I was a little surprised the first time my wife and I visited the Tyrol area of Italy. We stopped at a cafe and the chalkboard of the day’s specials where written in German instead of Italian. A waitress in a dirndl just like the girls in this photo, asked us in German what we wanted, despite the fact I look very Italian and we were in Italy. I was tempted to go ethnic on her and answer in Italian but then I went along with it and answered in German, because I was kind of bemused by the whole thing.
Stunning mountains in that area and the roads are fabulous for sports car driving. The people’s atitude is that they didn’t cross a border and leave Austria,the border simply crossed them after Austria lost WW1.

Going Italian would have been a mistake. You would have been pegged as a boorish American or Brit immediately, especially with a bad accent. They nearly all resent being administered by Italy. How can you have been so ignorant if you claim to speak both Italian and German? You should have learned about the region somewhere in all that language training. The people there are nice, polite, down to earth and not stuck up and clannish as Italians are. It would have been as offensive as being a New Yorker and imitating a Southern accent to bust on the locals in Alabama. Italy is chaos and South Tirol is a paradise of high culture, gastronomy, and scenery. Most Americans can’t appreciate it.

There had been rumours about Macron being a closeted homosexual even before he was elected. They are now confirmed for anyone with eyes to see. It’s especially obvious in the other pictures that were taken with the same two guys.
Macron’s ministers and parliamentarians are now circling the wagons and dismiss anyone finding fault with this sorry episode as racists. This rings very hollow and everybody can see through it. The damage is done. Macron won’t come back from it. It will have taken a bit more than a year for the carbonization of his presidency to complete itself.
It will now be either of two things: either the Lepen bugbear can be used one more time to scare people into voting for the next interchangeable candidate of the globalised establishment or someone is gonna be smart enough to use the empty shells that the defeated rightwing parties have become to conquer power as an outsider (US or Italian scenario). I hope it happens that way because really after falling into the abyss for so many years I have the feeling France has now hit bottom and the only way is up.
