Tucked in a great thread discussing the banality of White SWPL virtue signaling is this comment from Ricin Beans,
I said in the shoutbox earlier that contemporary society encourages snark about things that should be considered sacred, and sentimentality about things that call for hard headed realism.
It’s all part of the leftoid SWPL’s escape from any reality that would challenge their concocted religion: Equalism, and its core tenets Race and Sex Creationism. In practice, it means a complete turning of their backs on their ancestors and their heritage, and a betrayal of their descendants (what few they leave).
The good news, if there is to be any, is that the SWPL Equalism religion, founded on a falsifiable view of their relationship with the material world rather than on a transcendent view of one’s relationship with the supernatural world, won’t last very long. Factual counter-evidence too conspicuous to ignore or sarcastically dismiss will inevitably, after an initial frenetic burst of indignant piety upon confrontation, hollow out the emotional bond liberals have to their equalism religion and many will drift from the flock, harmlessly neutering themselves and the social damage they’re capable of inflicting.
For the others, those too committed to their virtue signaling and delusions about humanity to ever lapse from their pattern repudiation faith, the stone cold material world they uphold as their malleable Heaven will crush their hopes, over and over, until the will to life abandons them. Something we see already happening in the cratering birth rates of the most zealous Equalism followers.

tteclod, I agree. We have been duped in believing that we need religion in order to counter the religious death cult known as Islam. We don’t. I also do not believe that we should peddle a lie to counter a bigger lie. Our race and culture speak for itself, and either we have racial pride, and national pride (based, largely in part, on race, of course), or we don’t and we go down the proverbial shitter. Look at France’s ‘national’ soccer team playing against Portugal right now. Half the team is coal-black Africans, in NO WAY connected to the history of France. Yet, the French will cheer on ‘their’ team because the spear chuckers are wearing blue uniforms with the French flag on them. What an embarrassment. Much of the West is operating on the fumes from past greatness. If you took everyone out of France, England, etc.; took away all the art, historical buildings, modern amenities; and then put everyone back, does anyone really believe they could recreate it all? Accident? Just tired of it? No, it was WWI and WWII, when people saw that so-called Christian nations, who on top of that were for the large part racial brothers, decided to line up and destroy each other instead of fight for peaceful resolutions. All too eager to slaughter each other under the banner of your Christ. Many said, rightly, what a bunch of bullshit, and years on…what a bunch of lies and waste of life. Religion, once again, used as a means to get the herd to do the will of the politicians. Never again will brother fight brother! I grew up with soccer, but the sport lost much of its’ appeal right around the 1990’s or thereabouts, for precisely those reasons.
Few of the current teams – especially national or ‘premier’ league teams – have any connection anymore to the towns or neighborhoods they are originally supposed to represent, they’re basically all just international all-star teams.
‘Franchises’, if you will.
On a larger scale, even as a kid and teen in 1970’s/80’s Europe, I noticed that there really wasn’t any such thing as modern European culture.
Pretty much everything you might define as culture was either a lukewarm re-hash of something from before WW I or a lame copy of something American or simply imported directly from the US, without any attempts to modify it.
Seems like the Euros didn’t really know what to do with themselves in a post-imperial world, and many still don’t.

There is a God shaped hole in all normal psyche. It is filled one way or the other. Those that lack that hole tend to be atheists, who interestingly enough are found to have an empathy level approaching that of psychopaths. No civilization or culture can survive based on the views of psychopaths – there has to be some interest in family and tribe or it will fall apart in adversity. An example is modern society – denying God and cutting natural ties. Elders are not respected and often don’t act in ways deserving of respect. The worst shiv to a woman over 35 is to see a man her age (or in her perceived age-group dating pool – which is anyone at or over her age) with a younger women – especially a much younger woman, because she realizes that the power has shifted, and that she has NO power over that man (since sexual desire and favors is the biggest motivator of men), and therefore she must hurl contempt and insults at him to prevent other men from making a similar move. It appears that the sum total of what human beings have done in the 20th C – including “changing” human nature – has been essentially an Ozymandias project, its only posterity being ruins.

This suggest that the vast majority of reinforced-concrete structures in the world – buildings, bridges, roads and dams, sport complexes, entire fucking cities – will become either worthless or not worth maintaining well before the end of this century.
The upside is that with many fewer than 7 billion people, we aren’t going to need all that infrastructure anyway.

There is nothing wrong with reinforced concrete….a reinforced concrete structure will outlast anything else other than stone. Wood and steel frame structures without maintenance would be long gone before equivalent structures out of reinforced concrete.
Think about it….if the argument is that eventually corrosion of the steel will destroy the structure…how is that any worse than a steel structure its self. At least the reinforcing steel has inches of concrete to protect it. Its like paint but thinker.
Take any structure out of any other material other than stone and put it next to those pictures of decaying reinforced concrete structures in severe marine environments. They’d be absolutely gone. Look at anything made of steel or wood that is not maintained or permanently underwater.

