What if someone took the “Post-Modern” method and turned it against itself? THE RECKONING: THE LEGEND OF MCCOY MOUNTAIN AND THE GOLD 45 REVOLVER seems to do just that.
Imagine, if you will, a script for a movie that obviously recalls THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. But it seems to be a parody? Ah, you say to yourself, a horror-comedy. How avant-garde! With additional references to, let’s say, the Leone/Eastwood Westerns, and Guns’n’Roses, and even maybe a little Dante? It’s pastiche, right? It’s hip, it’s funny, and it’s probably all “just a joke”, right? Harmless fun for the Sundance family!
THE RECKONING is a remarkable journey that begins by pretending it might actually be all those things and nothing more. Part of the insidious genius of its method is how it uses this cloak of “knowing appropriation” to lure its readers (or potential future viewers) into a state of trusting complacency, indulging them with a lot of knowing winks and funny asides (and this IS, quite often, excruciatingly funny) before springing upon them an incredible trap. For THE RECKONING is indeed playing for high stakes, and for keeps– yet it’s only at perhaps the half-way mark that the unwary audience finally begins to recognize, with a shiver of disturbance, that the whole thing truly is not what it seemed.
But back to the beginning. Mary McCoy is an ambitious graduate student, seeking glory as an auteur in the independent film world. We first meet her reciting the words of Abraham Lincoln into a camera operated by her nameless boyfriend. The young lovers are playful, but show signs of fraying on each other’s nerves. There are also signs they each are uncomfortable with their selves– the lack of purpose, of exalted ideals, endemic to contemporary culture. Mary in particular is given to earnest speeches and recitations, but it’s unclear how well she believes in these things. Does she take the lessons of poets and heroes from the past to heart, or are they to her just the literary flotsam of her expensive education?
The subject of their movie is the haunted legend of Mary’s Civil War-era forebear, Johnny Ranger McCoy. Mary‘s attitude is ambiguous: does she truly revere the memory of this ancestor, or is his story just a prop for her to use to make her name? Is the legendary haunting just a rural myth, or does his spectre still haunt the mountain? And was old McCoy a hero and martyr, or a hateful figure of shame?
These are questions the story leaves tantalizing the reader for many pages, and their relevance expands as the story continues and the cast enlarges. THE RECKONING engages in a clever game of push/pull with its audience, introducing serious themes and then dosing out shots of outrageous satire, leaving the spectator increasingly curious yet strangely dazed, as secrets from the past, conflicting accounts, and disturbing temptations start to mount for our protagonists. Yet it’s not until perhaps past the halfway mark that we truly realize we are now in terra incognita: a frightening, darkling matrix of divided loyalties, disclosed betrayals, and potentially murderous mayhem all–possibly–overlooked by a supernatural force that is testing them and finding them wanting. The Post-Modernism has, all of a sudden, stopped being a game–but without our heroes getting warned beforehand. And if they are to be saved, they will have to arm themselves with an ancient wisdom, recharging from a source they are terrified to confront.
Without giving too much away, I think I can say THE RECKONING is a story about transformation. But the transformations in question are so complex as to defy easy summary. The difficulty of redemption seems itself to be a principal theme here, and at times, in the thick of recriminations, we may wonder who the real hero is. Readers (or future viewers) are likely to come away with a lot to argue about, perhaps with questions that will demand a second read (or viewing) even to come to grips with. Yet THE RECKONING offers so many challenges to the complacent “narrative” of modern society–a society it reveals to be stricken with a plague of evils, some covert, others hidden in plain sight– that the sheer weight of its indictment forces a response. Add to that the fact it is excruciatingly funny, in a way to provoke riotous laughter sometimes before the meaning even sneaks across the threshold of consciousness, and we have in THE RECKONING a positively “dangerous” book, and a movie Hollywood would sooner burn than release. And yet, who knows?–perhaps one day it will be made.
So with that said, what can we offer as a hint to THE RECKONING’s final purpose? Homer’s ILIAD begins by invoking the righteous wrath of Achilles; Odysseus struggles to return and reclaim his hearth and home. Moses ascends the mountain to receive the law from God. And Prince Hamlet must communicate with a father’s spirit, back from the dead, in order to expose the incestuous corruption at the heart of a fallen kingdom. I cite all these, not to demonstrate I stayed awake during Great Books (in fact, I started to sleep in instead of trudging off to class once they started in on Toni Morrison novels lolz), but because I suspect all of these exalted precedents were in the back of the author’s mind and inform the story he sets forth. Come to think of it, many of them are right there on the page! And while their relevance to the story might at first seem confusing to the initial reader, by the end they should take on an alarming urgency.

I like that expression on the Chicago cop’s phiz, but I’m surprised he lets anyone, let alone two simian-lookin’ shitskins, get up in his face like that.
Most cops I know, the minute you brush up against them, it’s a good ol’ fashioned ass-whuppin’, as well as YOU being charged for assaulting an officer.
Then again, I imagine in that setting he was given orders to stand down except for the most egregious of violence.

Yeah, the Chicago police are being recorded 24/7 and any touching of dindus will get them on the nightly news due to a few recent cases.

Coworker recently visited Chicago for vacation and I overheard her talking to her boss about it. Boss said “she loves Chicago” but I’m wondering which areas she was hinting at.
Isn’t Elm St the line of demarcation, that anything east of that to Lake Michigan is the only nice area? (Forgive any mistakes in geography, I’m going based on what I’ve read.)

Chicago is basically 2 different cities. Stay away from the south side and you’re mostly fine. I’ve never had any dindu issues and have spent my entire early 20s there every weekend. Cook county is ultimately doomed financially but Illinois as a whole is doomed.

