A number of years ago I tried on a street pick up on a very attractive young woman. I failed to get her number but she took mine. This is not usually a good sign so I just forgot about it and was surprised about two weeks later to get a message from her asking me to meet her for coffee. My job at the time gave me a lot of freedom so I blew off work and went to meet her.
I wasn’t at the coffee shop long when she turned up and she looked great. She had a lovely curvy figure, nice legs, and a sweet face. Very feminine. And she was wearing a skin-tight stretchy black knee-length dress and high heels. She had made an effort for a coffee shop meet up. A very good sign. This woman was an obvious man-pleaser.

Then, it cools again, for one reason or the other.
Based on the models I’ve seen, we are currently in a warming period that started around 1800, at which time mean temps were somewhat below average and had been for about 4-500 years.
At this very moment, we seem to be ever so slightly above average, but nowhere near the Common Era high of about 12-1300.
Musta been a heckuva lot warmer still when the dinosaurs were around, eating leaves the size of school buses……

It’s encouraging to see Peterson’s reputation grow in these quarters because he is the only evolutionary psychologist worth listening to. He has a firm grasp on the difference between science and ¡SCIENCE! (scientism), and he is honest enough to understand the difficulties that most evolutionists elide in their pursuit of nerdboy triumphalism of the Neil-DaGroid-Tyson and I-FUKKING-LOVE-SYUNCE varieties.

Matt, I am fascinated to find that you align with Peterson regarding science, religion and truth.
I must confess that my brain has been shaped like that of an empirical scientist, such that Peterson’s definition of “truth” initially appeared to me to be a non-sequitur.
However, I fully understand his view now. Peterson views all truth be be based upon THE truth, or revealed truth in Christian terms. Very simply, if the truth does not lead to good, then it is a falsehood disguised as truth.
This view is extremely philosophical, and very difficult to promulgate to hard headed atheists.
Here is why.
We have truths that are observable and neither good nor evil, which we call “empirical truth”. These empirical truths are what Sam Harris is ardently defending in his scientific approach. It is indeed logically consistent, and in fact, the only way to view “truth” from the perspective of a scientist, who is merely a rational empiricist.
In order to reach Peterson’s “revealed truth”, we must add another layer of analysis on top of the empirical truth. The empirical truth, by itself, is neither good nor evil, but simply what we or any other existence observes in the physical world. For example, a dog is just as subject to gravity, thermodynamics and biology as we are. We can state a great many empirical truths about something without any need to question whether it is good or evil. In fact, we can state empirical truths about things which are unaffected by good or evil, such as distant stars and celestial bodies.
Thus to reach revealed truth, we must emphasize that it only applies to mankind, and only the version of mankind we know to have existed in recent memory. We can then judge whether an empirical truth is good or evil. For example, revealing Darwin’s theory of natural selection can clearly be viewed as evil, because it leads to nihilism and human despair. Thus, can be seen as a revealed falsehood.
But the key point to understand is that empirical truth exists quite independently of revealed truth, and in fact, applies not just to humans but to all existence. An alien race or an intelligent robot will agree on the same empirical truths, but each will have radically different sets of revealed truths.
As to which is more important?
At this point, the west is in dire need of revealed truth. We have had far too much empirical truth without the corresponding revealed truths to temper the nihilism which results from a raw empirical understanding of the universe devoid of any human considerations.
Harris is attempting to create revealed truths, which he calls morals, based on empirical truth. Whether this is achievable is quite up for debate, though my intuition says it is folly. Peterson on the other hand, is starting from revealed truth, and thus has an advantage in that every fact he espouses is based upon its propensity for good.
I will fully admit that science has failed us in the quest for revealed truth. Atheists like Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins have destroyed the scaffolding of human societies without offering any suitable alternatives. This has proven disastrous, and man’s soul has suffered immensely as a result. The path to salvation is unclear to me, but it most certainly is closer to the quest for revealed truth than to the blind promulgation of empirical truth.
TL;DR: The wages of sin is death.

