We have forgotten that looks and money, while important (within reason) aren’t everything. “Compatibility” and “a nice personality” may sound like consolation prizes, but they kept our grandparents warm at night.

Actually, “The Handmaid’s Tale” is supposed to be a worst-case scenario, not a sexual fantasy–sort of a female-specific version of “1984”. And come to think of it, most men in the series don’t fare so well either. Only the top honchos get laid; the rest can be executed for even trying. False rape charges are used to eliminate male dissidents (and they lose much more than their jobs). The whole thing looks like a satire on certain contemporary theocracies that get a little too much favorable publicity in the MSM.
