I don’t know. I think there are a lot of factors involved that we don’t have a lot of visibility into.
– How corrupt are the rank and file doing the investigating as opposed to the leadership?
– How much can the leadership do to misrepresent whatever is or isn’t uncovered by the rank and file, knowing it will have to stand up to scrutiny from Trump and the DOJ (though not from the utterly corrupt media)?
– How much does the leadership fear further angering Trump at this point? Fire one guy like Comey and he can pretend he’s a martyr, but fire fifteen or twenty people and, well, there are only so many book deals to be had before the public gets bored.

We are reaping the seeds we sowed by tying domestic police powers to intelligence services. Before 9/11 there was a large wall between intel and FBI. We did this to protect citizen’s rights of illegal search and seizure. But we got scared of big bad Bin Laden – remember him?