I am not sure I align myself completely with him because, to his credit, he hasn’t posited anything beyond a tentative or “working” conclusion “for now” — much less declared himself for the faith. And yet that admitted agnosticism is the best place for a man, cursed by the modern sickness that makes one believe he and his intellect is in this alone, to be and lightyears ahead of the much larger crowd of smug sophists who not only put on airs of knowing everything but actually believe that they just might have cracked the code themselves. His operating methodology has been naturally socratic — all I know is I know nothing. And he has become wise because of it.
What remains for Peterson is to take the leap and accept “substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” which little children can do better than pitiful, aged intellectuals burdened with the idea of their own brilliance. Peterson has discovered the holy grail of scholarly investigation, which is the truth of religion. (Google “The queen of the sciences.”) What those too afraid to take the leap misunderstand is that once you skip ahead, there is no divine sanction against going back to honestly investigate the reasonableness of taking the leap.
Religion skips to the end, to the ultimate things, to the foundational conclusions without a working understanding of which nobody can operate. “It is impossible to live without a metaphysic” — A. Huxley. To people who devote their entire lives to carving out a different path to the same exact place, faith seems like an unfair, unearned privilege. And I suppose it is. We are so much dumber! And lazier! We don’t deserve access to the same wisdom!
For instance, you and I can say “the wages of sin is death” and live by it, but the intellectual has to scribble and struggle and strain his brain before acknowledging the truth that a drop of humility would have given him access to as a elementary school kid. The intellectual, the overeducated and hyperrational, the Darwinist, the young Peterson, has to reconstruct the universe of morality, has to study the behavior of lobsters and orangutans, and has to build up a Tower of Babel before satisfying himself that his effort was commensurate with the profundity of that truth, and that not only does such (unnecessary) effort give him access to truth, but that he has earned and deserves its sweetness.
The tragic irony of supple minds creates in them a greater and more feverish investment in their own vanity rather than the truth, which is the curse of the knowledge of good and evil. The truth requires them to start over, and they scoff at the Church’s cheat code as unbecoming a mind of their stature. They get older and no nearer their life’s goal, they become desperate and bitter and eventually despairing. Peterson was given the grace to escape this trap — maybe. He understands that Lucifer is always the intellectual, he has heeded the church’s warning against fashioning rationality into an idol above God and one’s faith in God. But as always, it remains for him alone to unite his will to The Way, The Truth, and The Life and thereby complete his salvation.

This passage encapsulates a point I’ve reached much better than my scattered thoughts were able to. However, I find myself falling into a vicious cycle of questioning myself because I am at once I’m new to game and yet over time I’ve realized as I read fellow comments and the CH repositories, I had understood some of the underlining concepts of game, but just didn’t know how to put the pieces together to see the whole picture.
In short, it’s paralysis by analysis and looking back on my life, I was at my strongest when I just riffed to riff, mainly for my own amusement and if a woman was lining up with my vibing, great. But those types of coordinations were few and far between.
Time to just grip and rip it again. As Han Solo once said: Never tell me the odds.

1-17 seems rather extreme – unless you’re talking rock concert numbers, 17 groupies for 1 lead singer – based on real life observations, I’d guess somewhere around 1-4 or 1-5.

I went to the original paper and found something very interesting:
“If not an effect of the numbers of competing males or simultaneously receptive females, how did high-ranking males more effectively monopolize reproduction in bonobos than chimpanzees? One possibility is that higher levels of male aggression in chimpanzees actually decrease reproductive skew.”

I’ve always wondered if, to some extent, a girl “friend zones” a guy just so she can have a shot at other guys (the friends of the dude she friend zoned).
Being way more social (and having to rely on others for protection) it seems to almost go against a woman’s nature to straight up deny the opportunity for a friendship, unless of course the guy is so socially inept that being seen with him would hurt her chances at future romance.
Adding another person to her circle means more chances to meet alpha dudes she wouldn’t have ever met.
Same reason so many guys preach about “social circle game”. It’s easier because it’s the same technique the ladies are using when perusing the sexual market for new goods.
..this isn’t all to say there aren’t demented harpies that don’t take full advantage of the friend zone.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but those historical (and pre-historical) “beta” males might have been dead, rather than incel. Primative societies are notorious for killing males via raid and/or feud, and capturing females as slaves and concubines.

I hypothesize that lack of violence leads to polyamorous societies. For example, if prohibition against violence is so string that infidelity goes unpunished and society prohibits cuckolds from taking vengeance, then women and cads may act without fear.
Introduce violence and the infidelity equation changes in favor of loyalty.

The animal pair bonding most similar to humans (including the occasional cheating by females) actually occurs among *birds*, which tend to have the same issues with very helpless offspring where paternal investment is valuable.

Wrong. Another way this happens- and its common in most mammals – the top male physically ensures this through violence against other males. Humans are unusual in the outsize role that female choice plays in mate selection.

Civilization is socially imposed hypogamy, down to say “only” 4 wives in Islam.
