it’s because women are now growing up hearing everyone tell them are beautiful perfect princesses no matter what they look like and no matter how they behave.
i’ve for sure had some issues with the way my mother did things growing up and i used to sympathize when my sister would complain about how critical she was of her.
but now i know that she was actually doing her a huge favor. she told my sister to stop eating so much when she started getting chubby, she called her out on her rude bitchy behavior. she told her when she was dressed badly and needed to fix her hair.
my sister used to say our mom hurt her self esteem by doing all that and even went on and on about it when she was in therapy for awhile.
but you know what? my sister has grown up to be a pretty great lady. she takes care of herself, stays slim, she’s well-mannered, and has locked down a good guy.
my mom was doing her job. the way a parent should. and i know my sister is grateful for that now even if she won’t admit it.
