(Dunbar’s Number is the upper limit on the number of social relationships the average person can comfortably sustain, and usually rounds to 150 people.) Maybe liberals and conservatives differ fundamentally on how well they can perceive threats beyond their immediate social circle. Shitlibs can only sense danger if it pierces their Dunbar Number, while conservatives can sense it farther off. What this may prove is that contrary to conventional wisdom it’s conservatives who have the imagination and open-mindedness to perceive things that fall outside their Dunbar sphere of influence and sensation, while shitlibs only see a mass of LoveWins refugees who randomly do bad stuff to random strangers who are of no concern to the shitlib. (This also gets at loyalty, which is stronger feeling in conservatives and better helps them identify threats from afar.)
For a perfect example of Dunbarred liberals, see the recent truck attack in Manhattan, in which the local shitlibs insisted to media whores that they were unaffected by the attack and it wouldn’t stop them from celebrating Halloween.

Oh, it’s far worse than that. What happened in VT was that the liberal mayor of Rutland, a blue-collar supermajority-white town, secretly conspired with an immigration non-profit to bring in 100 Syrians every year. He did not tell the town council. He did not tell anyone and concealed his plans, finally springing it as a fait accompli. The leader of the immigration non-profit is on record saying that it’s important to lie about these things otherwise people would oppose it.
When the town council and townspeople found out about it they were up in arms on the mayor. They had this crazy idea that the townspeople should have a say about resettling 100 Muslim, culturally foreign, possibly dangerous people into their community. Predictably, the left called them white racists, xenophobes, etc. The argument was also economic — “our work force is shrinking so we need to bring in incompatible aliens, they are the real Americans anyway not you who already live here and have for generations.”
The town booted the mayor in the next election.
At least 1 Syrian family has been resettled to Rutland. The lefties fell over themselves virtue-signaling and giving them free stuff like apartments, furniture, cars etc. Never mind that there are plenty of needy Vermonters already in Rutland. Lefties didn’t care about them before, and they don’t care about them now. Everyone knows that the alien Syrians are the “real Americans.”
We cannot live with these people. War is coming.

I actually live in the town (technically a very small city) you’re talking about and know many of the people involved very well. A few of them are even within my Dunbar circle.
Not to nitpick too much, but the vote was not exactly over whether refugees could live here. Unfortunately, we really don’t have a say in that.
It was actually a mayoral race where the 10 -year incumbent who signed us up for as many as 700 Syrian and Iraqi refugees (in a city of 15,000 people) was defeated by a roughly 2-1 margin by a challenger he had just beaten 2 years earlier.
Some people considered this a referendum on the refugees, but the fact is, even a lot of people who supported (or at least weren’t outright opposed) to bringing in refugees were really upset by the underhanded and secretive way the mayor went about it. Not only did he not tell the public of his plans, he didn’t even tell any members of the Board of Aldermen or even most of his closest advisers about it until the very end. Rather, he had a series of secret meetings with a refugee placement NGO and then, after it was a done deal, sprung it on everyone at a press conference. So, in a lot of ways it was more a reaction to the way the mayor handled it than to the refugees themselves.
He was also already losing popularity over some typical small town political bullshit regarding the firefighter’s union, which probably played a role.
Also, although the city is liberal compared to most towns of a similar size, it’s long been considered to be relatively conservative by Vermont standards. For example, when the Vermont legislature passed the bill legalizing homosexual civil unions in 2000, the City’s 4 Democrat representatives voted for it and our 1 Republican voted no. In the next election, all of the Democrats lost.
In sum, the mayor really had a lot going against him,
By the way, I did vote against him both because of how he handled things and because I don’t want the refugees coming here. Luckily, thanks to Trump’s travel ban, it looks like the number of refugees who actually end up here will be severely limited. Only 9 have come so far, and a few more may have got in the pipeline after the ban was struck down by the district court, but if the Supreme Court upholds the ban, that may be it.

From 2008-2016 in Texas, the GOP vote grew by 200k. The Dem vote grew by 300k. Trump won by >800k votes. At this rate, assuming nothing changes, Texas will turn blue in 64 years.
Remember also that Gary Johnson got a substantial number of votes.
The whole “Texas is turning blue” is a Liberal meme that panicky right wingers are falling for, like global warming. Florida has gotten more red, not blue. Always question the motives of agitprop like this.

800,000 votes is a small margin of error with a population of 27 million people. That’s only about 3%. From 2000-2005 the percent of hispanic only rose from 31% to 34%, then to 37% in 2010.

I was in Dallas in May on a bachelor weekend. Great city but on hitting the obligatory strip club, I was saddened by how average the women were and they were all hispanic. Every one of them. Now I will explain this chart. It shows GDP *minus* government debt in the United States since before the 1970s.
Note that when we subtract debt (we delete it because it is of course not really income), we see that the United States has been in a *depression* (not a recession) since 2012.
Note too that the rate of the addition of debt really started to take off in the early 1970s when the US went into peak (cheap) oil.

Everyone likes to say “demographics is destiny” but that is true only insofar as

Wrong question. It is more important to be aware that the pattern we get when it stops is not a nice Gaussian (?) distribution curve. No, what we get after overshoot is “die-off” and that takes the shape of a Seneca Cliff, as we see illustrated.
I hop everyone can see the point I am making here. Large numbers in demographics could mean nothing more than a more massive die-off.
Whites need to play it smart. It *is not* a demographic baby race (though that would be nice) for higher birth rates. What matters more than birth rates in a die-off situation is “survival rates”.
