The point – the connection between gun laws/gun ownership and murder rates is bollocks. Many countries with stricter gun laws than the U.S. have higher murder rates. The U.S. has been propping up kleptocrats all over the Middle East, in exchange for them turning a blind eye to the Palestinian genocide. The few Middle Eastern nations that have stood up for the Palestinians have been either invaded or sanctioned.

But these new Islamists are not pro-Palestinian like bin Laden was, but simply anti-Shia. So Israel approves of them, since Shia Iran opposes Israel’s machinations. And if Israel approves, then Washington approves. Washington turned a blind eye to when rich top brass among its allies, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar, funded ISIS. Washington has given money to “secular rebels” that are distributed to all the rebel groups, including al-Nusra and ISIS. Washington ignored the fact that Turkey sent weapons and ammunition to ISIS, to have them fight the Kurds and the Shia Alawites.
Syria was sanctioned since 2004, which devastated its economy, and an oil embargo in 2011 took away 70 percent of the country’s exports. This led to an economic crash that paved way for the “rebels”, who are actually Iraqi invaders.
And these Iraqis are aided by Israel. Not only does Israel illegally bomb the Syrian government, Israel’s army has also given medical aid and shelter to many hundreds of al-Nusra fighters, on the Israeli side of the border. Israeli officials have said they prefer an Islamist win in Syria.
But the U.S. has been forced to make some tame bombing runs against ISIS – though without hurting its income source, the oil fields. (“Could damage the oil infrastructure.”) And this doesn’t sit well with the fighters, since the bomb runs, insufficient as they are, do kill some ISIS fighers.
So of course some ISIS members, and their sympathizers, will fight back. Not only against the U.S. but also against France, which has also done some bombing runs. Amazing that Hollande calls the Paris bombings an “act of war”, and people ignore that France was the first to commit acts of war.
Of course, not all recruits will be motivated solely by idealism. As always you take what you can get. And some of them will simply be people who failed at life in the West, and seek some way to attach themselves to something bigger.
Alas, the distinctions between different Islamists – bin Laden’s old idealistic type, the Israel-approved anti-Shia type, the honest sympathizers and the ones who are simply immigrant trash who couldn’t make it in the West – is lost on most people. They don’t even understand that millions of Muslims in Syria and Iraq oppose these factions far more than the U.S. and it’s Sunni allies have done. They go “Muslims hate us for our freedom! It’s Jihad!” without knowing what their own government supports, directly or indirectly. Amazing. Most people both to the Left and to the Right are dumb beyond belief and think it is too much trouble to read up on the history of these things, even after so many years.
A final note: Arabs used to love the U.S., who they saw as anti-imperialist. The Arabs had been invaded by French, British and Ottomans, but the U.S. opposed empires. Then the U.S. funded and armed the Zionists that killed thousands of Palestinians. The Arabs couldn’t believe it – how could this happen? Not only that, but the U.S. supported every tyrant they could find, provided that said tyrant ignored the Palestinians. In Egypt for example the U.S. has long supported and financed the military’s hegemony, since the generals keep the border closed to the Gaza strip in order to starve it.
And while many Arabs opposed Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, they were appalled by what followed, twelve years of starvation sanctions and bombings of Iraq’s infrastructure on average once a week, causing the death of half a million children, which Zio Madeleine Albright said was “worth it”.
Yet even so the majority of Gulf Arabs, 60 percent, held a positive view of the U.S. Then came the Iraq invasion. At that point most people lost their remaining illusions.

Not one of them grasps that these shootings keep happening in gun free zones, where white men are disarmed, or that 99% of all stranger-danger rapes and murders are black on white or black on black, etc.

My problem with Black Friday was that I could not find anything actually on sale. Certain retailers always have good prices, but they did not actually have anything on super sale on that day or all weekend. I even called them on it. Their advertisements were BS–looking like things were “marked down” from MSRP, but if one monitors prices, one knows that is the price they always have on that item.

Just read the dissent. Scalia is, to use a term of art, “based”. Amazing dissent. The one thing I wish he’d touched on is that homosexuality is a PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE as much or more than it is a moral or liberty issue. Other than that, it was a pitch perfect dissent.

Any pre-emptive strikes carried out by the security apparatus is useless in preventing these terrorist attacks, because pre-emptive strikes are usually with groups or formations who are usually caught in the course of planning, preparation, and before implementation, which the act fails before it happens.
But this is not the case with a lone wolf and that alone is everything he is. He plans and attends and performs without dispensing any information.
Even the people closest to him, as his wife or his father or his mother are not made aware of his plans. He keeps everything in his mind as part of the plan until such time when the bomb is to explode.

As a many year Life Member of the NRA, I completely agree about GOA. The NRA’s (read: the NRA’s highly paid executives) prime directive is to protect the interests of the NRA (read: their cushy jobs). Accordingly, they not only welcome, they NEED constant attempts to infringe gun rights to keep the rubes stirred up and the money flowing in.
GOA does not currently have the same institutionalization problem. It’s the best organization to support if you have to choose.