I thought his timing could have been better. Today is Kate’s Law Day and the Criminal Illegal Act – two important pieces of the immigration agenda. Kate was killed because the shitlib elite did not force the laws. I thought Trump should have been more dignified today and made this the main talking points of the day.
Plus I know quite a few blue pilled who are on the fence with Trump but moan about him being “not Presidential”. They could vote for him in 2020 if he just let up on the attacks. Whether we like it or not, a lot of people vote on personalities not on policies.
[CH: cucks gonna cuck, but tbh trump’s personality is a big reason why i voted for him. i will be sad if he lets up on the gas attacks.]

Yeah… it’s a nonstop snarkfest making remarks about Trump, and when he pays them back in the coin of the realm, they clutch pearls about how “undignified” it is, and “doesn’t he have anything better to do?”
Kek icing in how the lack self-awareness, not realizing they’re pointing three of their own fingers back at themselves.

The Unclouded Beauty photo reminds me of something nice I saw last Sunday morning. It was a beautiful day as I was leisurely driving east on old Hwy 6 in NE Ohio, and as I passed around and through Chardon, Ohio’s gorgeous downtown square I glanced left toward the lovely Victorian courthouse and saw beneath the big maple trees a nicely-dressed (and slim!) young mother and father walking hand-in-hand with their three very small children. The little boy was wearing a tie just like his Old Man, and the mom and girls all had on pretty dresses. They were smiling and laughing and were totally “in the moment” with each other, and it was obviously just so wholesome and right that I actually had to slow down some while I teared up a bit. For a second there I had a glimpse of what our country used to be from sea to shining sea. Please, God, can we get that back?

Nice post… reminded me how, about 30 years ago, I was driving near Columbus, OH and a kindergarten class of about twenty were walking together behind their teacher, and one or two monitors behind.
Every child… and I mean EVERY one of ’em… were golden towheads like in the second picture of this “Welcome Back, America”.
Although most folks back then wouldn’t have thought twice about such a scene, I had just gotten out of the Army (my awakening), and knew that this precious image would become ever more rare as the years went on.

THANK YOU! For years I thought America doomed, watching the slow, and recently faster moral, cultural, and political decay. I saw no one fighting to stop it, except for a few learned men who did little more than write scathing articles. But that’s not enough. We needed action.
And once I saw Trump rise to power, I thought differently. Even before he won the election, I had a sneaking suspicion that maybe, just maybe, we might still be saved.
(After typing up this comment, I realize CH was one of the “learned men writing scathing articles.” Because of his far reach, he probably did more than any of us realize, what with the 10% rule and all.)

Don’t like that first pic. The cops are the guards of this multicultural, anarcho-tyrannical insane asylum. I do not think they’re on our side. I recently had to call my city council member to get my local PD to do something to enforce a restraining order I had served on some dope-dealing, Dominican scumbag, because they kept making lame excuses why they couldn’t do anything.
They have all the time in the world, though, to investigate the words “fuck wetbacks” spray-painted on a wall by some poor guy who probably just got jumped and beaten by a bunch of illegal aliens–which they were probably utterly uninterested in investigating, too.

That may be to some extent and in some places. But we *need* them on our side.
The Left has taken up political violence. That’s a weak hand but let them continue. After all, they are all about subversion.
Let us be a force for Law and Order. It’s a long-term winning hand.

Speaking of “Welcome Back, America”, I have a small bit of genuinely good news:
Yesterday our engineering firm was contacted by a military contractor we’ve worked with before to give them an estimate for a design fee for structural engineering services and a construction fee for a proposed mockup of the Border Wall itself! (I thought we had missed the boat on that one, but I guess not. The contractor probably needs a sub who knows what they are doing…)
For those who want some info to incorporate into their day-dreaming, U.S. Customs and Border Protection states that the nominal desired wall height is 30 feet, and furthermore it must extend 6 feet below grade (to deter digging). If our services are secured, we would be designing the [solid] concrete option.
So despite the delays and dearth of news, this seems to really be happening. I was so jazzed last night that instead of falling asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow (since I habitually enjoy the untroubled slumber of the righteous), I lay awake for 1.5 hours before I could fall asleep, thinking about all the ways I could engineer the shit out of this.
If we get this contract (and I don’t know how likely that will be – lot of factors outside our firm’s control) I solemnly vow to do my part to make sure it is a rousing success, if that means putting in overtime – hell, putting in UNPAID overtime, I’ll gladly contribute if it means that Wall goes up a bit faster and stronger.

On a positive note – any soccer fans out there..
Germany’s U21 team are in the final this weekend of the European Cup.
They also sent basically a C team (made up of young players) to the Confederations Cup (a world cup warm up) and these kids beat a lot of international A teams and are now in the final too.
The A team of course are the current world champions.
So Germany basically have 35 players or 3 teams that would beat most other nations.
Unfortunately about 25% non Germanic players but you do with the best you got.
Anyway what I love is the media praising the Germanics of it all – the German national team still portray the best of Germanic culture – efficiency, hard work, good early start, strong worth ethic, comradeship, fitness, never say die, intelligence, athleticism, organization, master planning, assertiveness and confidence/arrogance…also lots of comment from non whites on how tall the players are.
What the German Football body did over the last 17 year sis interesting. The German clubs had a lot of non-German players so the German started investing billions in youth football in the hope that German players would rise uber alles.
it seems it is taking fruition. Unfortunately non whites born in Germany can jump on board.
But like Germany, Trump wants to invest in skilled youth here in US so American workers will become highly skilled and we will not need H1Bs.
[CH: i was about to say…are you rooting for germany or for greater africa?]
