I don’t think many of the moderate muslims or the supposedly assimilated or peaceful ones are as guilt free as people suppose. They all tend to think of the UK and US as having very evil military forces, and the Israelis as conspiratorial child killers. They also tend to have a neutral outlook on terrorist attacks, at very best. For example, they might say that 9/11 was provoked by the US, they also might say that Charlie Hebdo was provoking them so it nullifies or justifies the terrorist attacks. They also tend to think that western society is racist and they are oppressed and deserve special treatment. All of this despite never having taken part in an attack and perhaps being a normal law abiding subject. I don’t want people to suddenly stop using reason when they look at muslim peoples and decide they are all terrorists etc but I do want to use the western tradition of examining things critically and I want to point out that just dividing them in to terrorists and peaceful non terrorists isn’t completely just. I at least have never come across a ‘moderate’ muslim who loves the west, loves the western military, and staunchly defends it.
