That picture makes me sad. I watch old videos of interviews of high schoolers and college students from the 1950s and 60s, how much more intelligent and mature they were. I also watch the ‘ what will the future be like’ programs from this era, how much optimism they had. What technologies we could have had, had we not spent it on stupid liberal social policy.

Women are children and not adults. They will never be otherwise. They need a man to lead them. That is why it is important for men to be well raised and taught to be men. Even in the 40s and 50s there were a lot of failures as men and families suffered because of it. That failure to make all men high quality created the opening for what we have now. We will need to do better at raising men if we want to get this back and keep it too.

In Australia, I estimate that at least 95% of the clothes sold here are made in the factories of China.
Clothing sold here tens to fall into one of two main categories.
1) The cheap and nasty junk sold by the likes of Target and Kmart that does not last and will end up in the bin after a year or so of wear.
2) Overpriced “designer” sh*t and “fashion”.
Much of it covered in crass logos, poorly designed for the intended purpose, and lacking all semblance of classic styling.
I have no doubt that a good proportion of it ends up in commercial landfill, having never been sold because what does get sold is profitable enough to justify throwing out the rest.

Rick: I mean, take a look at the cultural dialogue that was going on at the time. People were lamenting the loss of “traditional” America even then. By the 1950s, women and minorities already had the right to vote, and non Anglo-Saxon immigration had been booming since the turn of the century. Culturally speaking, jazz and rock and roll were considered as much of a negative influence on the youth as rap music is today. Young women were even then wearing clothes and dancing in ways that scandalized their parents and grandparents.
I respect that the commentariat here generally embodies a traditionalist stance. I’m just pointing out the reality that the 1950s in America was rather far from that ideal. America was already a very progressive country by the mid 20th century, and the presence of idyllic nuclear families like the one shown was more a function of an unusually favorable economic climate than any real cultural conservatism.
My point is that really traditional societies ought to be stable over a long period of time. The “leave it to beaver” society of the 50s clearly wasn’t: after all, it gave way to the 60s, didn’t it? People don’t seem to appreciate the extent to which leftist movements in the 60s had their roots in the previous decade.
TL:DR, if you wish for it to be the 50s again, don’t be surprised when the 60s rolls around again as well.

It really was like this beautiful picture – this is not propaganda or wishful thinking. This was my home, my family. No words can describe how much I miss it. The economy didn’t change and so we needed two incomes. When the women all went to work, they doubled the workforce which made wages stagnant. That WAS the change. Corporations, mostly Jewish, and the media got them going in that direction. The economy did changr. One main factor in it changing was the sheer size of the Baby Boom generation. Increase in goods and services = increase in costs and prices. Housing and cars are two prime examples of items that have greatly increased in price. But two incomes means not settling for a 900 square foot house and being able to afford better safety, gas mileage, and technology with your car.

It isn’t a case of what I’ve learned- I was just pointing out one of the instigating factors of the women’s rights movement. Case in point about two incomes. Parents bought a brand new 2 story colonial 4 br 3 ba home on a nice lot in a new subdivision for $27,000. Houses in that subdivision go for $220,000 now. My dad paid off the home just on his income. Other areas in the US have even higher appreciation. Think wages have kept pace?

My first house was $33,000. 2 bed 1 bath 600 sq feet and my monthly payment was $375 per month. And it was nice. I was thrilled. I had my first child with my wife there. We could have raised many children there happily and we would have if we had to choose between that and my wife going back to work. Priorities.

The idyllic nature of the picture is the wife being the homemaker, the husband being the breadwinner, and the kids and mom being happy to see their dad when he gets home from work. The size, cost, number of bedrooms, is irrelevant. Wages matching inflation is irrelevant. Income has not become inequal to the point that situation is unattainable for the vast majority of people.
