Major Norwegian newspaper VG (vg.no) today have prison authorities confirm that mostly women send letters to Anders Breivik, the anti islamist who killed 77 people in 2011. Many of the letters are love declarations.
In the paragraph “Get [receives] letters from all over the world”:
It reads:
– He gets all kinds of letters. Senders [“Spammers” like Google Translate suggests is not the word used] are from all continents, some are very young, most of them are women, he gets some declarations of love, but the majority of the letters express support for his political views, says Hillesland.

Whenever Breivik is brought up I can’t help but think: countless young Arab men boast online about how they are going to kill people for political reasons, and at the most they manage to kill one or two. One White guy acting alone decides to do the same, and he kills seventy-seven people in one day. By methodical, careful planning where he teaches himself about explosives, tactics, and scouts the terrain.
Now, he is a proud Mason who describes himself as a “Christian Zionist”, pro-Israel with no links to real nationalism. The closest he came to any such link was signing up for the Nordisk forum, where he didn’t write about committing violence, because if he had people would have discouraged him. It was a counter-productive and attention-seeking act. Nevertheless. Talk about difference in competence. Any one of the Arabs or Pakis could have done the same, with other targets, but that would have required patience and intelligence.

Tangentially off topic, but this theory of women loving bad boys reminds me of the Hitchcock film, Suspicion.
The wife, who’s repressed before meeting Mr. Grant, is constantly suspicious that he’s a murderer and will kill her. The whole film is framed to her suspicion until it is revealed that he’s trying to kill himself. Not sure where I read it, whether in the Truffaut book or another Hitchcock book, but the plan was for him to have planned on killing her all along, with the murder implied just before the end.
But, despite the fact that she feels deep down that her life’s in danger, she still hangs around. Hitch was a master at bringing the psyche of a character and cinematizing (to invent a phrase) this brilliantly. I gotta watch this film again.

In pure game terms Breivik is not a jerkboy, he doesn’t exhibit any of the characteristics of a suave Don Juan, he’s a lady-killer for sure, but not in the traditional sense. Apparently he had no sexual contact with women since 2002 (apart from prostitutes), he was also a recluse who stayed at home playing world of warcraft.
He was a depressed loser, and now the only thing going for him in the applied charisma stakes is his infamy. Girls for sure dig a jerkboy, but in this case you have attributed his young-girl love proposals to Jerkboy where as I would attribute it to fame.

What is so out of sorts with his actions and story is how little the press touched on it after the shock wore off. We got the first reports, then a few huffy snarks about his background, then radio silence. No follow up. Hell I still don’t know precisely what they were teaching at that camp, outside of ooey gooey leftism with Micky Mouse ears on it.

think about the way stories are assigned…in order for this incident to get exposure, a bunch of lefty news editors have to think about the incident and understand it enough to decide to pursue or not…

I just read that after the actor Richard Widmark appeared in a movie where he pushed an old woman in a wheelchair down the stairs while laughing maniacally he suddenly started receiving lots of fan mail from young females. Life magazine reported on this at the time in complete puzzlement why that would be.
