Had a busy day today. This morning, I took my elderly mother to the store.. What is a good gun for home defence? Keep in mind handguns are practically illegal up here, but long guns are relatively easy to get after you’ve gone through all the hoops. Normally we are limited to 10+1 magazine, semi-auto, but it would seem that due to a loophole, .22 rim fire models are allowed up to 25+1. Not sure how I’m going to defend the home or street with a .22, but interested to hear from those knowledgeable. I think we are permitted higher caliber but only 10+1.

To quote an SAS man from the Malaysian Intervention the 12 GA shotgun was the most dreadful weapon, it tore the flesh off of bones. Use the 00 or larger pellets. 00 is probably best. Get an M1A for longer ranges and the shotgun for close in. I understand the M1A is a popular rifle in Canada. Get about ten magazines or more for it. That rifle is .308 and is also a good hunting rifle. Try to get a shotgun that holds 5 or more shells. Not sure what is available in Canada that way. See what is available on Gunbroker.com to see what you like. I can access it in Germany so you should be able to do a market survey with it in Canada. Pump is ok and most reliable. Stock up on ammo. 1000 rounds for each is the bare minimum for a reserve. It is difficult to survive a 12 GA shotgun hit and it will disembowel a man as well as knock him over at ranges under 50 M.

CO, 30 06 is a fabulous long range round. I made that comment to a SF sniper recentlz who told me he was responsible for killing many of the Iraqi senior leaders in the card deck. He was a big proponent of .308 and said he liked both but used .308. I like both but 3006 has a lot of muzzle velocity and a flat trajectory. It tends to go through the target, even at long ranges. It is a good round out past 1000 meters. It is pricey now so .308 is most practical.

Recognize that in the US 5.56 nato is the rifle caliber of choice and that is what the police/military will be armed with, what their ammo depots will have, what the stations, cars, bodies will have on them. Probably 9mm as well, perhaps 40. A good 9mm carbine is an exceptional choice for such a scenario as it will hit a good bit harder than a pistol.
If things decay, life will be like Afghanistan or Beirut, which is to say life will pretty much go on as normal. There won’t be a zombie apocalypse nor will a “collapse” mean that everything goes to hell. That’s just not how it works. Many nations have collapsed in the past decade or two, study them for what matters.
Contrary to what idiots here believe, you will want to be in the city because that is where the political power lies. the countryside in various shitholes is very dangerous, lawless, frequently without power or water or basic services. The politicians/leaders who run things will want to prevent full scale revolution and placating as much of the population as possible makes cities that much more important. Commerce will be there as well and whatever food there is will be appropriated.

I have a theory. Libs want Trump to fail so badly (we know this) but they want him to fail for SPECIFIC REASONS. They don’t care if he fails because of increased unemployment, or because of stock market collapse, or because of a failed war or whatever logical (and plausible) possibility for failure there is. No, for them him failing in any of those matters little. They want him to fail in ONLY ONE WAY and that is by removing him for treason. For them anything that leaves him with the credibility of having won fair and square on that election night in 2016 is a blasphemy to their religion. They want him removed from history as a legitimate president because even if he fails, the fact that he ever became president (translate: the fact that Americans made him president) will be forever an insult to their religion. This is , paradoxically, what will be their demise should Trump choose to run for re-election. They have no opposing agenda on any of the issues. They just want to remove the blaspheme from their temple.
PS If Trump goes through his presidency and chooses not to run for re-election, then this will send them into a craze as well. They will have no way to remove him anymore so they have to accept that he did his 4 years intact. However I don’t think he will not run. He loves the country or at least is the closest a president has come to loving the country in recent history.
