The Department of Justice lost its latest battle with Congress Thursday when it allowed House Intelligence Committee members to view classified documents about a top-secret intelligence source that was part of the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign. Even without official confirmation of that source’s name, the news so far holds some stunning implications.
Among them is that the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation outright hid critical information from a congressional investigation. In a Thursday press conference, Speaker Paul Ryan bluntly noted that Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes’s request for details on this secret source was “wholly appropriate,” “completely within the scope” of the committee’s long-running FBI investigation, and “something that probably should have been answered a while ago.” Translation: The department knew full well it should have turned this material over to congressional investigators last year, but instead deliberately concealed it. Justice asked the White House to back its stonewall. And it even began spinning that daddy of all superspook arguments—that revealing any detail about this particular asset could result in “loss of human lives.”
This is desperation, and it strongly suggests that whatever is in these files is going to prove very uncomfortable to the FBI. […]

Thanks to the Washington Post’s unnamed law-enforcement leakers, we know Mr. Nunes’s request deals with a “top secret intelligence source” of the FBI and CIA, who is a U.S. citizen and who was involved in the Russia collusion probe. Ergo, we might take this to mean that the FBI secretly had a person on the payroll who used his or her non-FBI credentials to interact in some capacity with the Trump campaign.

all I see when I look out at the cultural landscape are folks on both sides calling for simple, pat solutions to complex problems. they want to substitute quick fixes of all sorts for doing the hard work of being accountable for future generations. nearly everyone is thinking of themselves, and what they want RIGHT NOW, downstream consequences be damned. there is no difference between the crisis actor “(white) violence is not the answer!” advocates and the “RAHOWA now!” advocates in that regard.

There was a report a few months ago (zerohedge IIRC) saying the mole was Carter Page all along. It detailed how he’d worked for the FBI before as an informant on a criminal case dealing with Russian mobsters and how the FBI ha sent him into the Trump campaign shortly after his first job wrapped up in court. Think about, FBI uses their informant who has “Russian ties” BECAUSE of his previous work for the FBI as a basis to claim that Trump has Russian connections and get a warrant to wiretap Trump! If true, we’re gonna need more rope. And a bigger tree. No wonder Hillary said Trump would hang them all if elected!

Greg is not so much black pill as “grey pill”, and often provides a necessary corrective to our occasionally irrational exuberance. I know that for me, the last eighteen months have been a manic-depressive roller coaster alternating between euphoria and despair. Also, his prose is crisp and concise (which I appreciate), his points are succinctly compelling, and his jests demonstrate genuine wit (even when occasionally fallen flat).
That said, Danger’s links are often thought provoking. Although I am personally not inclined towards CT, there is and always has been some weird shit surrounding the Clintons, particularly Hillary (“spirit cooking”, wtf?). If even some of it is true, the rabbit hole goes far deeper than many of us want to admit.
Except for the trolls (who are legion) we are all on the same side here.

Her Majesty’s Government has a lot of ‘splaining to do in the very near future, since it’s inconceivable that the UK’s MI5 Counter-Intel agency not to say MI6,
