers.
My father has been away for some time, to be closer to where is his healthcare, with my sister’s family. He came home recently so that I can care for him. And when I saw how his condition had deteriated, I was angry. I was angry that life could be so not fair. I saw him trying to struggle with everything, and I knew it was hurting him that he no longer was the strong, capable man he has always been. I have been praying and praying that God will give my father Faith. But my father would become distressed and angry even at the mention of God. Last week, on the day of plane crash when so many died, we were listening to the news and my father was very distressed about the lives lost. All day he was quiet and sad.
In the evening I said to him patera mou, what is wrong? He said to me he is feeling not well because of the loss of all those lives. I thought for a minute and said, would you like to pray? He said he forgot how to pray. I said it is okay patera mou, I will say prayer and we will say Amen. So I close my eyes and I start to say a prayer, it was long prayer, it was as though God was giving me the words to speak in that moment. When I opened my eyes, my father was crying and making the sign of the cross. This was amazing because my father has been a zealous atheist since his strokes. Some days later we was sit in the garden in the night, and he was looking at the sky and said how beautiful it is. I said yes, it is beautiful and magnificent because it has a Creator. He said everything must start have a Creator. I asked him if he was still a atheist, and he said no, it does not make sense. I asked him if he would try to go to Church with me, and he said yes he will.
It really is a miracle, I had started to feel less hopeful about that prayer being answered, but God wants to bring people to Him. And though this life is sometimes so difficult, and this world sometimes so mean, it only makes sense that there is divine plan behind it. The ironic thing the pain in this world is like a medicine which also strengthens the soul. Through the pain and suffering, we become stronger, just as a man lifting weights has pain, soon the muscles start to grow strong. It is the same with the soul. This life is difficult, but it is also blissful if we choose to see the good things also. There are many aspects of Faith that I can not explain, because it is a experience and a deep love in the heart, it is just knowing absolutely that God exist, even when we do not know His ways!
As Saint Augustine said, “Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.”

Not that it matters, but I recalled the Butz remark differently, and googled “loose shoes” to find it. That’s the line that puzzled me at first hearing it, then figured it out.
