If you say the word ‘beauty’ around modern artists, they get very angry, very quickly because they think the need for beauty is some sort of human weakness and they want to separate themselves from that. to some extent, idiotic conservatives are weak, but that wasn’t what motivated people to create beautiful art in the first place. So artists make ugly things because right now the purpose is to deliberately disavow what was done in the past and take a stab at the hoi polloi that desire beauty. It’s their way of separating the wheat from the chaff. The more disgusted or disturbed or confused or let-down that people are, the more successful the art. i agree. it’s a very complex topic but I believe the link between say, marxism, gay rights, and ugly leftist art is hate. marxism is hate of the 1%, gay rights is hate of traditional mores particularly Christian ones(seldom do they go after muslims in fact never) and art is hate of the traditional desire to make beautiful things. these things actually all go hand in hand. it was the 1% that often commissioned the creation of beautiful art.
