Very good point. Would you say that what you are suggesting is a conscious feminist aim, or an unfortunate symptom? Law, like many professions, has lost a lot of its prestige since the advent of feminism but I don’t think lawyers were ever quite as universally reviled they are today. Its obvious that the legal profession is perceived as being institutionally corrupt, but is it any more corrupt than it ever really was? And if so does the increase in that corruption correlate directly with the increase in the numbers of female/feminist lawyers?
Your trophy analogy makes me think of the equine/slut one; who wants the horse anyone can ride.

It is conscious. Women are interested in men with high status jobs such as lawyer, doctor, director, etc. These jobs have a lot of prestige. As well, science and engineering are more highly valued. You notice that feminists are not interested in increasing numbers of women in coal mines but rather high paying, elite, technology jobs, law jobs, and doctors. The decision may stem from the belief that men have that they can acquire status, whereas women’s is based mostly on how they look. But feminism targets jobs specifically. They say it is because certain jobs are ‘unequal’ which isn’t a good enough reason, really, what they mean is they want high status. Lawyers, whether corrupt or not since I really don’t know much about what it is like now, in the past were associated with politicians, high salaries, and large social networks with other high status people. It was a princely profession. military careers held the same status but of course that is another location there is pressure to increase the ranks of women in.

Good discussion. My feeling is that the increasing presence of women tends to balkanize the professions. On average women are less aggressive than men, so that even though entry into the professions tends to select for a relatively aggressive subset of women, they still settle predominatly into lower income, lower status niches: family medicine/pediatrics/psychiatry versus surgery; family law versus corporate, etc.
In the 1950’s there were probably about half the number of doctors and lawyers per capita as now, but the net usefulness to society was about the same, because half the new doctors and lawyers tend to be drones, shuffling documents around in the manner of modern life. A dispropotionate number of these dronish professionals are women.
In the 50’s it was enough to be a doctor or lawyer to be relatively high status; now you need to be in the right specialty.
As for the effect on female mate-seeking, because of hypergamy and the limited supply of high-status men, it’s the no-win situation for feminists documented so effectively here and by people live Devlin: the more credentialed women get, the higher status husbands they feel they deserve, the more those high status men will prefer younger, less credentialed, more attractive, more feminine women.

Sean, I was going to comment on relationships as you touch on. Sometimes the word Oneitis is almost overused in a negative way. Any guy with a wife or girlfriend had at one point some degree of Oneitis or else they would not of got into the relationship. The difference is that it was calibrated. In other words when I have been in a LTR there were times especially at the beginning that I had that high going but had the wisdom to pull things back.

Take a look at USAID, the U.K.’s DFID, World Bank, IMF and the non-profit foundations (Ford, Hivos, Open Society, etc.) they march arm-in-arm with.