The point to be taken from my comment and from the article is that societies, in all of their manifestations, require maintenance. Certain parts of modern society – from the extravagant built modern environments to the insane fantasies of the left – are too costly to maintain and will therefore inevitably decay.
The linked article puts a timeline on one aspect of the unsustainable way that we have lived these last one hundred years. By analogy – engineers often seem not to understand them – the same things that have permitted rampant marxist insanity have also permitted the massive expansion of concrete world.
With re to your final words of dismissal: “Junk science”. This conclusion does not follow from the points you adduce in your comments.

Concrete does not protect steel from corrosion: concrete in contact with steel corrodes steel. I don’t write that to be an asshole, but simply to inform you of something you may not know because so many of us (my younger self included) do not recall subtleties of chemistry, and these subtleties invariably do us harm.
In certain environments, such as marine structures, (competent) engineers alter the concrete mix design to decrease to porosity of the final concrete. This does not, of itself, protect the steel reinforcement, so the reinforcement is often coated with a “seal” to inhibit steel corrosion.

Here’s my opinion as a structural engineer.
1. With few exceptions, buildings are not intended to survive centuries. Builders should contemplate a maintenance, repair, and replacement schedule for every building. For most people, a structural life of 100 years is sufficient. For some, 20-40 years is plenty.
2. Cost-effective alternatives are not readily available: wood is not equivalent, modern masonry is also steel reinforced, Steel may be a viable alternative, but doesn’t really solve the foundations problem. Unreinforced brittle materials do not fare well in earthquakes and high-wind events. 3. The linked article mentions alternative materials and cathodic protection. Alternative materials, as mentioned above, are not readily available. Cathodic protection has merit, but I’ve not personally explored it. I do expect to see cathodic protection added to the building codes in 10-20 years. Also, Cathodic protection may be installed AFTER THE FACT and arrest further damage.
4. Masonry, for all it’s strengths, deteriorates. I have a meeting tomorrow to discuss “what to do” about exactly such an issue related to mortar deterioration.
If there’s a change to be made, it’s an assessment of which buildings must remain functional “indefinitely” and which (most) may have a lifespan, and what that lifespan should be. I am confident my great-grandfather did not intend his barns to last into this century, 40 years past his death, but they’re still there, rotting away.
The broad lesson, gentlemen, is that men must maintain civilization, else all falls to ruin.

Years ago I read an apocalyptic novel where a comet strikes the Earth. Civilization is reduced to tribes — some groups become marauding nomads, some try to protect themselves and restore pockets of civilization. It’s brutal.
There’s an uppity female character. One of the men says “Sister, women’s lib got terminated when the comet hit.” (Bear in mind the novel was written in the 70s).
Feminism is not natural. It will not last one way or another. The UK/USA/Aussie will become 3rd world shitholes, the muzzies will take over, or both.

Moses, feminism (what a misnomer, if I ever heard one) is a parasitic philosophy, totally incapable of surviving and expanding through its own adherents. Instead, it had to attach to a healthy body State, and leach from its resources, all the while sucking the life out of it.
If all men disappeared, how could women…and feminists specifically, keep the lights on? They simply could not. Ignoring the dangers of unmanned (literally) nuclear reactors, dams, and such, civilization would come to screeching halt, and within 1 month there would be The Walking Dead sorts of chaos. Food shortages, disease, death, mayhem. Clams gonna clam.
I need to find that book. Sounds like a good read. Conan was written 50+ years ago, but its still a classic adventure, so maybe your book is not so dated as you may think. Danke.

Lucifer’s Hammer was written by Jerry Pournelle. While some of it is dated, the science is still sound. Other works by him that should be on your list are any of his future history stories (The Mercenary, West of Honor, Oath of Fealty, High Justice (twofer)). Great stuff. He is working with Castalia House (Vox Day’s publishing house) to re-release the There Will Be War series and even doing an addition to the series. Castalia House has a ton of good stuff and can be found on Amazon or their site.

Every great civilization that has fallen is due to one thing the demographic that made it great was overrun by people less intelligent, less hard working, different culture. The Egyptian culture that designed and built the pyramids were white and blacks were used for labor and then they mixed and down they went. Same with Romans, Aztecs, Mayas etc. The US won’t last another 100 years with the importation of Africans and Muslims.

This is true when the fairy tale is still pointing at something true in the universe. We tell our children silly things to get them to behave. Like the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny, Santa, etc. But the adults in the room still know better.
This is why Christianity can be OK at times but we must remember that it is still a crutch and becomes silly and ineffective when abused. The cosmos is indiffernent so deal will it. The Romans didn’t put up with that bullshit.
